OMG Tards when you write down a system at least make sure the game even goes into the main menu..... not some machines that can't even start the half life-2 engine..... mine for example is so old it's practically ready for the museum (exept the video maybe). Athlon 64 3k+ normal 2 GHz/Runs on 2,5 GHz 1,5 Gigs DDR1 RAM, gForce 9600 gt [OC on 700 gpu/1000 vram] with 512 gddr3, hard drive is not interesting at all. I run crysis on win XP with all settings on HIGH on 1680x1050 with 30-35 FPS..... :)

I have the same setup, but with an Athlon XP 2000+. I noticed the 2600 Pro can handle shadows pretty well, so it might be worth setting your shadows to Medium. Setting water to High doesn't seem to hurt performance either, and if you're not streaming textures, you have plenty of VRAM for High texture settings. The CPU bottleneck actually becomes less apparent with higher graphics settings.

sorry mate... I just bought me new killer rig to future proof meself and me pc eh? Well wanna know my "average frame/second?" I use fraps and its around 42-45 in Vista 64 and and in XP 32 its 54-57 I with vertical sync turned on in each OS. Note this is all very high with no AA. I dont want to raise AA16XQ cause its good enough withouht AA.

One could go ahead and build a 3000$ computer, and within a year and a half or maybe less it'll be too dated to even run the next gen game... I think the reason is because LCD monitors! They rape the life of your pc because you're stuck at the same resolution no matter what inless you want the game to look shitty! If you have a good old CRT monitor to me 1024x768 would be all you really need, and 800x600 is acceptable!

The old way computers use to last for years on newer and newer games was lowering resolutions first, then settings. Could last so long doing that... Ever hear of the people that play Doom 3 on an old 3dfx Voodoo2 card in SLI (SLI ment scan line interweave back then). That card was so old! Yet it played it on a machine from back from that time too! All settings to minimum--but you know what? It had like 50FPS in best conditions.
