Ours is from hadhi-dog-trike.de, but there are many copies and alternatives on the market. When considering a buy you should look at both the build quality and the weight of the vehicle, lightweight stability comes at a price :-) And you need reliable breaks. No matter how well trained the dogs are, you need BREAKS.
Part of your question already holds the answer: "Train" them :-) Take care not to let them run at full speed right from the start (speed exhausts a dog a lot, the greatest "danger" in hobby dog triking/biking is to let the dog run too fast for too long). A "tacho" is a good friend: Check your dog's max speed once (freerunning next to your bike e.g.) and keep her at half that speed (2/3 for some dogs) whenpulling, only allowing her a higher pace when coming home ("homerun").
@HerrSchobert We LOVE the way you balance, so the dogs neck and back are protected, both by the way the reins are not coming down from the top of the trike, but are pretty level and the bungy to absorb shock. BUT, did you/do you find you need foot protection, like "Rough Wear" or other boot?
We do use foot protection in the winter when the snow is harsh and the ice might be cutting the dog's feet (in fact we use up quite a lot of "booties", so I tailor them myself). As for the rest of the year it is a question of customization just like horses that don't need shoing if they are well trained on proper grounds. We do not do 100 miles a day, only quite short distances AND in the videos you see an "awfull" lot of bad ground, usually we're on softer, more "grassy" ways.
We are using "Faster" harnesses (in Germany you can get them from Uwe Radant, please have a search engine look). In fact I think that the harnesses don't play a big role, as long as the dogs are feeling fine with them (mine do) and no (what so small) harm is done to them. We tried X-Back harnesses (because some "professional" said that everything else was evil), but my dogs didn't "like" them. That's not to be generalized, of course :)
@JustSmokeDank No, HerrSchobert & MrsPeel are brother and sister, her mother was a berger des pyrenees (a French herding dog breed), her father(s) unknown :-)
Thanks for this video! Nice work with the dogs. My dog will start pulling lightweight sleds and kicksled with me on it in the coming winter, i wonder how it will turn out haha...
It looks much best than jogging with dog because human's run longer and continue. Look like I want to do that with my dogs but worry cruem law in america.
@CKmashup: Have a look at the end of the video :-)
Today there are many ways to get a (dog-) trike. Mine is from hadhi-dog-trike.eu - beware, there ARE differences in terms of quality, reliability and stability when comparing various manufacturers of dog-trikes!
Heehee, this is such a nice video

how do you keep your dogs from going full speed all the time? I know the command for going slower, but how do you train them to go slower?

What kind of harness is that? I use xback harnesses and I like the look of those.
