question. when doing the wheelie we must slow down to end the wheelie right.. so when the front tire hits the gravel of course it will hit hard. so will it damage the bike from doing that??
@acat46 A good wheelie landing you should still be on the throttle so it touches down lightly, if you chop the throttle it will come down like a ton of bricks, I've never heard of anyone doing real damage from coming down hard off a wheelie but you sure don't look cool doing it.
@dinosoreis1 i see.. so like easing on the throttle and it gently touched the ground.. thanks for the advise. coz' i'm quite afraid i might damage my new bike (going to buy one soon).
MCN makes their videos to learn the bikers to ride more safety. The wheelies are not safety but the bikers do them in their own ways and that's more danger. If they watch that video and learn how exactly to do this, they will not do crashesh because of their incompetence.I'm bulgarian and I sorry for my bad english ;))
im 19, just done ma mod1 biketest, about to do ma mod2 and il be ready to ride about haha, bought ma sen a cbr600 cant wait to start wheelie practice lmao
I am learning to power wheelie but my issue is keeping it up in first gear. After I get the bike up at around 5k at 35mph I start to run out of RPMs and I'm going about 55mph and I dont want to redline doing a wheelie. am I missing something?
I have gsxr 1000 and it does that same small lift if I use half or quartet throttle to half rpm's and then pull it quickly and pull the bike up with my hands.
Maybe it's that I can't do British-speak instead of real English (j/k), but I didn't really get any instruction for HOW to do this. Something about using the clutch, but made no sense to me. I'm on a 1000cc bike and one comment was that this will be harder to do. I just gun it with no clutch at all. Someone translate to "plain" English? ;-)
@jjbearsf (Trying to repeat what this video told me): Start in first gear, and accelerate hard. Once your mid-way through your RPMs your going to slightly flick the clutch.
@jjbearsf simple go about ten let off the gas pull the clutch and rev the motor to about 4k and pop the clutch. its one movment. just practice getting it off a little at a time
I have a 954RR and to be quite honest it worries me a bit. The power around 6 or 7k rpm is enough to pull it up in 2nd gear even when I'm just passing someone. I still get a little antsy b/c the bike seems like it wants to wheelie all the time and I still haven't done a wheelie on purpose...
My first ever Wheelie was on my First ever Bike ( Well Scooter )
Was a Yamaha CW50 was at the lights on a incline. Pulled away and being tall sitting far back on the seat as I pulled away a did a little wheelie up the incline. Scared the Crap out of me as I was not intending to do it :) Was kinda funny though.
@TOASTRIDER1 I like the Indian brother, he was the coolest intro.
I have minor lifted my 955i Sprint but I always had the ER-6 -- 650R's nose in the air with the snap throttle technique and wind it through first never fucked up or worried a bit, sometimes I would hit it right off the line.... but I am not about to try that shit on the 955i. I do not possess that skillset.
So do you pull clutch in, rev the rpm up, then let go of the clutch or do you throttle up then pull clutch in and let go? I find the first way to be more comfortable in first gear. But I can't old it it either way. I'm on a r6
Poppin it up time after time will give u confidence.every chance u get pick it up,before u know it,it will feel natural.thats what i did and it worked fine!took me 2 weeks.
these dudes are fucking gay wheelies are not exactly simple for a good controlled one but fuck sake i bet these bellends all drive around at the speed limit anyway
got a 600rr for my first bike, started doin wheelies the next day. if you have natural talent, just start doing it and it will come to you. if you dont have talent, keep the front end down and enjoy the ride, my insurance is high enough as it is. thanks :)
Great video! Most videos I see on here that describe clutching it up are demonstrated on 600's (give or take). This is one of few I've seen on a 1000cc which show step by step. I too, like the instructor in this particular video ride an R1 ('08) and I can "power" it up fine in 1st but as the vid says, going a bit fast to begin with! I want to clutch em up!!! Anyone out there know: What gear is he clutching it up in, 1st or 2nd? And what RPM in that gear (on average) do you "slip it" up to on a
@sprs747 Well i think that's kindof a misnomer. Going to trackdays (i.e. racing your bike) will cause excessive wear on most of your bike.
granted there should be a light disclaimer in general of the added cost of pushing your motorcycle to its full potential, but if you are going to track days, you most likely will be investing close to 800 dollars in protective gear, and more for tires.
@sprs747 Doing wheelies can put alot of strain on the chain. As the bike lands, the chain in a way tightens/stretches. This gives the potential for it to actually snap! If this happens it will be taken into the inside of the bike and whip it, causing incredible damage to things like an aluminium frame or just generally the engine. Other things can happen such as the the teeth of the cram shaft ( drive shaft??) can twist!! this happens when popping the clutch.
@sprs747 My Dad told me this the other day, he's been riding since the 70's so i trust him! Although he says this only generally happens when your pratically doing these stunts excessivly!! All those faults/problems i've mentioned have all happened to his biker buddies unfourtunatly! Hope the info helped
@JazzFiveO the key is too experiment, when to slip the clutch depends on the motorcycle, but when you start learning, slip the clutch before the power band, that way your not caught off guard. Start small, and not only will you learn things along the way, you will do it as safely as possible!
I would like to see some of these stunts done on a cruiser. Doing tight corners and wheelies on crotch rockets are one thing, but it seems that doing something like that on a cruiser must be something totally different. I do, however, really admire the skill demo'd in these videos. Awesome.
im not really sure i understood what he was doing at 3:10, he said hit it on first gear and when ure half way through the revs press the clutch a little bit and the front wheel should go up? cuz that doesnt really make any sense, and im not saying it as to criticize but as to try to do it myself
@dansulo1 when you disengage the clutch a little bit you take a lot of load off the engine so the engine speed increases, so when you re-engage the clutch, you're engaging at a higher rpm and the front wheel lifts. The reason you do it only about midway through the revs is so the engine speed has room to shoot up when you pull the clutch.
I remember another time, I must have been about 13, I asked a guy on a motorbike who was at the stop sign, at the moment I walked past, to pop a wheelie because I'd heard he was good at riding, he ended up doing a 100m wheelie, one handed, up the main street. It was like all the times when you were a kid and have either signalled for a truck to honk the horn, or the man to do a burnout or do a wheelie, was fully fulfilled and I was finally satisfied.
@Ryknfjor If you are talking about the bike that is white but driven by one off the learner guys then yes you are right i think thats a honda, but if its the other white bike at 3:10 in the video then thats an r1 and it would be a later model probably 2006 onwards.
I hope its easier than on a pushbike, I could always get the wheel up initialling when I was a kid, but the thrust from that point to keep it up and to stay balanced whilst pedalling was hard. Maybe I can do it now on the pushbike as I'm alot bigger and can man-handle the bike now. The power application is surely smoother on a 4 compared to 2 massive spikes in torque from pedal power.
I remember there were 2 kids out of 1000 at school that could ride ALL the way home on the back wheel.
@whatzupa lol. when ever i tried to do a power wheelie with lunging my self back and pressing real hard on the pedals, the chain would just slip of the sprocket!! cheap-ass bicycle...
Hi, not much of a biker person im 16 and have got a derbi senda 125 registred as a 50 is it possible to wheelie on this thing? Im hoping this will help me be a pussy magnet lol
@Naturepheonix the grey one is a suzuki sv650sf, idk what year tho.. the one with white race plastics looks like an older suzuki gsxr 600/750 could be in the years between 2000 - 2005
i can wheelie my mountain bike really really well, but i cant wheelie on dirt bikes very well at all yet, that could be because there 2 stroke so there's not much torque so its harder..
Ah man, you spattered that dudes bike with rubber at the end. haha Good vid guys, I'll put this to the test. Much love from your American friend. Peace
@andrica031 no wheeling with the clutch is nessecary as not all bikes have the raw torque in the bottom end to lift the front wheel the whole idea is to jam high power straight away to make the front light, by moving the whole frame.
i had a ninja 250. about the same hp (prob a bit less). it is definately possible. try different body positions ( it is natural to put your weight forward when you feel the front get light, try fighting that urge becasue leaning forward will not let you get it up.)
you'll need to use the clutch with your bike. (i stilll do with my triumph 955i)
- and of course only do this while you are in complete control of your surroundings (scrace parking lot) cover your rear brake
once youve squeezed the clutch and your bike is up, and u pul the throttle to go faster during the wheelie do u let go of the clutch or do u hold it while youre doing the wheelie
Hey, just wanted to let you know I liked this video and added it to my new website (howtowheelie.info) where I have posted instructions, pictures, and videos, I have collected from around the web, on how to ride a wheelie.
I posted your video on this page:
/video-guide-to-wheelies-by-mcn/
...and gave you credit for contributing. Thanks again for sharing with us and others. Well done:)
i think its great mcn is doing videos like this, but i definitely the video is incomplete, i believe you guys need to explain what someone needs to do if something goes not how planned, they need to be prepared, they need to do some metallization of what could go wrong and what they have to do to be prepared to react immediately in case.
definitely this video is not safe if you encourage riders to try this if your not covering safety,
Who the hell uses 1st gear? lol On a liter bike 1st gear is to aggressive to try clutching it. I use 2 and 3 depending on what I want to do.Power wheelies build way to much speed If your a noob. Say Im on the freeway and want to pull a stand up for miles.I use 3rd.On my R1 in 3rd @ 7k its gonna come up. 8k if you have a full tank. 2nd gear stand ups work but you have to slow down to match your rpms.On the freeway @ 70 3rd gear works for me.
Yeah classic, he didnt even mension the Back Break coverage at all times doing wheelies, I'm just learning and I've been practising on my ktm 950. The other day if it wasnt for covering my back break I would have flipped it big style.

@ARC21001 thnx for the comment man.
So after all is better NOT to do wheelies.
i think should worth to be mentioned in this MCN's guide to wheelies...that wheelies can cause damage to your bike.
sprs747 10 months ago
@sprs747 Well i think that's kindof a misnomer. Going to trackdays (i.e. racing your bike) will cause excessive wear on most of your bike.

I remember there were 2 kids out of 1000 at school that could ride ALL the way home on the back wheel.
whatzupa 1 year ago
@whatzupa lol. when ever i tried to do a power wheelie with lunging my self back and pressing real hard on the pedals, the chain would just slip of the sprocket!! cheap-ass bicycle...

What brand and model is the white and Street bike style Grey one?
Naturepheonix 1 year ago
@Naturepheonix the grey one is a suzuki sv650sf, idk what year tho.. the one with white race plastics looks like an older suzuki gsxr 600/750 could be in the years between 2000 - 2005

Wanna teach me how to wheely an 8hp 125 with an engine based on a 1980's honda? :]
paulwisdom2008 1 year ago
i can wheelie my mountain bike really really well, but i cant wheelie on dirt bikes very well at all yet, that could be because there 2 stroke so there's not much torque so its harder..
kyleknudsen 1 year ago
@kyleknudsen yeah, i only try to do wheelies on my rx 50, and i have to be on the tip of the seat and rev it hard in 1st gear :P

@ andrica031 not all bike have the raw power needed to get front end up with just accelaration, thats why you need to use the clutch
alexanderd42 1 year ago
its stupiddd to make a whelly whit your clitch(ambreaj)you ill fall for sure....whelly's are ment to be made by acceleration
andrica031 1 year ago
@andrica031 no wheeling with the clutch is nessecary as not all bikes have the raw torque in the bottom end to lift the front wheel the whole idea is to jam high power straight away to make the front light, by moving the whole frame.

i whant to do wheelies like this
i got a Yamaha 12E with 400 ccm
and 27 hp i know it´s not powerfull like the bikes here
but is it with my bike possibel ?
germanhector1 1 year ago
@germanhector1 you can wheelie anything, with abit of practice
im 16 and i learnt how to wheelie when i was about 10 on my mountain bike, now i can wheelie just about anything, practice makes perfect :D
01285ant 1 year ago
i had a ninja 250. about the same hp (prob a bit less). it is definately possible. try different body positions ( it is natural to put your weight forward when you feel the front get light, try fighting that urge becasue leaning forward will not let you get it up.)
you'll need to use the clutch with your bike. (i stilll do with my triumph 955i)
- and of course only do this while you are in complete control of your surroundings (scrace parking lot) cover your rear brake
julingy 1 year ago
So if you can't wheelie on a bicycle, you can't wheelie on a motorcycle? OK, got it.
RepublicanDumbAss 1 year ago
omg its the end of my first season and i just learned to do some sick wheelies! its so fun i cant stop smiling XDXDXD
danthemanzizzle 1 year ago
once youve squeezed the clutch and your bike is up, and u pul the throttle to go faster during the wheelie do u let go of the clutch or do u hold it while youre doing the wheelie
JAYSTAARR 1 year ago
@JAYSTAARR course you let go, you cant accelerate with the clutch on

Hey, just wanted to let you know I liked this video and added it to my new website (howtowheelie.info) where I have posted instructions, pictures, and videos, I have collected from around the web, on how to ride a wheelie.
I posted your video on this page:
/video-guide-to-wheelies-by-mcn/
...and gave you credit for contributing. Thanks again for sharing with us and others. Well done:)
rjvalli 1 year ago
how bout a 250 then? same principle?
albyhellscream 1 year ago
@albyhellscream 250s will need a lot more convincing to get the front wheel up. They simply lack the torque that larger bikes produce.
Heaton08 1 year ago
@albyhellscream hell no u gotta be at a stand still then crack that bitch wide open just to get it in the air

flipmode00 1 year ago
i think its great mcn is doing videos like this, but i definitely the video is incomplete, i believe you guys need to explain what someone needs to do if something goes not how planned, they need to be prepared, they need to do some metallization of what could go wrong and what they have to do to be prepared to react immediately in case.
definitely this video is not safe if you encourage riders to try this if your not covering safety,
