  • This is one way to pay off debt I suppose. Or you could have had a yard sale and sold all the stuff taking up space and MONEY for a storage unit, sold the truck and got a beater car (preferably one of those creepy no window except for the windshield vans and lived on the beach) or a bus pass, paid of the $11,000.00........and been debt free.

  • With THAT Degree, you will be in that truck a LONG TIME!! ( hah)!!

  • Aside from not being visible in the back, one thing that probably helps him is owning a vehicle that's in very good shape. Old and beat-up vehicles pretty much scream "homeless" to people and are cop magnets.

  • What surprises me is that the cops aren't hassling him every night, several times a night. Maybe because he is in the back, they don't see him? When I pulled into LA in an old BMW, I got hassled 3 times in as many hours, trying to sleep in the car so as not to wake my friends at 3 am. Can't imagine trying to get a full night's sleep with that kind of harassment. (Each of the cops insisted that I cannot sleep in the car and had to move.)

  • It's a FABULOUS lifestyle Karl.... It all depends on ur outlook on life and how you want to live it. Life's needs to be an adventure. Do it.

  • I thought of this when I lived in LA I worked all the time as a trucker well that didn't pay so much had a wife that barely worked so I had to carry her all those years then it happened I was injured I was put on the streets in about a month my ankle would not heal. I later found out I had gaut I had a long hard time trying to heal I finally got to work trucking cross country we truckers do this all the time shower in the truckstops and sleep in the truck. I want to see a prius camper. Ron Paul

  • @cdltpx what happened to your marriage? and what do you do now for a living?

  • @truthisinthebible I was injured by a tornado in 99 I had surgery went back to work for 10 years and finally applied for disability. So I am remarried etc. Disability doesn't pay much I have eveything paid for home car etc this saves tons of money. I tell anyone out there get a piece of land as innexpensively as you can get. If the neighborhood is bad build a concrete dome home if you can. If U R totally broke buy at auction even if it is N A area that is recessed it will rebound.

  • That life style is fine for a year or two when you are young. It sure beats inccuring more debt, when I had to live like that it was below zero temps so you are lucky. I wouldn't feel sorry for you nor jealous. I know you'll have a place soon enough and nothing feel as good as accomplising thing on your own. For those that thinks it is a glorious lifestyle "get real" we would all be doing it if it was.

  • Can you (DO YOU) park on campus and sleep?

I've actually LIVED in one of my school buildings for a month.

Unused classrooms, sleeping bag, next building had a shower and my car was parked on campus. I was STILL late for class a few times (go figure).

Storage: Small ones you barely access cost a LOT LESS than that walk in closet. Pack and use efficiently then visit the storage 2x a month.

Cook on campus. You KNOW where!

You can live HOBO for a while but it will drag on you quickly.

  • @MrPavePaws

    Chem lab?

  • @deezynar CHILD LABOR ENCAMPMENTS.

  • @deezynar Oh, I thought you were asking how I amassed my large fortune.

Cooking on campus: FACULTY LOUNGE! Act like you own the place and no professor will question you.

In HS, they could tell you're a student. In college, they don't dare ask.

I paid $3 per meal at the cafe (faculty rate) instead of $7 bec they asked STUDENT OR FACULTY?

If they're dumb enough to ask, they're dumb enough to accept the answer.

    I'm not shy - I don't act like a student.

  • @MrPavePaws

That's much better than cooking on a bunsen burner. You're the man!

  • well 2 spots to camp are walmart and flying j they both not only allow you to do so they encourage it. walmart figures you will come in and buy things. and flying j is a truck/rv stop allowing overnight camping. this will keep the cops from bothering you. but i agree with so many losing there homes many people are turning to rvs. i even got one as a backup a truck camper style witch btw are the most multirole campers you can get.

  • If I wasn't married I would live like this.

  • a rich half homeless....

  • What happens when his truck breaks down and needs to go in for service?? Where does he stay then? Where does he park to sleep? In my area you get arrested for sleeping in your vehicle.

  • @hypnos315 he has an advantage because that truck doesn't look like a camper, most cops would just drive right by. Also, he does have a job so he's probably saving up some money so if there's an emergency he can simply pay to get it repaired. Smart guy that is! I wish I could do this!

  • @EasternMerchant Yup, unfortunately if you aren't retired, wealthy and driving an expensive RV the cops treat you like homeless trash. I live in my self made Class B RV (standard van size). I have a full time job which requires I stay clean and presentable. I always have some cash on me and my ID as well as my up to date vehicle insurance, park within the local laws and yet I'm still treated like garbage by cops. Wonderful world we live in.

  • @delindsay90210 Geez! just a normal looking van and it still gets detected on their Gaydar? That's ridiculous!

  • @EasternMerchant It's what our society has become. If you aren't "part of the system" you're the enemy. They want you paying rent/mortgage (preferably mortgage so you're in debt), utilities (from coal burning plants), trash pickup (destined for massive poison filled dumps), sewer (because poo is gross amiright), and having massive credit card debt from all the meaningless crap you buy just because your old thing isn't cool anymore... I'll take some harassment to be out of that system.

  • @hypnos315 It won't break down it's a toyota. I know people that get a million miles out of their toyotas. You can park anywhere you want as long as there's not a no parking, tow zone or fire lane sign. You won't get arrested for sleeping in your car. The worst that happens is they tell you to leave that city. All the cops i've ever spoken with said it is legal to sleep on the side of the road for one day in one location. You only get arrested for multiple days of loitering in the same spot.

  • @answertotodayis1776 I had LA PD telling me I wasn't allowed to sleep in my car. I could SIT there conscious, but not sleep. THREE times in one night they told me that.

  • @Gyrkin59 Why didn't you just move then after the encounter? Especially in LA, that is one of the most subdivided areas of the country, multiple municipalities and jurisdictions every few miles or so. I've seen videos of the LA area where there is a whole street of nothing but RV's, vans, campers etc. parked alongside the road. I think it was in Long Beach but i can't remember now. My friend fell on hard times and had to live in his van for over a year, never had an encounter with cop

  • @answertotodayis1776 Uhm, I did. Three times in 3 hours. You're mistaken about it being split up though. LAPD is vast, covers many miles.

I think what you missed is that your friend was in a van, while I was in a car and so I was visible in the front seat. I'd also know now to find a Walmart, no matter how annoyingly well lit it may be.

  • @Gyrkin59 I didn't know you moved since you didn't say so in your first message. I thought you meant you had 3 different sets of cops bother you in the same area. What i meant is if i got bugged by LAPD, i wouldn't stay in their jurisdiction. I would have moved to a different area outside their patrol area. Sounds like your problem revolved around initially being spotted in the front seat. It's way harder to live in a car. If you have a van it's easier to stay out of sight out of mind.

  • @hypnos315 I don't know, it is a very late model and a Toyota. You need to beat a Tyota down pretty hard to be down long. If it were me, I would probably want to sell it and use the $ for a Vanagon or a Mini RV. From a stealth stand point, the truck with shell is great... but I think it would get wearing not having a little elbow space, a decent bed, and a little kitchen area.

  • @djkenny Personally i think those work vans, like the ones you see plumbers and carpet cleaners driving are the best overall. Here is why i think that. You can get them with no or very few windows for privacy and security. You can get custom built security cages for them to separate the drivers area from the back and to go over the windows. They are IMO the most stealthy of any vehicle because they are hard to see in and they fit in parked awhile. Parts are cheaper and easier to find.

  • @answertotodayis1776 I have seen people insulate them and add cabinets and a bed, even a Coleman stove. Totally doable and I agree.

  • @djkenny Yep there are actually some good videos on here of people with nice van set ups living in them long term.

  • God keep you safe. It is a shame you could

not have a fund raiser , like politicians!!

  • i am 16 and i want to already

  • hey bro! I've been livin in my truck for 6 months now too. its great. i dont know why more people dont these days. i have a few other friends here in colorado who do. good luck!
