The Shadows version of Apache was difinitively better, and I am making the comparisson single 4 single, not based on the debacle on this video. Don't get me wrong, the Ventures did some excellent records "Walk don't run", "Perfidia" etc but compared to the consumate skill of the Shads! they were second best. The reason they didn't succeed in the States I can only put down to prejudice against non- american music makers pre- beatles. The shadows were going before the ventures anyway.

Love the Ventures and the Shadows. Complainers have to realize what you have here is:

Some of the Ventures playing a casual gig at a club Recorded non- professionally

A low quality camera picking up the sound unbalanced from the rythem guitar side of the stage.

Not mixed down in a studio or played on a big stage with an elaborate sound setup and crew.

Judging the Ventures by this performance is a cheap shot..shame on you..

I do find it curious how zealous Shadows fans seem to be in putting down the Ventures, because while the Ventures may have sold more records, the Shadows are more well remembered in their own country than the Ventures are in the USA.

The sound/arrangement of this version of Apache is taken from the danish guitarist Jorgen Ingmann, who had a huge hit with his version. It was quite different from the Shadows, I like both arrangements

I have just visited The Shadows website and listened to them playing Ventures tunes, Walk Dont Run and Perfidia.

They do play these tunes better than the Ventures as well. This Apache version should be taken off as it is an embarrassment!

I like the Shadows as well, but why take cheap shots on legends? Look at Japan '60's recordings of the Ventures live, and then you will know what they are about. His stuff with Cliff Richard is great too. I grew up with the Ventures, and always thought (in their day-not so much now), they were really good. Thru YouTube, I'm just now learning about so many great British artists, that I never heard played on the radio when I was a kid in the 60's. How this music was kept off our radio's is beyond me.
