First absurd thing that came to my mind, but PJ got rid of Iarwain, and exchanged a high elf-lord reborn with a half-elven. Sure her tale is one of sorrow, but it really didn't come into the theatrical release. Arwen Undomiel, the Evenstar vs. Glorfindel who fought the Balrog of Morgorth? Oh well. You're not in hollywood, why do it like them?

To give a bit of history, I read The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit first when I was ten years of of age, as translations. (I remember a winter morning when I was at the Falls of Rauros). I read them in English when I was around 15. I've read them a lot since then, always in English. I wish the Hobbit movies will not exchange Beorn for Galadriel.

I was a bit sceptical about Bombur, who is one the most important characters really, but now that I had a glimpse of him, I don't doubt that it's going to be ok. There wasn't much about Balin, but the growing friendship between him and Bilbo will play a role in the film, as is right.

So Saruman as the head of the White Council will be in the film(s). I'm not really enthusiastic about including the whole history of the Third Age of middle-Earth to

the film.

@BeckhamBobi Hmm.... We'll at the time this movie takes place, Aragorn would just be a kid living with Elrond (possible cameo?). Gimli wouldn't have been born yet, but his father features as one of the main characters in it. In case you were wondering about Legoloas aswell, a cameo is too possible for a certain scene.
