  • The interviewer said Lestat's name right! Yes! xD

  • I agree, I think Lestat would enjoy this. I've read and almost memorized the 2nd and 3rd books in the Chronicles. Lestat wants love from Humans, and the best way so many strangers show their love and appreciation is thunderous appluse.

  • i respect the effort but doesn't seem dark enough...claudia doesn't seem as vicious, and lestat not arrogant enough...hey, they tried

  • It lost its hard edge.

  • The music was entirely too upbeat. Total mistake in composer and lyricist (though I love Elton and Bernie's music) and also Lestat comes off as up beat and happy not condescending and venomous. This is why he is so beloved. If they would have made it a more cerebral and tantalizing, that would have saved it. They made it too Broadway.

  • Lestat would totally love this. :P

  • in the movie lestat wass handsome here the opisite.

  • Karina Huber is friggin sexy

  • Love musicals, huge fan of the books and movie...NOT feeling this at all. Sorry!

  • rofl. To all the people who are asking, "What would Lestat think about this?" He'd love it, obviously. It'd make his big head even bigger.

  • Oh...no. no. no....

  • Oh my goodness. No wonder why the musical failed.

If Anne Rice only had hired Stephen Sondheim, or Frank Wildhorn...anyone but Elton John...it probably would've been more sucessful. The musical style of these songs don't really match the feel of the books.

and acting is Lestat's favorite hobby too, lol

  • She didn't hir ethem on. Like they said, she gave Elton John permission without really thinking it was going anywhere. He approached her about it. I still love the show though.

  • In my opinion, Lestat is suppose to be more than a little ridiculous. He's not your typical brooding vampire (Hey there Louis!)...well at least for the first three books, which I think are a masterpiece until Anne started butchering her own characters later on. Tom Cruise brought on the ridiculous, almost bi-polar Lestat and he was brilliant, and Panaro did a pretty good job too. I think the problem with the musical is that the tunes just aren't fun :(

  • Most of the comments on this page are full of bull poop! Come on, guys, if you knew Lestat at all you'd know he would be dying to get into the spotlight, to sing, to dance, wahtever, but to make himself known in some way as to suggest what kind of a great person he really is. Anne Rice is an angel for writing these books, and I'm glad I'm not the many of her fans who act like babies every time something good happens for her books. HAVE A HEART!

  • I USED to love the Chronicles, ...until this shit happened

Now it's just embarrassing to admit I ever liked them.

  • If thats how Anne rice wanted her greatest character dipicted then GOD DAMN HER!

  • This is awful. If a Lestat musical was ever made it should have been dark and disturbing and reflected the arduous life of a damned predator...

...not whatever the hell this is.

  • This is awful. If a Lestat musical was ever made it should have been dark and disturbing and reflected the arduous life of a damned predator...

...not whatever the hell this is.

  • lol

i love his books, but i must say..she has the hardest time casting for roles (*cough cough* Tom Cruise) and her books are to well done to compare to...this...

I mean...how many vampire do you know that sing??? I mean...OTHER than Lestat in QotD

  • Well, when people sing in a musical, it's not them singing in real life. The music is suppose to express the characters emotions and thoughts.

I love this musical and am sad it didn't work.

  • I know...but i expected so much more from the musical

  • True. I got used to the story line just cause I knew in my mind how to fill in the gaps and have it make sense. But I will say, if I was a newbie to Anne Rice and had seen the musical before I read the books, I would have thought that they had crammed too much into 2 1/2 hours. All in all though, it will still always hold a special place in my heart.

  • im sorry but from what i see the musical is too...preppy! the story is not that way @ all

  • I love Lestat!! and i love Anne Rice!!! buit the idea of a musical??!!! i dont know what was she thinking??!!!! why!!! im so glad i read the books first!! cuz things like this .. wolud make me hate them!!

Lestat its supposed to be the bad boy, dark, sexy... not this... not common...

  • I love Anne Rice, but a musical seems to.....mmmmmmmm.........a bit ridiculous. When I think of lestat I think of Danny Elfman, not frigin Elton John......but that's just my opinion, not very important huh?

  • actually I agree with you...I think Danny Elfman too...I bet the musical would have been better if it were a bit more darker...when I see this I dn't see Vampires..I see a bunch of crackers singing about how they are damned

  • You know, I love Anne Rice to bits, but when it comes to the Vampire Chronicles...eh...I think they should have been kept as books rather than anything else. I mean IwtV was okay but the cast was terrible, QotD was nothing like the book, and the musical looks rediculous. I would have expected the music to be a bit more metalic than that.

At least Parino's the closest to Lestat that I've seen so far.

  • What! I think Interview with the Vampire was excellent! Brad Pitt did an amazing job and even Anne Rice said so herself.

  • Eh...sorry, but I thought the scene where he burned his own house was laughable and Tom Cruise, as good as he was, looked rediculous as a Victorian vampire what with that big hair and all. I liked Dunst's performance though, and I don't even like Kirsten Dunst.

  • Okay! That's your opinion. But it is the best vampire movie ever!

  • I love the woman dearly but...ummm...when is the video game going to be released?

  • please, anybody put a bullet in my skull, i can't take this, the only thing that i have to say is "WHY?, wHY?"

  • why? why? why?

Im such a big anne rice's fan! but since queen of the damned her writing has become so poor and plastic and fake and common.

And why did she give her aproval to THIS?! and why Elton John?!

I can imagine what the real Lestat would say about this....!

  • Lestat did Sing, not Opera, but he did sing. he sang as the rockstar in Queen of The Dammned. he was an actor, he was Lelio, with the truppe of singer and played violin, only slightly, not very much, that was Nicolas...

  • I hope they release the CD soon I really love the music. ^_^

  • I know! It's driving me insane!

  • Claudia's "I Want More" song is just so...hokey.

  • I do hope this show is released for people to perform.

  • I was just thinking the same thing. Do you know where I could find out about when it's released?

  • This show still has so much potential I just think the actors behind it were poorly chosen, and I wonder how much the director really comprehended the show. Hugh Panaro did not make a good Lestat at all, which is unfortunate because he has a beautiful voice. I think if the right people got the rights to this it could be amazing.

  • *flogs*

  • Well, they said that it wouldn't come out presently. So that means it may come out...I have no idea. Apprently their was a prerelease of limited copy of it in the UK but not in the US. Which pretty much sucks since their is no other copies. (This is after googling when it would be released five million times.)

  • Why am I being flogged?

  • LOL... I told my friend what you said about Hugh Panaro, and she said that you should be flogged - she really likes Hugh. XD

  • Oh don't get me wrong I like him too, he has a wonderful voice. I just don't feel he was right for that part. The song he did were beautiful I just don't feel his acting was up to par, I didn't get a strong sense of Lestat from him. At times I even felt it was more like a mockery of Lestat. The character would be quite difficult to pull off, and even more impossible to pull off in a way that pleased everyone.

  • I agree. Many of the people who play Lestat only seem to get a piece of him, but then again, even for a character in a book he is quite complex! Personally even though i dont like Tom Cruz i think he did the best job on Lestat i've ever seen.

  • I agree. I mean let's face it, Queen of the Damned was a bloody disaster. I was disgusted with the blatant disregard for Anne Rice's work. It's as though they didn't even pick up the books. Stuart Townsend, as hot as he is, just didn't have it right, he was pure arrogance. He might turn you on but you don't love him the same way as you do in reading the books.

  • Actually, Lestat's SUPPOSED to be arrogant. But you're right: NO ONE on the face of this earth could hold a candle to the magic of the book.

  • Well no kidding he's supposed to be arrogant but not pure arrogance. While it is a large part of his outward appearance, only showing arrogance is an incredibly weak way of portraying the character.

  • I agree. He didn't capture the Brat Prince in the right way. And yes, the movie was beyond what words could say. I could go on for fifty years or more about that piece of shit. What I'm hoping for is Tale of the body Thief. That, by far, is my favorite of the group. It would really be interesting to see someone pull that off - especially with the whole David/Lestat attraction

  • Contrary to replies below, Lestat did NOT sing opera .. not once. If you're unsure, feel free to read the books again. He was an actor in the comedy tours before being made a vampire, and shocked crowds with his violin playing, but he never once sang. His singing opera isn't outlandish however, since it's pointed out several times that there's nothing he didn't excel in ... it simply was a matter of interest at that point.

  • I love Anne Rice, her novels just do it for me! I have followed her published works for a very long time now, I really do adore her. However, a musical? I'm not convinced, all I'll say is, I'm not surprised that it did'nt last very bloody long!

  • LOL yeah I agree, Elton John, jaunty country tunes? I might get a dvd of this for the pure cheese though

  • I lve her, she made me belive in myself from her books.i want to be in a play written by Ann Rice

  • i can't say i hate this because i have never seen the play and i'm huge fan of anne rice and the character lestat but i also like opera too, i think it would be interesting to see this play

  • Well I love Anne Rice's books and the guy that plays Lestat in the Broadway film does make a good Lestat but I'm sorry to tell you that the Lestat of the books would sneer at this. Vampires don't sing, it's just way too weird!

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE Anne Rice but I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show too. You just have to take it as something different. Yes, it is kind of weird that vampires would sing but you really have to hear what they are singing about. Anyways, my 2 cents.

  • Are you serious? Lestat of the books sang in the second book.

  • What I meant was Lestat singing opera is odd.

  • Lestat was an actor early on in his life and became a rockstar a few years ago..

  • But he never sang "opera"

  • actually i think he did... it's been a while since i read it but in Armand's book, it was said that he did sing in the Theatre des Vampires which he created.. He also frequented the Opera houses when he was living with Louis and Claudia. No offense meant.. I just saw your opinion completely opposite mine so that got me thinking.. I wanted to see this broadway so bad. And I was so disappointed when I heard it closed early.

  • I've read the Vampire Chronicles 3 times around...and yes, jessemudd, you're right, he DID sing opera. He was a big fan of the opera and the theatre life. :)

  • thanks for posting!

  • that sounds like hell

  • What sounds like hell?
