...the ONLY reason the Canadians dont have a team like th blue angels is strictly budgetary.....as for pilots..these C.A.F. guys are SECOND TO NONE..they have ALL flown on the CF18 in the C.A.F. before joining the Snow birds...

The Snowbirds are about the grace and beauty and magic of flight. One very nice thing about a Snowbird show, you dont have to stand with your fingers in your ears as you do with the Blues and Thunderbirds. Snowbirds are based at Moosejaw, Sask. not Ontario(as easterners seem to think that is the center of the known universe!

I am an american, I love this. I believe the snowbirds and Blue Angels are equal. The snowbirds are mean to look magestic and beautyful while the angels are meant to look unbelieveable and amazing. Stunning. The reason why canada dont have a team like the blue angels is because the canadians are scared that a screw up (very possible) will happen

What you said makes sense. I've been to 30 plus shows, and have seen one close call: at a Vandenberg AFB show (few in the crowd seemed to even notice). A few maneuvers have forward momentum toward the crowd. Those maneuvers should be banned by the FAA, but they have not. I've asked myself whether I would keep rolling film in the event of a tragic mishap, assuming I and those around me to be safe. Most such tragedies to date it appears have been in Europe. I pray before each show.

@Dakotaisemo23 26 blue angels pilots have died in their history since 1946 until the most recent one in 2007, the snowbirds have had 8 deaths since 1972 up until 2008 both teams have had pilots die at shows or training exercises. Screw ups have happened and will happen.

I think one of the problem of Snowbird is their ageing fleet. I recall there was an accident back to 05 was because of a mechanical failure.

@Dakotaisemo23 I am a former airshow demonstration pilot and you couldn't be more wrong about the Snowbirds being afraid of a possible screw up. Both teams are equal and would say so about each other. The Snowbirds fly with nine planes, the Blues fly with six making the Snowbirds show much more intense. The Snowbird's aircraft are slower with less raw thrust requiring more piloting skill to perform the same manuver.

@allanhunkin Plus people (mostly Americans, no offence) under rate and think Canada is 'gay' and ignorant. This will just wreck Canada's repetition (Military, ect.,you know what) and worsen it more, relating to our only 'negative's'.

Snowbirds are poetry compared to Thunderbirds and Blue Angels sheer bravado. Not that I'm dissing the other teams, but the Snowbirds are about the beauty and grace of flight.

Interesting, did not know name of jet. Overall, they make for the best film footage, for an old Hi-8 cam like mine. Great maneuvers.
