  • I have a 1998 mustang 3.8L. Just installed a cold air intake, and ordered an O/R H pipe. Flowmaster 40's American thunder catback exhaust system. Any suggestions man? the rest of my car is stock, and the exhaust hasn't arrived yet...

  • im going to be honest with you and everyone else... v6 stangs can be cool for the most part but as soon as you do the exhaust up, it sounds like a civic. if they had done ohc on the v6 with 24v, i think it would have sounded a lot better. this s just 2 high pitch for me and yours really isnt that bad. save the money on modding it and put a 5.0 in it or spend a little more and get a 4.6. it will sound 100x better and be faster than a tune job

  • well theres no cheap way. haha. exhaust is exhaust. unless you want to get plastic tubing hahaha. but just get what I have and get the shop to custom make it. not expensive

  • the H pipe is custom. the shop made it. and nah the shop sold me the tips separately

  • are you saying you dont want a custom midpipe? a midpipe is a midpipe regardless if its bought from the manufacturer or made in the exhaust shop. they dont sound any diff, its just a better way to go cause its cheaper

  • Sounds nasty man. I have 2000 6 with a custom H pipe and Flowmaster 40's. Will I fail inspection if I cut cats? I'm in MA, so you prolly don't know. But how do you think it will sound if I keep the cats and get high flows instead? Thanks and sick car. Nice job.

  • thanks! yep, just stock throttle body- dont really plan on upgrading because they dont do too much. wil need one when i get a supercharger by the end of summer though

  • your v6 sounds sick im going with the 40 series cat back also and im trying to decide fora X or H i want better sound and i hear H is better for that, and i didnt know you can have stock headers with a H pipe. your video helped out greatly!

  • of course you can have stock shorty headers with an H, hell you can even have it with an X! they are two completely different things. you can have longtubes with an H or X also. see what I mean? Im glad my vid helped. i think it sounds unique keeping the stock shortys IMO

    cats its ilegal here thats the problem eighter so gonna try the Y pipe cutouts instead. it sounds good already saw it on youtube, saw you last video sounds nice, deep throttle sound.

  • yes there is cutout for the Y pipe, so i can keep the single exhaust,

  • I say just go ahead and dual it, you will need dual exhaust in the end. It has so many more gains over a Y pipe single out

  • Thats what you said but i dont like the dual exhaust for my V6, my personal opinion, and for sure i dont need a dual exhaust in the end for the cutout setup thats a fact you can ask anyone who know more about single cutout setups.

    About power gains on a dual exhaust thats true but i go for a 3 inch piping that will increase the power as well. thanks.

  • i have a lincoln ls v8 and put flowmaster mufflers on it, it sounds real nice but i'm looking to make it louder. removing the Cats could make it louder right? i mean it cant be much loder than yours if i do decide to do that which stil keeps it on the legal side.

  • removing the cats totally alters the sound. some places its illegal, im lucky and its fine

  • Rev it above 2.5k maybe? Try a drive by or something. You can't get the full effect of how good an exhaust sounds unless theres a drive by or actually give it a manly rev.

  • dude ur car sounds great but what can you say about the performance without the cats, how much torque do you loose with the cats off? i want to put a demolet CAI, MAC shorty ceramic polished headers, MAC O/R H pipe, 2 original 40 series, and 4 or 3.5 SS magnaflow tips, but i don't want to loose torque, i want better sound without a shitty running pony.what do u recomend?

  • if your remove cats you lose torque no matter what. do not re flowmasters, they are truck mufflers and are just a bad name to have on an american muscle mustang. if you have a GT bumper 4" if you have a v6 bumper then 3.5" but get a GT thats what i need.

  • you drove past me today on humpreys at the gtown parkway light. its a nice ride just if you had the gt the exhaust might actually sound good instead of some loud ass noise with a blacked out stang flyin down the street..i've heard civics with greddy evo2 exhaust that sound better than that.

  • instead of flows- i would get actual performance exhaust for CARS, like magnaflow, bassani, SLP. i was go for the SLP loudmouths. flowmaster- id say thats for truck and shit

  • your mustang is loudest with flowmaster 40s, if you switch to magnaflow you'll gain a lil more performance but lose out on tone. bassani is expensive and in my opinion not worth the moeny

  • the chip, worth it 100%. you can use the 3 octanes of gas, the lowest, mid and premium, premium has the highest gains. it makes a big difference in HP/TQ- it changes shift points and has other stuff to it too. the under drive pulley, i could tell a bit of a difference, its suppose to get up to at least 10HP, so i could feel it a it, all my mods have been worth it so far except no cats on shorty headers, i have other appearance mods too
