We find that college age consumers

    are

typically using debit cards more regularly than credit cards.

Unfortunately, this group of consumers is at high risk for identity theft but they do not think they have anything to lose but the funds in their checking account.

They fail to recognize that an id thief can use their credit to steal a lot more than just the funds in their checking account.

This may be relevant information to pass along to your views when discussing identity theft.

  • What about prepaid visa or mastercard cards? They are just like debit cards and don't get nsf fees. You only can spend what you put on the card.

  • Yes, they are definitely BETTER than a debit card. However, if one is going to store money on a credit card, why NOT build credit as well by going secured?

  • Thanks for the information, I was a merchant and had a credit card machine. on Sat the end of the month I batched out my transactions the credit card company processed my charges on Saturday at the end of the month and on Monday the first day of June so the charges would appear on two statements. I did not know they were processed twice until the clients called to to demand refunds. When one client contacted her bank, they told her I processed one as a debit and one as a credit.

  • nice video and what is the name of the song at the end of the video?

  • The name of the song is "Half Moon Bay." It's one of the royalty-free songs in the Apple iLife GarageBand application. No artist is listed.
