  • Jeff, I'm a lefty and thinking about buying an LCP. Have you had any problems inadvertently activating the magazine release?

  • None at all.

    Jeff

  • Did you record this video with the box that ruger came in?

  • Love this channel, but please upgrade your cameras for better picture quality.

  • Our cameras are good. We have to keep the resolution low for folks who are still on slow connections, as at least half of internet users are, including myself. We are here to give information, not to shoot epic films, and good photos can be seen within the text reviews on Gunblast.com.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom--I don't know what NCHunter is talking about. I trust your advice and knowledge more than anyone else on tube or in print. The camera quality is superb for what you are doing and it is as you say. You are not shooting an epic film, but providing an educational service for those of us who are more interested in what you are saying and doing and the products you are reviewing than the picture quality. Perhaps NCHunter should be looking at camera reviews instead.

  • We are exploring the possibilities of going to HD video. We're looking at data transfer and such, both for our readers (a good number of whom are still on dial-up connections), and for uploading (my brother Boge is on DSL). I agree that our videos are good for what they are, and are vastly improved since we started, but we always seek to improve.

  • I was wonderin' whatever happened to the guy from the Oak Ridge Boyz. Nice shootin' there podna!!

  • I shot my step father's LCP and the trigger pull is way too long IMHO and at least on the (brand new) one he has, you basically have no idea where - within the last 1/4 of the pull - the gun will discharge. Not only does this make the firearm dangerous IMO but because I feel it's so dangerous, I find no pleasure in using it at the range and I don't intend to fire it again. My stepfather is a Marine Colonel and when attempting to fire the 1st round, he thought the gun was broken because...cont.

  • I just bought a 2011 lcp and have put 200 rounds though it and have had no problems. I love it

  • Jeff, awesome video. This little gun looks great. Question for you...do you think my wife could carry/shoot this handgun? I can tell you right now she can't handle my Glock 22 so I'm just looking for something for her to protect herself. Thanks!

  • The LCP is very good, but does have more recoil than a slightly larger, slightly heavier pistol. I recommend the Bertsa Thunder 380, if recoil is a problem for her.

    Jeff

  • Jeff, thanks for wading through all the emails, I'm sure it gets old. My question is: Can you tell me if the LCP problems are fixed now? I know they were having trouble with them and I think there was a recall, but I'm trying to figure out if I buy one how to tell if its one of the "upgraded" or fixed guns. Thanks as always.......

  • No problems at all now. In my opinion, there never was a problem, but Ruger found that there was a potential in the early guns to discharge if dropped, so they recalled the earlier pistols for retrofit. All pistols included in the recall have a 370 serial number prefix, and Ruger stamps a diamond in the frame's hammer channel after refit. If an LCP has a serial number beginning with anything other than “370”, it already has the upgraded hammer assembly, and is not affected by the recall.

    Jeff

  • I love this gun but for some reason I keep shooting to the left. Any tips on shooting such a small gun? Thanks for the great videos!

  • Right-handed shooters often push to the left. Instead of using the knuckle joint, PRESS the trigger rearward with the pad of your finger.

    Jeff

  • Hey Jeff do you know anything about the Sig P238?

  • There is an article in our ARCHIVE section, and a video on YouTube. I'd post a link, but YouTube won't let me.

  • Question for anyone. For concealed carry and home defense I currently have a S&W Model 60 .357 mag revolver 2" barrel (5 rounds). Lately I've been thinking about buying this Ruger LCP but I only want to own one gun. In your opinion(s) am I better off with what I already have? Thanks in advance.

  • @texman81 id keep the .357 mag if you only want one gun :)

  • Thanks for the info Jeff...I need a reliable backup weapon, and this looks like it will fit the bill nicely. You do do a helluva job, man- I've gotten to where before I get ready to buy a weapon, I always "check with you first"! Keep up the great work, and thanks!

  • Thank you. Glad to help!

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff,

You've reviewed almost all the guns I own, and through my own use of those guns, I've found your evaluations to be consistently spot on.

I've duplicated enough of your descriptions with the guns I own that I know If you recommend a gun (or holster, etc...), I can buy it without worry.

I've been looking for a pocket pistol, and this video (along with your written review) has me wanting one of these little LCPs.

Thanks for all the advice you've given...

  • nice beard man

  • How the recoil compared to a full sized 9mm?

  • A little snappy, but not painful at all. There is not as much grip to hold as a full size 9, but it is very controllable.

    Jeff

  • I love my Ruger LCP and Ruger stands behind their products. I used to carry a 642 and have replaced it with the LCP. Its the only 380 I would buy (did buy). I use Remington Golden Saber in my LCP.

  • I am a BIG fan of ruger pistol and own two ( p90 & sp101 ) both are built like tanks but if I get a LCP .380 for my back up gun. Do you think I can shoot it like 1000 times a year for 10 years thats 10,000 rounds. Will I wear it out OR just break it in like my other guns? I do love to shoot alot . THANKS

  • Get it and shoot it all you want. If you ever manage to break it, Ruger will fix it at no charge.

    Jeff

  • @Fudd4570 dont worry bud itll take it,thats what ruger really has over the keltec, yes i functions the same, its heavier, and bigger slightly but ruger builds thier guns to last at the range or in the field keltec built their guns specifically as defense pieces within their own boundaries

  • can anybody help me please i have never shot a .380 pistol (but i am planning to do that) is there a difference between .380 acp and .380 auto ???

i mean can you shoot .380auto ammo in a .380 acp pistol ??

  • Yes, just two different names for the same ammo.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom thanks for the reply man ^^

    have a nice day

  • @RoyalAlba1 they're the same thing

  • @PatrioticOhioan

Not sure if u are still looking for ammo, but cabelas usually has 380 either in stock or with a 1-2 week backorder. FMJ are pretty readily available on there, but hollow points are hit and miss.

  • you handle recoil quite well.

  • 380 ammo is in high demand, but you can still find plenty of it.

    Jeff

  • what is the powerfulst pocket pistol/revolver??? can anybody tell me

  • Nobody can tell you, as everyone has a different opinion of what qualifies as a "pocket" gun. If your pocket is large enough, a two-inch barrelled S&W 500 will fit.

    Jeff

  • @Gunblastdotcom

ive seen that one and the recoil is unbelieved if the recoil wasnt so powerful then it will be verry good

  • the smallest J frame snub nose revolver with the biggest punch is the S+W 340 PD , it is a 357 magnum that weighs about 12 ounces. but I have seen 2 shot derringers that shoot a 44 special, 410 shot shell, 45 colt, and 357 magnum. .

  • We reviewed one of those a while back (check the Archives), and my brother Boge carries one regularly.

  • Try winchester silver tip 380 - they feed marvalously and have a good group at 10-15 feet. I found that if you polish the feedramp - hollow points feed much better that ball. I used a dremal with jewelers rouge and a buffing point to polish the ramp and throat and barrel feed. nver had a miss-feed with either ball or hollowpoint.

  • Hi Jeff, I tried 2 different hollow points, one was gold dot and the other federal hydro shok, both jam (a lot). I tried 2 seperate magazines. Also, the mags don't insert smooth into the gun, they get stuck about half way and I have to push them in. The barrel shakes around when I have the gun n 4th position (with the slide secured in place back). Does your gun do the same thing? Do you think I have a lemon

  • The barrel is supposed to move with the slide locked back, but the gun is also supposed to function properly. I would try some Cor-Bon hollowpoint. If it still does not work, call Ruger to have the pistol repaired under warranty. They will make it right.

    Jeff

  • When I use Hollow points, my LCP jams alot. No matter what brand of HP I use. Full metal jackets work fine. Does anyone else have this problem? Please help thanks

  • Have you tried any Cor-Bon ammo? If you are using a name-brand American made hollowpoint load, and it still jams, I would try another magazine. If the problem persists, call Ruger. It has to be 100 percent reliable with good ammo.

    Jeff

  • Hi Jeff, have you seen the new ruger LCPs with the fancy engraving on them??, very purty!! They are about $75 more than the standard LCP. I had an LCP until I saw the new Kahr P380, I love Ruger, but went with the Kahr

    steven

  • Yes, i have seen that.

    Jeff

  • Epic beard.

  • I appreciate all of your videos, very informative. I have a LCP and it is a fine pocket gun

  • cool

what has more penetrating power .380 or .32?

    thanks!

  • what do u prefer. .micro eagle or this ruger?

  • Both are very good, but the Ruger weighs less, so that is my preference.

    Jeff

  • like my lcp....wish slide would lock after last round. new taurus tcp is similar and slide locks to rear.

  • jeff quinn is the MAN

  • I do love living in the great republic of texas so very much. Virginias cool too though. Something about 100 degree weather...

  • dude i used to live in calif for 13 years and moved to va and used to want to go back to CA BADLY!....I am so glad I never did due to their crappy gun laws. Come to VA where the only anti gun law is u can have a stryker 12 (streetsweeper) thats about it! LOL

  • screw california and screw arnald schwarzenegger!!!!!!!

  • fuk youuuuuuu

  • So what is the accuracy like?

  • I feel bad for the guy who breaks into Jeff's house.

  • @rangerdanger222 i'd feel bad for them even if Jeff didn't own any guns.

  • @rangerdanger222 I'd feel bad for Jeff... after watching these videos, the only intelligent people trying to break into Jeff's house would probably have a whole mess of guns on his person. It would be like the Lobby scene from The Matrix.

  • @bchokola Jeff is The One.

  • @rangerdanger222 i don't basterd got what he deserves and with jeff you know he will

  • i ordered one, my dad was supposed to deliver this week but he will next week because of swine flu

  • i believe u cant have it in california because its chambered in .380 which they say is not a sport caliber..they do not merit self defense as a reason a gun should be created..

im not sure about this..but i think thats why the strict laws of california do not allow this gun..

i have never shot the ruger lcp but i do own a kel tec p3at (almost identical gun) and it works like a charm =]

  • Why is it illegal in Kalifornia? Does this have to much firepower?

  • Because the politicians on Kaleefornia have their heads up their bleeps. Freedom is never a lost cause. Take Kaleefornia back!

  • W A N T but I can't because I live in KALIFORNIA!!!

  • DO NOT put up with this. VOTE, and help mobilize other like-minded voters. Take Kaleefornia back!

  • explain?

  • A hand gun must pass a series of tests to be put on a roster in order to be sold in Kalifornia. Kaliforina is a lost cause when it comes to gun rights I'm moving to free America , Arizona in a few years!!!!

  • So move.

  • any moron who uses "pwned" is a POS.

  • You can purchase one Private Party from a cop or person who got one from a cop... or military serviceman. I own two, ones in my pocket. I live in gay gun law Cali so I feel your pain. I want 33 round mags for my glocks dammit. Too bad I can't move my business to texas.

  • I carry a PPK .380 as my day to day SD. I'm on a waiting list for an LCP.

  • Comment removed

  • You are wrong. Ruger fought the Clinton ban. S&W caved to it. The LCP was not malfunctioning. There was a slight possibility that if the LCP was dropped upon its muzzle onto concrete from over 21 feet high, that it could POSSIBLY fire. Ruger played it safe, and recalled the pistols. None ever fired, but the possibility was there. Ruger is a good company that employs many Americans, and they make good products.

  • I carry the 102 grain Remington golden Sabre JHP. it has a round nose for reliable feeding.

  • any opinions on the stopping power of a .380 vs other calibers?

  • Bigger is better.

    Jeff

  • 380 ACP is considered the minimum caliber for defense. but the main selling point of the LCP is the fact that it is so light, and thin. with bigger guns, folks start finding reasons not to carry them. I have several large caliber pistols, but I carry the LCP the most. first rule in a gun fight....have a gun!!!!

  • i want a gun for self defense this looks like a good one... good idea?

  • Excellent idea! They are fine guns.

  • I have the LCP, i highly recommend it. it has a DA trigger like a revolver, and fires, and reloads like a semi auto. no safety to mess with , just point, and shoot. it does not get simpler than that. good luck!!!

  • Wich caliber you recommend the most for practice and/or self defense?

  • 38 special for a revolver or 9mm for a small auto. Sounds like a good gun but no one really needs the .380 anymore (they need the 327 Ruger Mag even less IMHO)

  • What's the price of that gun?

  • Current MSRP is $326. Street prices vary.

  • Very affordable price!!!!

  • Might as well get a Taurus Millinium 45 for that price!!

  • Nice gun, I might consider getting that one!!!!

  • I have the Taurus PT 145, and excellent 45 subcompact for the money. but i still find myself putting the LCP in my pocket as i head out the door. I pray to god that i never have to put the LCP to the test, but it is there if that day ever comes.

  • this gun is not reliable

  • Why do you say that?

  • I finally found one of these guns after calling about 20 different firearm stores. Waiting list, waiting list, waiting list. I offered this guy cash up front and jumped ahead of everybody else who are still waiting.

  • I had some major problems with my LCP today. It appears the slight downwards pressure caused by holding it tightly with the new finger extension floor plate was causing the magazine to eject as it fired. It's as if the jar of firing coupled with the slight downward pressure causes the magazine notch to slip past the internal release tab. I'm going back to the original magazine design, even though my accuracy is not as good with it.

  • i fired one and it was new, it had a heavy trigger pull. is that because it was a new gun?

  • Mine has broken twice. First it was the trigger pivot pin, they fixed it and sent it back. Then the firing pin broke. They fixed it, did the recall fix and sent it back. I still love its size, weight, and performance, even though its reliability has been crappy so far. I bought a Walther PPS 9mm as a backup for when it breaks again and is out getting repaired. I thought of getting 2 of these LCPs, but I really wanted a 9mm. I got my LCP for $299.

  • You should get a glock or a sig sauer

  • I like the thinner pistols. I think Glock just came out with a thin version, but I'm fine with the Walther and LCP.

  • Yeah, Glock came out with the 30SF (slim/short frame) in .45ACP Carry the Glock 23 in .40 thats the mid-size pistol.

  • I carry the glock 23*

  • How do you like the LCP? I'm thinking about getting one after I get my Bushmaster M4A3

  • Despite the many problems I've had with it, I still like it as my primary carry because of its size and weight. I have yet to carry my Walther PPS, but it's much larger and I still have not received my holster from Don Hume. It's going to be a while before I carry that 9mm. If the LCP were super reliable it would get a 10/10 from me. I'm being vocal about these LCP problems because I want Ruger to perfect it. My advice is to go ahead and get one, just make sure you have an alternate weapon.

  • I would like to have one and test it out myself to see how reliable it would be for me. I guess I just better off caarrying my glock.

  • you watch this video in english so why cant you speak/type english.

  • Glock makes a .380 for the South American market.

  • You are right about that. If they sold the .380 here in the USA, I think glock would make alot more money due to the people who demand a .380 pistol.

  • I'm sure they would make some money offering the .380 here but seeing as how it's the same size as the more powerful 9mm and would probably be rougher to shoot because of the blowback design I don't see the upside to carrying one.

  • giv'em the sting stang.just bought one for my wife she loves it....

  • Nice little gun. Think I'll pick one up.

FYI-They've been recalled. Check Ruger's site.

  • I like that gun! I think they got'em a winner there?

  • his finger .......
