  • WOW.. I have a 1975 911S that would love to have that kind of power, and cost!..

with 2 914 and 1 911 maybe one can ....dream.

  • This video is very well done.

  • @StreetHypnosisOz I am still learning the art of editing and video voice-overs...so thanks for the compliment. I just upgraded my computer so that I can edit HD. My next big project will be the first using the better hardward. We will see what happens. Scott!

  • wow, awesomeness right there!

  • Excellent video. Scott, you're a great spokesman. Even if you exclude the money saved by not replacing or rebuilding the stock flat-6, given Porsche maintenance prices, it probably won't take long to recoup the money for the conversion at Chevy maintenance prices. My only observation regarding some of your older videos is that most car enthusiasts want the music in any car video to come from the engine, not loud music. Great job. I love Renegade Hybrids.

  • We have an article coming out in Excellence Magazine very soon, and it's written by Peter Brock who is known for not-pulling-punches. From his two day visit to Renegade, he seemed very impressed with the 996 conversion. I am quite sure his review in Excellence will tell the story...

  • @RenegadeHybrids Did this ever come about?

  • I could see a reason for the conversion, as I've looked into something called IMS failure...

  • $20k would be all the conversion parts, gauges, etc., and a NEW complete LS3 500HP engine with all the trimmings. Labor for all of this installed in the car would be around $7000. So if you would like a slightly less powerful engine, you could save some money. Our average in-house quote on a 996 is around $25K or so turn-key ready to take home.

  • Scott are talking 20k for the conversion itself,or 20k to include a decent donor car.

  • I will save you a place by the fire!!! ()-8 HAHA!

  • Scott: you are going to Porsche hell. I love you buddy!

  • It certainly makes the most sense for anyone that looks outside of the box and wants all of the advantages of the LS engines. I don't think it's for everyone in every application at all, but for us and at least a few other applications, it is the most obvious choice! Cheap, reliable, simple, light weight, horse power...no drama...no attitude!

  • Honestly, is there a car out there that an infusion of good ol' Ellis pushrods can't help out?

  • Glad to hear that, enjoy it.

  • The turbo engine is better built and engineered than the NA's. If I had a reliable turbo, I would do the same as you. But, if my turbo died as some have done, I would go with the lighter weight alternative with the LS V8. Then, I would do an easy cam and throttle body upgrade to an LS3 for less than $1500 and I would have 550 reliabile HP with far less weight past the rear wheels.

  • @RenegadeHybrids The turbo engine is really robust, as are the GT3 and GT2 engines. They are the legendary Metzger. I can't say the same for the other NA engines like the M96/97 flat 6.

  • My 996 Turbo has 480HP, stock 6. I think I will keep it, and the performance is all there without(and better than)the V8

  • @CCWGUY Yeah, that's cause the turbo us awesome. But if you've got a basic 911 with no power or value at all, or with a broken engine, the V8 is a great option, being more reliable, easier to get parts of, cheaper to mantain, and easy to soup up. The handling is about the same too.

  • No tips...I am sorry. The cost can be as little as $20K including an engine. It really depends on the condition of the car, the engine of choice, AC or not, etc. I was called last week about doing a 996 Cab without air and a used Camaro LS-1. The estimatel was south of $20k and the LS-1 had 50k miles on it. That's a 350HP cab that cost 19 bucks for an oil change. The customer was more than thrilled about this idea.

  • how much does this cost to do, and can you make it work with tiptronic?

  • I honestly have to tell you, it didn't make any noise to speek of. With the camera down on the ground by the rear pass. quarter panel as seen in the video, it sounded almost silent. With some full throttle drifting in the parking lot, you got to hear some exhaust noise...but that was it. Remember, we used the stock mufflers after going through 4 cat on the E-Rod V8. Our next one will have a nice V8 exhaust note!

  • Awesome video. Serious suggestion though, I couldn't hear the car, at all. I think a big part of the allure of the LS motor is the sound. Still, looks like an awesome conversion.

  • Bring me one and we will use "Go-Banzo-Beans" to make it really fly! Haha.

  • Great Car! Great conversion. Congratulations. When are we gonna see a 997 GT3 RS with some real beans!!!

  • Thanks for your input. I am no video-making expert...so I will stick to building cars, but this attempt was intended to be more informative! According to you, it worked! Don't worry, I won't quit my day job, but I will attempt to make future videos with more content and less 'bling'! Again, thanks for your continued interest.

  • This video is great. Much improved over the other ones and a good sales tool. Car looks great and can't wait to see what you guys will have this year. Only complaint is now I have to sell off my old project.

  • dope

  • Thanks a ton. I godda' give equal credit to my whole staff. When it was slow last year, we had the time to make this conversion our best yet. We had this engine in and out of this car more times than I can remember. Also, credit to the owner of this car, Sam, who has been the dream-customer from the start. He asked me, "Did 'it' turn out as good as you expected?" I said, "Better!" ...And that's the truth. Now I want one!!!

  • Makin it Scoot Scott... Clean install, very clean.

  • Very nice Scott....
