I've been checking out the merlin videos and they all seem to get comparable results as my Cam Caddie that only cost me $38 as opposed to the $800 for the Merlin
The weight of the Merlin, as with all Steadicams and similar stabilizers, depends on the weight of the camera that you are balancing on it. With no weights at all, my Merlin weighs one pound, 1.5 ounces. You have to use at least some weights. Equipped with enough weights to balance a Sony EX-1, my Merlin weighs exactly three pounds.
I have a Glidecam 200 Pro and like the Steadicam Merlin much better. It is much more stable, much smoother, and much easier to set up and readjust. Fine adjustments on the cheaper Glidecam 2000 are very difficult.
ur rediculously good at that man, as a former 14$ steadi cam operator i know that its not easy keeping the cam steady walking backwards. props man, can you tell me about how much it would cost me if i wanted to buy one of these? that looked movie proof. And did you have a fish eye on that camera? what was that like .6? cuz i noticed the shot was very wide and the door way looked sorta barreled. ill bookmark this page and check on it soon.
Thank you for the compliment! You are exactly right; I was using a wide angle converter lens on the VX2000. The conversion factor was .65, and the converter was made by Century Precision Optics.
where are the benefits for a merlin system and why you dont prefer the glidecam hd 2000?

That's cool! That house is neat. It would look 100 times richer if it had hardwood floor though.

Will it work with a Flip Ultra HD Cam? Or are those just too light?
Theaumes 2 years ago
just build one for the flip ultra HD cam

Haha if you are using a Flip Ultra then you don't need this. Your $800 should be spent on a better camera.

how large was your lens to start?
My lens is 37mm diameter ( Canon HV20 ) and i was looking at a .66 wide angle lens.
Can you tell me more about that steadycam please?
i have a video / documentary on the 14$ steady cam, but that one is amazing. Prob is real expensive.
Thanks for replying
