the great Fred Allen on the great Whats My Line 1953. Radio gisnt, he did fine on WML. Im s tv film historian. in knew many many great stars of yesteryear. i never knew Fred but sorry he left us in 56 at 61. I knew most of the cast of WMY however. This is classic tv. Whats My Line & Fred at their best. we need more giants. its a bygone era. thanks Fred & YOUTUBe. TOMK
Well, 62 was actually an average age in 1956 for someone to pass away. Nonetheless, he was a very funny man and was a nice addition to the panel when Steve Allen left.
Statistically speaking, you are correct, but think of how many of his peers lived to ripe old ages, Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Groucho Marx, George Burns. And these men were able to do some of their best work after 60,
Thanx for posting this. Fred Allen's forte was topical satire on radio. Unfortunately, he died young and did not quite find his niche in TV, though he certainly did funny things on WML 1954-1956.
Damn he is funny

This was way before I was born, but watching this (so randomly I might add) was kinda funny.

Early in his career, Fred Allen was a ventriloquist which he seems to be doing a bit here. He said in his book that he wasn't very good at it.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I don't recall seeing him as a panelist on any of the episodes of "What's My Line".

Oh, he was. Look up "Red Skelton--What's My Line?" for example.
