I too saw that movie when I was a child when it was released on the silver screen in 1970. I was really impressed and especially happy since after seeing so many American war movies, the Japanese spoke actual Japanese.
That's right. Yamato was a favorite place for the Admirals and other high ranked officers to visit when it was on dock. As a result, the ship was nicknamed the "Yamato Hotel" by lower ranks.
Ever since I saw the near full scale battleship Nagato (it looked slightly smaller) in the TORA movie, I wanted one or someone with real money to build a full scale Yamato as a luxury liner for the special guests. I would've done it if I had the money, even if it meant no profit.
That's right in which the boss of my place of work inspected NAGATO made from the actual size of a movie "TORATORATORA" as a child. (It lives near the photography spot.) Hearing the talk, I thought that I was very enviable. If I am also a large rich man, I want to found full-scale YAMATO.
Still I'm glad the movie studio built this partial set, just to let the public see the sheer size of this great ship.
In 1970, I saw the movie Tora Tora Tora in America and saw the full scale battleship Nagato, I must've been the only person in the audience that was so excited by it. In 2000, as a member of USAF, I went to Pearl Harbor to see the battleships Arizona and Missouri. To think that Yamato was even bigger than Missouri.
As for the bridge and the rest of the super structure above the tripple 6in gun turret, was that all added in by CGI? Or was there a separate stage with the top of the superstructure elsewhere? (like the scene of the look out on top?)

If it was mine, I would've kept it. Complete the rest, and make it as Yamato Hotel.

この映画のセットを取り壊したことは勿体無いですね。
戦争初期の「大和」は、出撃の機会が無くて、兵士たちから「大和 ホテル」と呼ばれていたそうです。
Having pulled down the set of this movie does not have undue importance.
MOTTAINAI.
It is said that "YAMATO" in early stages of war does not have an opportunity of a sortie, and was called the "YAMATO HOTEL" from soldiers.

I cannot write English sentences.
Sentences were translated with a translation tool.
When it is a strange translation, I'm sorry.
Thank you for the impression.
This ship is a location set of the movie '男たちの大和(Otoko tachino YAMATO)' of Japan.
It is dismantled, and it doesn't exist now though it was open to the public in general
after the screenshot ends.
