  • Can you hold and search for channels like a conventional scanner? This kinda seems like a hybrid between a tablet and a radio. not sure I can trust this for every day use.

  • How long does one set of batteries last?

  • UNIDEN FIGHTING!

  • Uniden! GL in the gsl my friend!

  • i can do the same thing with my ipod the scanner app is only 1.99 cents why spend $500

  • @tapdancegirl88 that app is not actually scanning. You are only listening to feed provided by users of real scanners, such as the homepatrol. If you are ever in a place where the feed is not available, or you want to listen to something that is not on a feed, you're out of luck.

  • @Stupendoussteve not true im listening to where i live live

  • @tapdancegirl88 You are listening live to an audio stream over the internet. Turn the iPod in airplane mode and it will not work anymore. The iPhone and iPod do not have the radio hardware to pick up the frequencies that a scanner can.

  • @Stupendoussteve wanna sell me your digital scanner for $75.. let me know asap

  • well the ipod app and the radio are two different beasts. Yes you can listen to stuff with the ipod, i have both an ipod and the ap too and a scanner, not this one (yet). With the ipod , your limited in what the app will present to you, where with a real scanner in front of you you can have much more control over what you want to listen to. You don't need to spend 500, for a scanner , this one is bleeding edge - i would suspect that it will come down and get better over time.

  • @tapdancegirl88 The iPod scanner is limited to what other people have choosen to make available online. Often, these "volunteers" are offline (for me, at least).

  • Uniden's blink micro!

  • Uniden!!? lol

  • @bben95 Why "lol?" Uniden makes the best scanners in the world. They also make the vast majority of cordless phones. Most cordless phones sold under different names are usually manufactured by Uniden.

  • @Mainsail76 theres not much point buying a scanner if you need it that simple to operate. This kind of product is for people with extremely low iq's who expect everything to be really simple. Why can't they just scan in the ranges the things they want to listen to are in.

  • @bben95 Not everyone wants to take the time to program a scanner... including myself. Assuming people have a low I.Q. because they don't want to give up a weekend to program a scanner is naive. You should also be aware that Uniden offers a "Extreme Upgrade" for people who want to use more advanced features. You should check it out... I think you will be pleased.

  • @sparkmedia1 To be honest it wouldnt take a whole weekend. On my latest scanner I just looked up some frequencies online for all the local ham repeaters as an example. And for local businesses that use radio, they wont be in unidens database anyway will they? If you set a custom search range, then just save all the frequencies you find you can have them all in 10 mins depending on how frequently the users transmit. The extreme option sounds good, but it should be something that comes with the it

  • UNIDEN!!

  • UNIDEN!

  • does this receiver have and external antenna connection and an external speaker connection? And how well does it work with APCO 25 Digital encryptions? does it find that automatically as well? Please let me know Thanks.

  • Starcraft 2!!!!

  • where can you buy this it is VERY interesting!!!

  • it is also vary expensive $600 for a scanner

  • @minigun67 I got mine for $480. They have came down.

  • Simply AMAZING!!! This IS the future of radio scanning!!! 500 bucks is steep though, and I am hoping other manufacturers join the bandwagon with this technology, and offer a scanner for about $300.

  • Will this work for stuff other then police/fire/ems? I like to scan the local railroads around me and I also like to scan the road crews as well.

  • @firefighter1811

Yeah you can scan planes and trains with this.

You don't need one this expensive, the $100 ones from radioshack are fine for trains

  • @mewrox99 thanks for the reply. I have a pro-84 that I use all the time for trains. I sometimes go to other states to watch trains and sometimes they have different frequencies so it would be nice to just have the scanner find them other then me having to re-program every time. BTW how many channels/banks does this scanner have?

  • @DanOrtego No, the software isn't Mac compatible, but I have Parallels with Vista installed on my Mac and it wasn't a hassle. The main thing the software does is make sure the firmware and database are current. Other than that the rest of the functions of the software are duplicated by the scanner.

  • absolutely WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As usual, the software step is completely side-stepped and the dark secret continues.

Is the software Mac compatible? This seemingly simple bit of information is ALWAYS withheld from potential consumers. Uniden could easily increase their sales if only they understood the growing number of Mac users.

  • wow

  • looks coool how u compare this to the other digoital scanners

  • Why is it laying on a towel?

  • The only thing that could make this better is built-in GPS, both for swapping towers and systems as well as navigation.

I don't think the price is too bad considering the capability.

  • too too expensive. i guess im stuck with my old yaesu vx 7r

  • Any idea how much it costs?

  • The price has been announced at $499.95. Available (pre-orders only for now) from Grove and Universal Radio. Interesting device, but the price is a bit steep for a micro-controller and programming.

  • I can't wait for Christmas!!!

  • Is that on a feed or live?

  • Chuck Norris would have that up in running in 30 seconds not 3 minutes...Im just saying..

  • @solidsignalz

Do you mean Carlos Norris? Because that's Chuck's real name.

  • @roscodawg Thanks, I'll sleep better knowing that.

  • This is definetly a new item on my wish list. Finally someone brings the ease of use back into the scanning hobby. I hope they will make a handheld scanner with similar features soon. Thanks to Uniden for a great looking scanner!

  • This looks very interesting.

Will it let you listen to multiple Zip Codes at once? On my scanner, I listen to frequencies from about 8 different zip codes in three counties.

  • old scanners are better

  • this thing is sick! Id rather handle the programming myself though.

  • i lik eit dont thinks its sick at all

  • @564955charlie

Yeah, but sometimes you're traveling on the road in areas where you don't know their local frequencies. This could be really cool for just punching in the zip codes as you drive through.

  • @roscodawg Yeah true! Will make scanning alot more mainstream.

  • Can you use software to custom program system's, talkgroups, etc. like you can of the GRE PSR-500?

  • Might be OK for the average person who wants to hear their local stuff, but this is NOT a "serious" scanning receiver. Personally speaking, I do NOT want to hear "everything". I do not want to hear taxi cabs, city buses, mall security guards or other assorted "business" comms.

Is there any way to "skip" over services one is not interested in or prevent it from loading old/unused frequencies?

  • My scanner can warm up my Pop Tarts, Hee Hee Hee, can yours?

  • It loaded over 300 channels in under 2 minutes!

    cool!

  • can you add freqs

  • my iphone has a 99 cent app called emergency radio and it does the same thing. Just FYI.

  • @k1111117 Just not while your doing anything else :-)

  • @k1111117

    nope :D

  • I'll have to get one of these before I break into my next house.

  • Dude, you sound like Alex Jones.

  • Can anyone tell me where to purchase this scanner... The uniden sight does not even show they sell this product!

  • @uncfan2457 It was just announced. It should go on sale this fall.

  • My scanners will start scanning within milli-seconds from turning the power on. I don't want to set there and push a button many times before I get to hear what's going on after the alarms have already gone off. If I have to always download a database file before it does it's thing, I could have missed everything.

  • @Dodgem250 So will that one, but when you buy it and take it out the box I bet you can't fully program it from scratch in 3 mins

  • Does the database have to be reloaded each time you turn it on, or does it hold these files in memory.... my question list goes on and on.

  • @Dodgem250 Do you honestly think you would have to do that each time? Common sense please.

  • I too can not see this little box being of much value to most veteran scanner users, except for this "techies" who have to own one just because it's new. I see a lot of features missing which makes it quite impractical. The funny thing is, I lost interest in it within the first 1:30 of this video. Does this thing receive digital freqs? Does it offer manual programming? If it doesn't offer manual programming, it serves me no purpose here in Maryland.

  • @Dodgem250 Considering you dont get to see the full features of this radio, how can you make such conclusions? Common sense please. And it sounded like it was receiving digital.

  • @hoopztube With all do respect, I was asking questions regarding the operation of the unit that are directly related to questions not answered in the video. I did not draw any "conclusions" I merely asked questions regarding functions and features not stated clearly. Does it have to be reprogrammed every time you turn the thing on? I don't know, it doesn't say, that's why I asked. Instead of worrying about my common sense, I think you should pay more attention to what I said.

  • @Dodgem250 You may be one of the dumbest people I've seen on You Tube. That takes some kind of skill, and honestly, some pride should be taken for that.

Obviously Uniden would not manufacture a NEW scanner for $500 that does not offer the functionality of a typical scanner. All of your questions (which are fairly stupid), are easily answered by doing a search using a new fangled website called Google. And as clearly stated in the video, it IS APCO-25 capable. GED's are still on sale btw.

  • what is the price

  • Looks like a great little scanner, guess we will see how others like it also!!!

  • If this pulls only from the radioreference data base it won't do me any good! They don't broadcast anything from my local area. Nice product but not usable to me.

  • AWESOME!!

  • does it do trunked systems

  • Look like a GPS receiver and i dont like that you can not enter what you want. just refer to a database and the database is not complete some frequency missing i like to listen commercial frequencies not only emergency frequencies.

  • @ve2pem And you know this how?

  • @hoopztube i know because i use canadian section of the database Quebec,, Canada

  • Very nice! I wonder how user friendly the software will be with screen readers like JAWS? Has anyone at Uniden tried this out?

  • it pulls from the radio reference database! so you are incorrect 26cab40

  • And the beauty of it is ANY agency that does NOT want you listening can have those frequencies removed from the database and there is NOTHING you can do about it.

It will also report back to a remote server just what you HAVE been listening to.

    No thanks.

  • @26cab40 haha you have no idea what your talking about. RR is a collective database, agencies won't have stuff removed from it. if police don't want you listening they will simply use encrypted talkgroups like some already do.

  • Great I hope to be able to afford it.

    sounds AWSOME;.

  • What is the range on this "scanner"? You would still need to hook up a outside antenna for zips that are more than 50 miles away?

  • Outstanding! It's fantastic to see communications monitoring finally being made available to the masses. Looking forward to picking one up.
