So that everyone knows the New Sonic is still an AVEO and its still made in Korea whatever they can't put together in Korean it is shipped here to the do the final Assembly. Hopefully the Sonic wont be as cheap in and out as the AVEO.Time will tell if Chevy has game.
the 2002-2011 Chevrolet Aveo is assembled in China: Shanghai Colombia: Bogotá Ecuador: Quito India: Halol Kazakhstan: Ust-Kamenogorsk Mexico: San Luis Potosí Poland: Warsaw South Korea: Bupyong Thailand: Rayong Ukraine: Zaporizhia Vietnam: Hanoi
It's a decent car, but why not just buy a Cobalt? Pricing isn't much different, fuel mileage isn't much different, it looks better, it has more room, and the 2.2 gives way better horsepower than the 1.6.
@neostardust Why don't you buy a $150'000 Porche instead if you want to race instead of a small $12'000 Aveo. It is strange how you people think. I own a 2009 Aveo for the 3rd year now and it is a nice car & fun to drive in city... ofcourse I don't try to race with it cause it is not meant to be. period.
@MamoonKhader Perhaps you could point out where, in the comment I made 7 months ago, I suggested racing? I mentioned the test results. I'll be more clear. 12 seconds 0-60 is terrible because every other car in the segment does better, and because that rate of acceleration would be insufficient for highway merging (at least where I live). A TINY, light car like the Aveo with a stopping distance of 144 feet is abysmal. It's dangerously long for emergency stop. Consider what's between you and death
With respect, I know you didn't "say" race but your words imply it like "0-60 in 12 secs". Where I live; in Amman-Jordan; is full of ups & downs, hills, stop & go among all kinds of road conditions. I find driving my Aveo (1.4L automatic) is no issue and it can handle them decently. It can cope with the traffic on highway easily. I drove it for more than 300km/hr highway at a speed of ~120km/hr without pushing the pedal all the way .....
@neostardust ..... and at that speed it was full of passengers, trunk fully loaded and A/C is turned-ON so what can I ask for more at this price segment?. I handle it smoothly during my daily commuting, no harsh or drag racing, no pushing the engine to the limits, having it serviced on schedule and it is serving me well so I am happy aith it. BUT, some guys are used to drive larger engines demand more power from such a small engine and thus pushing it to the limits causing troubles
I usually can't find fault with newer GM's but this car is one of the worst cars I've ever test driven. I drove the 5 speed. The shifter was unrefined and the throw was too long. Its gearing is was too long given the engines torque requiring a downshift to 2nd even when carrying speed into a 90 degree right hand turn. I tried third but it bogged horribly. GM really could have done better with this car, they can start by getting rid of that stupid vent and those awful rear lights.
GM should be assamed to make this vehicle only 25 city 34 MPG on the highway? ppl can get 25 city and 32 HW from GM's own Impala that is faster and alot larger. Total shit car that shouldn't be considered at all.
my dad's neon get better fuel economy and take less than 11.8 seconds for 0-60..but still the car looks nice..but at least they should do something to ramp up power a little
I have owned my aveo for about 4 months and it is exactly what it is. it's a first timers or commuter car. I am in the military and I love driving this car every morning to work. I am 6'2 and I fit very well inside with room to spare. As for the traction, road noise, and stopping distance, that was easily fixed by getting new tires. The tires that this car came with were complete crap.
People say it sucks but it's a good car for short commutes on both road and highway. I, too, am in the military and I had this for a rental car for about 3 weeks. It got the job done with good gas mileage and taking me to work everyday.
@Motorfordtoyota Meh, Yaris is junk, too... I'd go with the Fiesta. Did a B&P for both the Fiesta 5dr and Yaris 5dr in their lowest trims (Fiesta SE and... the regular Yaris... had to be fair.) with options as similar as I could get them, even the paint (Red, which cost an extra $180 on the Fiesta), transmission (A/T, $1,070 extra on the Fiesta), and seat materials (black cloth). The Fiesta was still cheaper by a little under a grand, and it has two more gears and far superior quality and style.
I really love that interior. It looks classy and upscale, which is very hard to find in US sold subcompacts. Too bad it's wrapped in an ugly, cheap looking exterior.
Having done much research on 09 hatchbacks, I can say that the aveo5 really is about the same as any of the other ones out there. As for the mileage, all the regular gas hatchbacks got 31mpg combined or less that I saw. If you want bad mpg, look at mazda. The fit, yaris, and xd also get 29-31 mpg. One thing that chevy is better for than honda or toyota is the price. Honda and toyota will rarely move on the price, whereas chevy dealers will haggle far below sticker. Thousands under sticker.
Got mine for $3600 under MSRP last friday including the $1500 GMC discount (expires 9/30). Having driven it for about a week, it seems like a decent car. It's not a race car, but it has more pep than my 86 volvo. Stock stereo is better than I thought it would be. Highly recommend the LT trim with power package so you can have A/C, and power locks/windows. Haven't tried it yet, but I think the rear seats are easily removable by removing 2 snap rings (to get even more space in the back).
I would just appreciate it if you didn't get so cocky while typing and make a simple misspelling. It just makes you look like a dumb ass, so your only hurting yourself.
And by the way... it takes at least a quarter of a brain to spell "crap". Better luck next time douche bag!!
WOO HOOO!!! You finally realize that you were in a hurry.... hence why I told you to "take your time and check your spelling". Can you read AND comprehend that? I am beginning to wonder!
Rented one a couple months back in New Mexico. Drove several hundred miles around the state and had no problems cruising at 75-80. Good A/C, comfort, quiet ride. Cons: Miserable suspension and gets blown around in the wind. Buy one used, they depreciate like crazy!
I test drove this car and it is a little slow. You almost have to floor it when going onto a freeway. I hardly ever drive on the freeway and I do a lot of town driving. I also have a few friends and 2 dogs. I ended up buying the car. It is cute. I like it a lot. I plan on putting some performance upgrades on it and maybe put 17''s on it. Other than that, its a great car for a single dude in his late 20's. :)
It's all in what you compare it to. For the same price as a "Smart for 2," in the Aveo5 you get 2.5 times the interior and 10 more horses so you don't have to go home and get "the other car" for shopping.
For about the same price as a Honda VTX 1300T, in the Aveo5 you get 300cc more engine, a roof and 4 wheels.
They don't build Model T's, original Beetles, '79 Civics or Datsun 1200's any more and Tata Nano's won't be showing up here any time soon, so the Aveo5 is what I got and I like it.
i owned a 1987 toyota mr2, it also had a 1.6 4cylinder, but a made a 130hp at 7200rpm, it also had the same fuel econ. and it was 22 years older. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH AMERICAN CARS, this aveo is like the second gen of the chevette, except the only thing that made the chevette fun was it was rwd!
wow this car performs horribly...they need better braking power...and yeah 11.8 seconds to 60 is an eternity =( the cost for this car is cheap and so is the look. if you're in a budget i guess this is an ok car.
