@nathanbecker408 armour peircing has nothing to do with the cartridge. Its the bullet that is armour peircing. 308 = commercial variant of the 7.2x51. They are interchangeable. The only thing that is different is when you are reloading the 7.62 you have to be aware that the brass is a bit thicker so you will have higher pressures with the same amount of powder.

Cant say a lot about the 416 since Ive never used it. However, Ive run in to it in Norway a cuple of times and the only thing ive noticed is that i freezes quite easily in arctic conditions, like other AR15 derivates. Nice gun otherwise though it would seem, but I see it more fit as a police weapon rather than a military rifle.

With a 51mm cartridge you get more velocity then the M16 round and since it fires the same 7.62mm bullet as the AK you get similar ballistics when compared to the AK as well. However, when coupled with the 51mm case instead of the short and stubby 39mm case everything is enhanced: stopping power, penetration, and range.

Generally the larger round wins, due to its ability to penetrate cover (trees, concrete walls, etc etc). In Vietnam US Marines noted that Vietcong fighters were secured hiding behind trees, while they had to dig foxholes like mad to find decent cover.
