  • I love that someone at 3:21 said "Great Song"

  • Very Cool to hear!!!

  • This Is Fantastic..Thanks Man !!!

  • For the new Black Sabbath album, they should do a new version of the song that sounds like this. That would have been AMAZING!

  • we sailed through endless skies.

  • @Skaternick911 Stars shine like eyes.

  • @superfirren The black night sighs.

  • @LadyLuzaibach Silver-starlight.

  • did the drummer have to play?he kinda ruined the entire atmosphere.

  • @PanosOsbourne actually the title says it's a soundcheck, so the drummer does have to play...

  • What happened to good music like this.

  • black sabbath rules.

  • Best black sabbath song ever.

  • MARIJUANA IS AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Dio could sing every song from Ozzy-era, and more. Fact. He sang Ozzy stuff with different mood, but that doesn't mean he COULDN'T sing that.

  • @vengadorpancho He didn't sing "every" song from the Ozzy era, even Ozzy didn't do them all in concert. I saw the first tour with Dio, they had to perform Ozzy material because at the time all they had was H & H. The H & H stuff was great but songs like War Pigs, etc.. just didn't work imo.

  • @gl797 I didn't mean he sang every song originally performed by Ozzy, I mean he could sing anything from Ozzy era in terms of range. Just that.

  • @vengadorpancho Yeah I know what you meant..and he couldn't. Dio had a completely different voice than Ozzy. Do you really think he could sing "Megalomania"?

  • @gl797 Yes he could, with a completely different style! But I'm talking about range. He could sing up to G5 which is higher than Ozzy's highest note, F5. Besides Dio always managed high notes better than Ozzy, whose voice already cracks in much lower notes. In terms of vocal capabilities, he could sing it, but I understand that some people don't like his "mood" in those songs.

  • 14 years ago when i was 14 and i bought that album (paranoid) i was listening the whole evening again and again that song on my headphones...the whole evening until late at night i was stoned and completely in another universe, so many pictures and feeling inside me just from that song... .no drugs nothing !!! best song from black sabbath from me. best psychedelic song ever !!!

  • pop a beer, or take a shot, mellow out. close your eyes, and just flow. thank you for putting this on here for folks to enjoy.

  • @deboshadow No, just get at that "Sweet Leaf".

  • @69ofdoom can't. has the opposite effect on me.

  • @deboshadow weed?

  • @BlackPhoenix623 yep. think of an angry alcoholic in that respect. yet the reverse is true for alcohol, mellows me like a sack full of ludes.

  • @deboshadow Ok do what you must :-)

  • tony bourge budgie mhmm better

  • It's fuck amazing...

  • It's fucking amazing

  • Ah! I have been looking for a LIVE Version of Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath, but it seems like there is no other, perhaps ANYONE could help me with the search?

I would have loved to see a Re-union of Black Sabbath come to Sweden!

I saw Ozzy in Globen@Stockholm just a month ago, he did Paranoid, Iron Man, Fairies Wear Boots and Into The Void from he's old past, and he did it so good, and I was SO DRUNK, that if I were to die after the concert, I would've gladly done it after Ozzy! It's so GOOD!

  • @jovisst1 they should do this one live

  • THE STUDIO VERSION WITH EARPHONES YOU CAN HEAR THE PLANETS PASSING BY AND THE ECHO

  • @MiloSassy2010 I think that is some reverse tape echo and an echorec but I like your imagination;)

  • great !!!

  • Well, this is pretty much the best video on the internet

  • I'm chilled ! Excellent :) must go listen to original version now.

  • freakin love this....:D

  • That sounded so dramatic, amazing and emotional.

  • Thanks so much for uploading. This is why i love Youtube!

  • Thank u for posting this....Cheers

  • iommi is my hero

  • Thanks for posting this! You never hear this gem live very often.

  • love this song

  • i was there and heard this i would of shit my pants :D!

  • this is the highlight of my morning .. thank you

  • All Black Sabbath plays is just fantastic, rare versions or not

  • wasnt a bad cover, at all. its just a matter of opinion.

i personally like phil's voice on the record better than ozzy's, but that doesnt make either version worse than the other

  • ok ok the only reason why panteras version is popular is because PANTERA did it *DUH* and more kids listen to pantera than BS (unfortunately) but i dont like panteras version and ozzy didnt either because he rejected it from being put on the black sabbath tribute album. and honestly, the song is SO fucking good in the first place i dont see how someone could possibly do a bad cover of it anyway!

  • Did they end up playing this song in the actual Feb. 5 show?

  • No. This was not part of the set list for the show.

  • if anyone knows any songs that sound like this one with this mood let me know please

  • try pink floyd

  • @gobo360

Check out Maggot Brain by Funkadelic.

  • @musername1 that song is groovie

  • If you like the atmosphere of this song, try "Solitude" from BS's 'Master of Reality' album. You may also like "Bones of Babydolls" by Acid Bath, but it has a more modern sound, although trippy in its own way. "Planet Caravan" really stands alone though, as nothing else is so effective at evoking the uniquely celestial, psychedelic feeling. Pure genius!

  • Yes! Bones of Baby Dolls! I'm so glad you said that, haha. Acid Bath rules. It's all about Planet Caravan, B.OB.D., Space Cadet (Kyuss), Jail (Down), and Rotten Apple (Alice in Chains)

  • It's one of the few songs that actually makes me feel stoned WITHOUT weed.

  • hahahaha

  • sweet.......leaf,

  • @MurdFlum Dude for real. I felt high listening to it, almost as if the THC could be felt in the very air I was breathing.

  • @MurdFlum that's true

  • @MurdFlum

then try to imagine how this sounds WITH weed

first time i got stoned i played this song and its an experience on its own.

    its awesome.

    its black sabbath

  • Pantera is cool, but yeah, the mood Sabbath and Iommi brought to this song was just other worldly and beautiful.

  • @Myuralz

I think Sabbaths version is definately more dreamy. Only thing the Pantera version has on the original is the solo, but I doubt that's because Dimebag's got more soul. I think it's because he can simply solo better.

  • Eh, Dimebag was merely better technically, and the solo in the Pantera version reveals it. However, the Pantera solo does not effectively capture the psychedelic vibe, as compared to Iommi's. The Pantera version is good, but Phil's vocals sound more opiate-influenced than psychedelically-inspired. He really sounds to me like he is just moaning and salivating, like a wasted junkie.

  • @drubermensch

You answered my post, but seeing as I can't find my post because someone has deleted it or I'm just blind, I'm not sure what I said. But I'm going to ask you a question: Why does the Pantera solo "not effectively capture the psychedelic vibe"? Cause to me it did so. The vocals may have not done so, but the solo did imo.

  • thank you.

  • What do you guys think of the Pantera version? Being a huge fan I prefer it but just want to know your opinions. Check them out doing it live, Dime does it awesomely!

  • Yeah mate, I really like the Pantera version, im a big fan too, both versions are great but I prefer Pantera's cover. The live vid is awesome

  • I prefer Black Sabbath's version. For me, Pantera killed the mood of the song.

  • absolutely, somebody who understands music. Every artist to cover a sabbath song has failed because they have no clue how Iommi put mood and feeling into songs.

  • wow! idk how you got this but you have shared the most amazing jam ever of black sabbath!!!!! i love planet caravan and solitude but this is WOW!!!! too bad i was not born during that time but im glad im alive now to hear this over and over and over..... and over........ till i die.

  • Can't help but wonder why this number never made it further then the rehersal / soundcheck stage. It's a belting little song. Still thems the breaks. As for the confusion as to who sings the vocals on this I can understand. Heck, even the original studio version doesn't sound like Ozzy! It's different to anything else in his career. But theres no doubt about it, this is Ozzy singing.

Top find as usual blacksabfan. I'd love to know how you get hold of this incredibly rare material.

  • Umm dunno dude, but Planet Caravan is on Paranoid. Fail.

  • Who or what is being said at 3:18?

  • It sounds to me like it is ozzy saying "they come".

  • HOW IN THE HECK did you get a sound check recording?!? You are one very very lucky person!!!

  • Finally a live version of this track!!! Even if it is just a soundcheck, This is something I thought I would never hear in my lifetime, definately 1 of my top 5 favorite Sabbath tracks!!!!

  • Yeah it is ozzy. He can just sing that good when he wants to. I love all of his vocals but people always tend to bitch saying he cant sing. To me his was the best sabbath had as a singer Tony martin was wack and Dio was good but I was never a big fan. 70s sabbath is where its at.

  • who is the singer on planet caravan and solitude

  • Um...Ozzy.

I know it doesn't sound like it is, but it is. Turst me.

  • its geezer dude

  • No it's not....dude. Geezer never sang anything until he did back up vocals in "A Hard Road". He himself admitted as much.

  • yea i relized that after i posted it. but its not ozzy dude

  • It sure as hell is Ozzy. Stop arguing. And quit calling me 'dude'.

  • blacksabfan is right it IS ozzy on both those songs. No use arguing cause it is.

  • @oneleafd92 im sure its ozzy for planet caravan and geezer for solitude. but im almost 100% sure ozzy did not sing in solitude

  • I'm almost 100% sure you're wrong.

It's been well documented that Ozzy sang on both. Books are great.

  • i meant to say Bill ward. i always thought it was Ozzy who did. i was reading this article that said he refused to sing it. im not sayign im right but thats what i told. but ho cares who did or not. its a great song and thats a FACT!

  • Bill Ward sang on 'Swinging the Chain' because Ozzy wouldn't. Not Solitude.

And I care; I kind of don't like people saying stuff that's factually wrong on my channel. There's already enough people with bad information...exhibit you.

  • @blacksabfan perhaps you should chill out

  • Perhaps not?

Besides, I'm as chilled out as they come. Unless you're an idiot that likes to talk about stuff he knows nothing about. Or someone that can't find easily verifable facts before making ill-informed posts on my uploads.

Then again, you're probably one of those people that contribute nothing to YouTube, other than stupidass comments telling "the hand that feeds" that he needs to chill out. That's pretty damn smart there scooter...

  • you dont sound as chilled out as they come, if im being honest

  • You seem to be getting "chilled out" confused with "putting up with annoying bullshit"...or "putting up with people who stick their nose where it doesn't belong".

I mean do you actually contribute anything to YouTube, or do you just talk shit about stuff you know nothing about and interject when no one asked you to? Don't ignore me this time...it's a legitimate question, and much more important than if I'm 'chill' or not.

  • @blacksabfan hey man chill out and enjoy the music, for real

  • @plypayj3

So do you always comment on things that happened 5 months ago?

How about this, I could just remove this from YouTube, and then we can all NOT chill out. So, I'd shut the fuck up and watch who you're talking to.

  • @blacksabfan I am going too say it once more fucking chill out buddy no need for the anger, and for the record hell yeah I allways comment on comments that are five months old, .... peace

  • @plypayj3

You're confusing anger with my zero tolerance policy on idiocy.

And even if I was angry, what business is it of yours?

You'll gladly lap up the stuff I post, and demand more, more, more, but then turn around and tell me how I should be acting. I uploaded this, and I run my channel how I see fit. If you don't like it, then you can go fuck off.

And just because I told you to fuck off, doesn't mean I'm angry...another concept people don't seem to understand.

  • @blacksabfan You seem angry or upset. Perhaps you should try not being an uptight prick?

  • @plypayj3

Additionally, I'm not your buddy, and you sound like a dumbass hippie. "Chill out and listen to the crunchy grooves man!" Try this, instead of opening your stupid piehole everytime you find a comment that's halfway objectionable, despite the fact it doesn't pertain to you, and was made MONTHS ago and was OVER AND DONE WITH, you could, I don't know...maybe...shut the fuck up? Nevermind, that makes too much sense. Although maybe then, and only then, I would be able to "chill out".

  • @blacksabfan you're funny man thanks for the laughs, and now I will fuck off and leave you too chill

  • @plypayj3

And you're banned, because I find you not funny.

  • Books are great...I wish people still read them...I say that it doesn't matter who sings the song...what matters is who wrote it.

  • Great !

    Thanks again.

  • its just great.. thanx a lot for the post i was sure that they never perform this live.. Next song solitude right?

  • Sounds strange without the darkness of TV singing.

  • oh my good this is so ood

  • beautiful!

    thx for sharing

  • godly performance long live sabs /,,//,,/

  • Just awesome!!!!!!

  • Well, what can I say?! My youtube-name speaks for itself.

    Brilliant, simply brilliant.

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Why don't they play this ? Imagine if DIO got ahold of it. That would be bad ass.

  • Dio could never pull off this incredible song with his voice. He'd make it so cheesy. But to be fair, Ozzy wouldn't be able to anymore either.

  • That's an excellent point. Iommi's later singers would tend to oversing and melodramatize. The dreamy beauty of "Planet Caravan" and stark loneliness "Solitude" were not only not spoilt by Ozzy's melody lines and voice, but were enhanced. Ahh, there's nothing like 70's era Sabbath!

  • Damn straight.

  • @NuclearGuru350 If you think about it... imagine Dio's soft voice on Catch the Rainbow. I think he could do it.

  • THAT WOULD RULE

  • magikill

  • Welcome back, sir. Just awesome. I knew they did this at one point, but I have never had the chance to hear it.

  • I rarely listen to this song, and I forgot how awesome it.

  • this is great.

  • DAMN! they should have played it live!

  • Awesome recording. Thanks again

  • very sweet recording, chillout music
