In MMA you have to worry about clinching, takedowns, throws, strikes from the hands and feet, knees, elbows, the works. And no shit MMA fighters cant box as well as a BOXER, because BOXERS solely train TO box. MMA has a lot of other styles and technqiues to learn.

Chuck Lidell has always been one of my top favorite MMA fighters, coz I appreciate his approach: Standing Up, Toe-to-toe fighting. And most times, he'll let a guy get up just so he can drop him again.
He seems like a genuine guy. I think I could get along with a guy like Chuck Lidell.

Pacquiao & Liddell share the same birthday (Dec 17). Disappointing to all boxing fans is the 2nd failed attempt at making the Pacquiao Mayweather fight a reality. Floyd failed to sign the contract for a second time and as a result, has been branded in most circles as a coward. He sez ol this shit abt pac being a a one dimensional fighter but has gotten cold feet twice when it comes down to proving it. Floyd's fight record don't mean squat until he steps up and starts mixing it with the best.

They are the best of the best in what they do, MMA fighters are just mediocre in what they do, look who's the heavy weight champion, a 1 dimensional, former pro wrestler who defeated Randy Couture, the so called legend with 12 loses (embarrassing), and defeated Shane Carwin. Look man, it isnt totally necessary to adopt a boxing striking style to MMA. Why? Because its MMA. In MMA you have to worry about clinching, takedowns, throws, strikes from the hands and feet, knees, elbows, the works. A boxer can put a lot of power behind his strikes, because he doesnt have to worry about getting taken down, etc.
And no shit MMA fighters cant box as well as a BOXER, because BOXERS solely train TO box. MMA has a lot of other styles and technqiues to learn.

The majority of "top" boxers have their records padded to make themselves seem "elite". Mayweather is a good example.

And these UFC fighters are not from the streets. Cro Cop used to be in K-1. Shane Carwin is a full time engineer. Shogun Rua used to be in a modeling agency. The list goes on.

@MobiusX Thye're legends because they were the champs that helped the sport grow. And obviously the sport is still growing. Alsmost nobody in the UFC has trained MMA since they were young, so obviously they will tend to use there comfortable backgrounds.

MMA is the closest combat sport towards a real live or die street fight. Boxing is incorporated within MMA shit face.. along with all other effective combat styles. to all you people hating on boxing all i gotta say is do you think the toughest heavy weight in mma would go toe to toe against tyson? and the answer being? we will never know. cause it wont happen. boxing is all about stand up, so hypothetical speaking; a boxer and a mma fighter ever do get into a fight. the mma guy could throw a kick but the boxer could see a clear opening and go with the right/left hook or an uppercut. my point being you cant say who would win cause it could go either way.

you obviously know little to nothing about boxing if you honestly believe BJ Penn can beat Floyd Mayweather Jr in a BOXING match with BOXING rules. dont get me wrong, i have a TON of respect for BJ and what he's accomplished in the UFC. but to say he's a better boxer than one of the BEST boxers of all time is simply asinine. @DopeFreshAndFilipino, hhmmm not sure if i can agree with that. i can vouch from experience,well the small comparative experience i have :), that the grappling is absolutely exhausting and requires a different type of fitness... i did thai for two years and was pretty fit, i could last 4-5 3 minute rounds. i recently started an mma class.. i couldn't last a minute grappling at the start...still cant :).
its like lifting weights then trying to punch again
