@shaanlone786 if you are going to use static IP for your PS3, you want to choose an IP address that is *outside the range* of your router's DHCP addressing range...

Generally. for the 4th octet in the static IP address, that would be a higher number, say from .200 to .250 (stay away from the numbers beyond .250, trust me, don't push it).

Example: If your router/gateway's IP address is 192.168.1.1,

a good Static IP address might be: 192.168.1.205

i.e. 192.168.1.[ # outside-range ]

@xDaReArDoNz you can either place the static IP of your PS3 in the DMZ on your router, or you can create a port forwarding rule (a specific set of ports) in your router, to be used applied to the static IP you created for your PS3. You can fine the ports online, do a keyword search "PS3 Ports"

a good static IP address would be 10.0.0.236

@fuckknorretje If you can't join a person's lobby then they don't have a Nat type 1. Nat type 1 is open meaning ANYONE can join no matter if it's open (type 1), moderate (type 2), or strict (type 3). So, if you try to join a lobby or accept a invite and you can't get in then it's because that person has a strict type 3 nat and they need to take these steps. The way it works a Type 3 can only join a type 1 party or another type 3, type can only join type 1 or other type 2's. Type 1 can join any.

@Guevera82 If you have Nat Type 2 (moderate nat) then you can join anyone with Nat 1 (open nat) or Nat 2 but you can't join Nat 3 (which is strict). So chance's are you friend's have strict nat types which is why you can't join.

A message to everyone that had problems with this, i watched feasters tutorial but it didnt work for me, i found out to fix it, heres the trick: when you put your dmz in your providers website, the '192.186...etc' make your last number 110 and make you default router the same as your primary and secondry number, to find out your default number go to run > type: cmd > then type : ipconfig. once you do all this in your internet connection setting do NOT test it. save then restart your ps3.

hey dude I just got a ps3.. been playin a xbox360 for quite some time.. I had trouble with my laptop and ps3 conflicting with the same IP address, Ive been lookin and it seems the best way to go (other than turning off my laptop while i play) is the static IP address, but your notification about the WEP Key thing kinda scared me. If I make a static IP address when will I be asked for the WEP Key by the ps3? Also if I make a static IP address & it doesnt work, is it possible to reset to default?

@sidman2424 web key is the encrypted password to the network which u are trying to use. its for security purposes so that not just anyone gets into that network. if u dont know it then it wont let u connect to the network. its better if u just have the ether net cable connected to the router of that net work if its lets the the one for ur parents house. once ur connected u can usually get the ip adress and etc of the network ur plugged into via that ether net cable. i forget where exactly
