  • I want to see her play Lucy in Jekyll and Hyde so badly! She'd be amazing!

  • She looks so much like Rachel McAdams. Amazing voice!

  • amazing! im bringing this to an audition with me...wont be as good as this however!

  • this is the best interpretation of this song on youtube! for sure

  • lei è davvero fantastica, prima d'ora non avevo mai sentito una voce così simile al mio ideale di voce femminile. Una grande grande artista. Brava!

    Saluti dalla Sicilia!

  • I wish I could be like Ursula in the Little Mermaid and steal her voice!

  • DAM REPLAY BUTTEN!

  • I love her voice! Very touching!

  • Shes great!

  • 色々動画あるみたいだけどこれが一番好き。

    以前劇場で観劇したのとイメージ近いからかな・・・。

  • This is a truely beautiful interpretation of a wonderful song!! I´ve listened to it many times, and can´t fault it!

  • Why do I think "I'll Forget You".....:p

    Damn I love Rachel

  • THIS IS SO GOOD.

  • omfffgggggggggggggggggg <3

  • Wow!...what a voice, best version I have ever heard.

  • i go to the muscial in two weeks :)

  • Singing this tomorrow at NYSMMA Solo singing competition :)) Praying I do well.

  • First of all, she's acting in the play "Kiss Me Kate,'" so I'm certain the director of the play influenced the manner in which the scene played out. Secondly, Rachel voice is great in the lower registers; strong and powerful. However, her voice thins out and she strains with those high notes. Lara Fabian, set the bar, and so far (IMHO) no one can top her!

  • wow i love this .. cole porter is just the best <3

  • Knox my sox off.

  • De-Lovely!

  • There hasn't been anything like this since...well...since Cole Porter. Pity.

  • Rachel York has a great voice but I prefer when Kathryn Greyson sings it!

  • shes soooooooo great!!!

  • Rachel York is incredible, but I never would've known about her had it not been for this production on youtube. she should be more popular; best Lili/Kate I've seen, and best version of this song. (and I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks she looks like Rachel McAdams.)

  • @JackieBorelli OMG I know...I saw this production on DVD at my College(Musical Theater course) and I fell in love with not only the musical, but Rachel's performance...When I finally got the chance to see the movie, katherine grayson, while eternally beautiful did not in my opinion measure up vocally.

  • I like this version but in the context of the musical the operetta one works better because it's more overblown, rather like the two luvvies who ought to be lovers. It is a comic musical, don't forget.

  • ASTOUNDING!!!

  • I love her she is absolutely brilliant and too underknown!!! she needs to be a mega star!!!!!!!

  • I love this interpretation of one of the most beautiful songs of the great Cole Porter.

  • Not only are Rachel York's performance as Kate and her interpretation of this song absolutely wonderful, but she is an absolutely gorgeous woman.

  • Rachel York was the perfect "Kate" if ever there was one. What a great voice. Such a sense of drama. I never tire of watching this version of the show!

  • She played Reno Sweeney before. I would have loved to seen in that role.

  • I played Hattie wen i was 14 best craic eva!!!!!!!

  • what key is this in?

  • A less Operatic voice.... But entirely fabulous. This is one of the best recordings I have heard though quite different from the most popular version as sung by Kathryn Grayson. Lovely voice. The voice is about expression and interpretation of song... This woman has a great gift!

  • Excellent artist! Well produced voice used with taste - and an actress! A class act!

  • Love this song...It accurately depicts being in love with someone...Cole Porter wrote such beautiful lyrics as well...

  • I love the way Ms York sings this song. Exactly as it should be sung. I think it is the best I have heard so far! Her voice is very beautiful and adds to the meaning behind the song.

I am a BIG Cole Porter fan--and a Hoosier as well. Thank you for posting this lovely version of this song.

  • pretty song

  • So beautiful...and SUCH a perfect way of explaining being in love with someone...So taunt me and hurt me deceive me desert me; I understand that line so well...it speaks to me the most.

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Miss York perform this in Boston. I have been following her career and can't understand why she isn't a Broadway legend. The reason, of course, is that no one is writing shows for our true leading ladies anymore.

  • what key is this in?

  • @casee079 F Major

  • I'm looking for a version of this musical with Italian subtitles, can u help me? please.....

  • beautiful lady with beautiful voice

  • I remember Rachel played Marguerite in Frank Wildhorn's scarlet pimpernel...she's truly gifted :D

  • very beautiful

  • I LOVE her. This really is a splendid version of this beautiful song. Cole lives in my heart.

  • i love this song... will be singing it for NYSMA in june!

  • @jessieforever18 I was going to sing it, but I sang alto instead for some weird reason. Oh well.

  • Better than the movie version. Rachel captures the intended emotion of the song.

  • Even without you

    My arms fold about you.

    You know, darling why,

So in love with you am I.

In love with the night mysterious

The night when you first were there.

In love with my joy delirious

When I knew that you might care....

  • I SAW THIS :D & MET HERRR<3

  • By far, the best version of this song!!! She captures the true essence of the character and the song. Thanks for posting!

  • how damned beautiful she is!! I love her new role of Cruella de Vil in the musical The 101 Dalmatians <3

  • Lovely song. Shame about the sub titles especially since she sings so clearly. However this is subjective as the subtitles might help non-english speakers. Many thanks for posting it.

  • i cry each time i listen to this

  • Does anybody know which key this is sung in? I've found a site that has this piece, but it's not the same version as the one sung here; thankfully, the site can transpose the sheet music--I just don't know what key this version is in. Many thanks for anyone who's kind enough to help. c:

  • o. 5 - thats what my sheet says. we are doing this play and this is what that said i dont know if thats what key is. so here if thats right!

  • f minor

  • @EtoileIvoire shes singing this in D minor at least thats the chord it begins with

  • i'm auditioning for kate with this song. after listening to rachel york sing it, i don't think i could...

  • @singnegyprincess, good luck with your audition. I did this musical back in high school, it was tons of fun. I suggest that if you're having doubts about being able to pull off the part that you just watch more of Rachel York and others and try to emulate the things they do that you like. Get in front of a mirror and practice singing the song or monologue you're preparing.

  • thanks, serotonergic. I'll definitely be doing that until the auditions. I've been having friends and family judge my performance, but I guess I'm my own worst critic, so the mirror idea would definitely help. and i've looked up other performances of this song by other people, and i really think she does it best, though some others have really good ideas that i'm trying to adopt. thanks again!

  • i can't stop watching this

  • Excellent. Upper but excellent!!!

  • WHOA.

    She teleported.

  • mmmi love tis song in a lower pitch like she has here. =D

  • She's amazing but she's singing it several steps lower than the original.

  • She is probably a mezzo soprano. That' why.

  • I prefer this arrangement to the original. I think it's more sultry and emotional than the operetta style. Arranger/orchestrator Don Sebesky won a Tony for his work on this revival. He made the music more accessible to a contemporary audience, IMO. And Rachel's interpretation is divine.

  • There is no doubt that the interpretation is impressive but the original version is equally good. Sorry but the argument about the jazz version being "tmore accessible to a contemporary audience" is nonsense. It is just a different version.

  • To each his own.

  • cause shes an alto

  • Gorgeous Song, gorgeous woman and absolutely gorgeous vocals

  • chilling, amazing, BEAUTIFUL

  • whats her vocal range?... i saw her in reagle players hello dolly she was incredible!!

  • I know, she can sing anything! I've read interviews where she says that she has a 3.5 octave range. LOVE HER.

  • I have listened to this over and over all day long.

    I lovee Rachel's voice!

  • GOD. she is phenomenal

  • oh my god! legend! i've never heard of her but she's AMAZING wooooow!!!!! :O x

  • wow, freakin powerful

  • BRAVO, RACHEL, BRAVO!

  • 2:16 she like does a quick move :O

  • for some reason the video just skips over..i noticed that too lol ..I <3 RACHEL!!!!

    X)

  • I saw Rachel perform today in the musical 'Hello Dolly". She sounds so much more amazing in person :)

  • Amelia-i can relate to this song so well, and Rachel York is an amazing singer who can easly potray some one who is in love and then hurt... but yet she will always love this one man, no matter what. Every singer should be able to potray emotion in their singing like her.

  • i love dat girls voice she can sing i heard the same song but this fat lady sang it (no ofense) and she soundee like a man. it was sooooooooo not good. rachel is rocking that thang like oh oh oh. lol

  • one of the best all-time love songs !!!!

    cole porter is fantastic !!!!

  • is she singing this in her chest voice?

  • up to like a c, I think - but above there's just such a smooth transition. she has a good mix.

  • C? Holy cow- that's a great place to have your chest voice end. Mine goes to like A...D:

  • Luvvvvvvvvvvv itttttt! She is amazing for god's sake! I love cole Porter and this is an excellent perfomance of one of his bests songs...

really awesome, well, she's rachel york! we could expect it!

  • B-E-A-utiful! I want to learn this song!

  • What a beautiful song. This was new to me so a lovely discovery.

  • Rachel York's voice gives me goosebumps. She is exceptional in every way. She needs to go back to broadway.

  • Absolutely!

  • How is it degrading?

  • Comment removed

  • I swear, the only reason she was in the revival of Kiss Me, Kate was to make people jealous with her gorgeous voice. :(

  • And to display her INCREDIBLE acting skills. She was amazing in this performance. Stunning.

  • I looove this song.

I wish I could sing it...

  • so taunt me....and hurt me....deceive me,desert me!

  • i love the power behind her voice :)

  • I was so surprised at how good she was. I first listened to her from the soundtrack for The Scarlet Pimpernel, and I think putting on an accent made her a little off. But without it, you can really get how brilliant she is

  • I can't believe she plays Marguerite! You are so right, the accent did not show her true voice, however, I did love her on Storybook...

  • She is insanely talented!

I've been obsessed with her since last January when I saw her in Camelot!

  • what beauty. what a magnificant voice and superb intrpretation of this classic. makes people who listen to rap music totol idiots.

  • Rachel York is the best Lilli. And she's pretty fabulous as Marguerite in Pimpernel too! She needs to get her ass back to broadway!

  • Perfect! Absolutelly perfect!!!!!!!!! She is great singer and actress!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I first saw Rachel York on Broadway in 1995. Years later, I saw her in the National Tour of "Kiss Me, Kate" with Rex Smith at 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle, WA. (2001). I FINALLY met Rachel in 2007 at an after show party for "Camelot." She had just given a full performance, probably was hungry for food, and she had a conversation with me for about 20 minutes. She was so down to earth and kind. I recall we chatted about our pets. Rachel is a darling angel.

  • rachel york is sooooooooooooo gorgeous! and that voice!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love her!!!

  • Wow. Sheer loveliness. This is the power of live theater that you cannot get from film. Beautiful singing from Ms. York and gorgeous lyrics from the master of romance and seduction- Cole Porter. And the final staging and zoom-in on Lili and Fred almost touching each other from opposite dressing rooms is bewitching. Thank God for stage performances captured on (almost) live television.

  • Of course, I meant Carolee Carmello! Carolee Campbell was on The Doctors I think!

  • Best rendition of this song I've ever heard and I've heard alot. Rachel York is the perfect Lilli Vanessi. I saw Carolee Campbell in NYC and she was good, too, but Rachel's the best so far!

    jon

  • I love Rachel's voice. Now my question is she french? in real life.

  • no, just a really great actress, and performer (and 2 be honsest i dont think its fair 2 even call her that because she is SO much more then that)

  • Is Rachel in that new comcast commercial? Ever since I saw it I can't be 100% sure but I'm about 99% on it.

And then Aaron Lazar was in that other one, so it seems they are pulling from the Broadway community...

  • Hey, I saw that Comcast commercial with Rachel, too! Three of them, actually. Multi-tasking, girls night out, and Tina's team. Haven't seen Lazar's yet. Good for them.

  • Yeah, Aaron's in one of those ones talking about that switch when all TV signals are going digital and older sets will need one of those converters.

    Thanks for confirming!

  • Very cool. I'll have to pay attention. Thanks for the details.

  • wat comcast commercial...if i saw it i cood tell yew

  • Just saw Kiss Me Kate at the Papermill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ and discovered this great Cole Porter tune. She sings it beautifully but the video looks like a lipsynch or out of synch with the audio.

  • Definitely not a lip synch. This is from the PBS airing of the London staging of the Broadway revival. Rachel's divine!

  • Who plays Fred?

  • Brent Barrett

  • This is a very beautiful version of this great song.

  • I have always loved "Kiss Me Kate" from the first time I saw the 1950's movie production starring Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson and the amazing Ann Miller. Rachel York is the first person I have seen since that absolutely does the part of Lilli Vannessi and Kate justice. Absolutely phenominal... loved it, loved it, loved it!!

  • what an amazing performance!!

    she is really charismatic!!!!

and what is left to say about Cole Porter's music?so moving!!!

  • is this broadway?

  • "A live performance of the 1999 revival, taped in London in the theatre in which it was staged, and in front of a live audience." says imdb

  • I'd like to buy this - do you know where they sell this taping? (in London preferably)

  • same!

  • It's online at Barnes and Noble and Amazon. You can also get it thru PBS (maybe the BBC in London?). Rachel York is magnificent - an absolute Broadway Goddess!

  • I've found this from London HMV's, Dress Circle and that shop which used to be called Virgin.

  • she sings it exactly the way it supose to be sung

she tops them all by far!

  • She did the best i think.

  • phenomenal !! as a student of porter's music, i've heard plenty of renditions of this song that cover the entire "quality" range. suffice to say, i have not heard better.

  • i am totally agree with you...

  • Her voice is so beautiful, and so is she. I love Rachel York. Where is this DVD available?

  • It's available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and PBS. Her website has a whole page of CDs and DVDs of hers, with links to where you can buy them. It's rachel york dot net.

I agree. Hers is the best version of this song EVER. Period. She's a wonderful talent.

  • her voice blows me away...

  • She is Kate and also she is Lilli Vanessi.

  • Is she playing Bianca or Kate?

  • This is great! Rachel was great! But what version is this!

  • This is from the PBS Great Performances. It's available on DVD. It was filmed in London.

  • Oh! Was she in any of the broadway versions or something!

  • She was in the national tour of the Broadway revival with Rex Smith, then she did the London tour with Brent Barrett after Marin Mazzie and Carolee Carmello left. Lucky us that PBS filmed it with Rachel!

  • I'm singing this for NYSSMA and i love it. Shes so good!

  • W O N D E R F U L

  • no está mal, pero tampoco es la gran cosa. le sigue ganando K.d Lang.

  • Rachel York es la voz mas hermosa del planeta!

  • Wonderful!

  • Five stars whithout doubt. Incredible performance!

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Amazing... So In Love is such a challenging and emotionally wracking song to sing... And she's wonderful.

  • yes the actress sings this song at the 50s musical, but lyric is a bit different.

  • This is stunning.

Is all of thsi in the film? The ninteen fifty-odd film?

I don't remember all of the song, onlt the "So Taunt me, and hurt me, decieve me, desert me, I'm yours 'til I die, so in love with you am I" bit.

    I could be wrong though.

    =]

  • This version is from the 2003 PBS Great Performances of Kiss Me, Kate that is available on DVD. Rachel York is my absolute favorite performer! For those of you who asked who she is, check out her website - rachelyork dot net. She is a major Broadway star who also played Lucille Ball in the CBS movie of the week LUCY a few years ago.

  • Brava! That was amazing!

  • i love Rachel, she is simply amazing, she has fantastic range and gets so into her parts! if anyone has more clips of her please upload!!!!!

  • Cole Porter... As he was at first arranger for some orchestras, he turned out to be the greatest composer of Swingtime Area... Deep and so sweet melodies. I even shiver, hearing this interpretation. One of his best composings. Mrs York... Mr Porter will look to you, also if he has died. Simply great!

  • A wonderful rendition who is Rachel York?

Such a emotive version of one of my very favourite Cole Poters love songs and boy he sure wrote a few a talent never to be repeated

  • Yes,great job,sounds beautiful.Has all the passion Porter intended.Five Stars....

  • This is the first time I've ever heard Rachel York sing, and I think she is fantastic! What a talent! She has the female lead in the national tour of Camelot this summer for anyone who wants to go see her.

  • Rachel is great in this part. I saw her in Kiss Me Kate with Rex Smith in the lead male role. It was just amazing! I love Rachel's version of I Hate Men. She just seethes hatred.

  • yay!! i love her she is so amazing at this song, she has such good range and she is great at playing a lot of very diffrent parts, if anyone has more clips please upload!

  • She's fantastic, and the song is one of my favourite Cole Porter songs :)

  • One of the best love songs ever written! She does a beautiful job!

  • She is one of the greatest I've aver heared

and she is amazingly versatil as an actress

  • please if anybody have more Rachel York videos upload them!!!!

  • Wonderful voice and range. Would have enjoyed hearing her keep this song a little more legit. She has the technique, just chooses a different approach. Incredible talent though.

  • Does any have any more Rachel York video's?
