  • Lars have ride cymbal-7:18 3:58 5:01 5:22 5:58 6:06 6:32 6:36 7:40 8:43 9:00 9:14-all photos with alcohol (AlcoholicA) , and they kick off Dave 'cos he drink TOO OFTEN ?!
  • @thorgal70 They kicked him out because Dave got nasty when drunk, and they were always drunk

  • he sounded like a bitch in 82

  • dave didnt sing FFS

  • i think there are some good songs on load and reload but they should have just picked about 10 songs out of the 25 or 30 that's on the 2 recordds and just made one record. that's why they're so shitty they made a bunch of songs most of which were crap and actually released them. they should have narrowed it down to 10 songs or so like their good albums and it might have been an ok album...still nowhere near the old shit tho...death magnetic is pretty good...fast progressive and long songs...

  • its hard to believe its been almost 30 years since some of these photos.

  • Holy crap the sound quality is killing me.

  • The good old days. Man music has changed so much. Sad actually.

  • nice one

  • @CarbineGuy I agree what you said about the guitarist thing. And I also like that you put "an amazing guitarist" instead of the most amazing guitarist

  • who cares about that shit. watch the video and shut up. bunch of whining bitches!

  • FAKE!!

  • mam, metallica sounded awful with Mustaine ... like a yelling cry baby...

  • this is james not dave singing

  • After their black album, they started to suck dick, I think it was their producer Bob Rock that amde them all alternative and shit.

  • True!

  • bob rock produced the black album.

  • @Euroliite yes I too think it was bob cock i mean rock that made them change like that...it's a funny thing 3 out of the 4 albums they did with bob rock SUCK. ecspecially st anger. they got worse as they went. the black album was good and still a little heavy he hadn't fully transformed the band into crap cuz that was the first album he produced...load got worse..reload was jjust mainly leftovers from the load session...it's a funny thing when they get rid of bob rock death magnetic comes...

  • "kirk hammett is a better shredder than mustaine"

Kirk Hammett can't shred. If you, by shred, mean playing faster than you can handle then yes, Kirk is a Shred-god. Otherwise, he is a fantastically sloppy guitarist. Hetfield and Mustaine are two of the tightest guitarists ever. The both can "shred" a lot better, since they both know how to play smooth. Kirk is a really poor guitarist with a very unmusical vibrato. He just hits random strings and drench the noice with his Wah.

  • Haha "Random Strings". You do not know what you're talking about. And WAH cannot make a guitarist any better or worse, it is an external factor in sound, and everyone who MUST find a way to dislike Kirk, uses the same excuse, and it's a terrible excuse. Learn something about guitar before you speak down on an amazing guitarist.

  • If you use a wah too much, you suck. Plain and simple.

  • Explain how? Using a wah makes no difference on how you play the actual instrument itself. In fact, in an attempt to replicate a song correctly, using the wah just right at the rights time while playing an instrument is more difficult than just playing guitar. You're very wrong. Using Wah cannot make ANYONE worse.

  • It's pretty simple, I don't know why you can't grasp what I'm saying. If you use it way too much, it must suck if it's "TOO MUCH". If you ruin the song because of your wah pedal, you suck. You've made the choice to suck by ruining the song.

  • Um, haha, no it doesn't have to "suck" Kirk has said that its just part of his personality and playing style to use the wah, he likes it, and so do other people. If you think it sucks without wah, why are you looking this up? Unless you go play it yourself without wah you'll never know. Get over it.

  • That's not what I'm saying at all. If you can read, you'd understand that all I'm saying is that it is possible to "suck" because you use too much wah.

  • No, it's not. You're missing what I'm saying. You can't just go from good to "suck" because of a pedal. Get off the band wagon and learn.

  • Okay, so if I had a gig, and you heard I was this great acoustic guitarist, and you showed up, and I had an electric-acoustic, and I plugged it into a distortion pedal, you wouldn't think I sucked for using it? A pedal can completely change the context of your music thus the possibility of it making you suck.

  • No, if you're music was good, would I care? No, good music is good music. Aside from that, I, and anyone with decent knowledge of Kirk's playing, know how well Kirk can play, and just because he uses wah doesn't make him suck, nor his music. The situation of misunderstanding an artists music style that you give doesn't apply.

  • I'm not actually saying "Kirk sucks because he uses a wah" you know... I'm just defending the right to say somebody sucks because they use "too much wah". Kirk's playing (on "One" in particular) had a big hand in changing my life. All I'm saying is that "using too much wah" is a legitimate reason to say a guitarist sucks.

  • I'm not talking about just Kirk either. It makes no sense at all to say that for ANY artist, and my previous comments state that. Read before you make me repeat myself.

  • I was just throwing the Kirk thing out there, since he's the guy mentioned here.

  • Yeah and now you've lost your original argument and now you're telling me you're "just throwing that out there"? I'm sure. My points been proven, wah can't make you suck.

  • You haven't proven anything. Try to play every song you know with your wah and tell me it doesn't suck.

  • Because if it wasn't made with the FUCKING wah it wont sound good! How dumb can you be? If it was MADE with wah, replicating that song will sound best with wah. Playing country WONT SOUND like the country.

How fucking dumb can you be? I've told you, using wah doesn't make you suck, and I've stated my reasons, and you have none.

  • HAHAHAHAHA! What are you talking about man?

To sum it up, all I'm saying is that using too much wah, or too much of anything for that matter, can make you suck, and you're talking about sounding like the country or something.

  • How does it make you suck? You havent given me one good reason. What youre telling me is that you yourself just dislike wah. you have no reasons, and if you take the time to think and read my posts youd understand what im saying.

  • Where did I say I dislike wah? I have a Dunlop Original Crybaby and it's my most used pedal (I have roughly 12 pedals). I'm just supporting the argument that one CAN suck for over-using it. That's it. Just like somebody can suck for over-using fret-tapping, artificial harmonics, or any other effect or technique, hence the term "over-using". Too much of anything sucks, that's why it's "too much", get it?

  • You're argument that using too much of something can, physically, "make you suck" has now changed? Like I said, the actual skill of the player has nothing to do with an effect that simply alters the sound. Same with any other technique, they cannot make you suck, or take away from your talent.

  • No, my argument hasn't changed. Whether or not somebody sucks has nothing to with talent. It's about the art of it. Steve Vai sucks, old Misfits ruled, yet Steve Vai has 100 times the talent as the entire band of the Misfits. I never said "...physically make you suck". Talent isn't what art is about. If you want talent, go watch a juggler.

  • You're telling me that playing guitar isn't a talent? I don't give a shit if you like it or not, and I'm sure most people don't, but if you have talent to play the guitar, you just can't suck because someone says you do, or, in your stupid ass argument, you use a wah pedal.

  • Man you don't get anything I'm saying... I just told you, Steve Vai has tons of talent, so yes, playing guitar can be a talent. But you don't need talent to make good music. My point was, f*** talent, because I'd rather hear a "talent-less" band like The Misfits than Steve Vai any day of the week. Talent has no place in this argument.

I never said anybody sucks for using a wah pedal. I USE A WAH PEDAL. I'm saying if you ruin a song because you over-used the wah pedal...

  • ... or you use it when it shouldn't be used, you suck for that. Then you've made that part of the song suck.

I've said about 10 times by now, my argument is that "overuse of a wah pedal" in a guitarist's arsenal can indeed, make him suck.

  • you have said many times that "wah can make you suck", which is not true. and saying that talent is nothing leads me to believe that you are just plain retarded and know nothing of music.

  • Yeah, I've said it many times and you still can't get it through your head. It's all about context.

Talent doesn't necessarily make great music, that's all I'm saying about that. Sometimes lack of talent makes a band good. I listen to music for the creation, the art. You probably listen to it and think about techniques. Like, "gee, forget soul". I know a lot about music, actually, and I'm very particular about my technique and all the nuances.

  • My God I never thought someone could be so stupid...you know nothing of music. I'm going to end it there. You're lack of knowledge for what you are telling me you know is incredible...

  • Back it up. You can't.

  • "You're lack of knowledge"... YOUR lack of knowledge of the English language dismisses YOUR argument.

  • Oh sorry I must be the first human to make a spelling error on youtube. Trying to find something else to fight about, besides your own shitty argument cause you lost? Like I said, learn...

  • What have I lost? You're the one making assumptions that I know nothing about music and can't back that statement up. You simply cannot grasp the simple concept that over-usage of any particular artistic tool warrants the right of an individual to have a negative opinion on an artist. That's basically what this debate is about. Is it not? Then, you throw in this thing about talent and skill which is irrelevant in this context. You've got absolutely nothing.

  • Dude I remember you... I think we had adiscussion on Metallica a long time ago. Is that your hobby?

Going youtube looking for someone to pick a fight?

  • You're the one who remembers me. I have no clue who you are. My hobbies include: music/heavy metal, science - especially paleontology, collecting things, playing guitar, going to shows/concerts, movies - especially horror, books/magazines, etc.

I don't come on here to pick fights at all. But as an occasional passtime, I'll check some videos out, view the comments from time to time, and either leave one myself or respond to one.

  • It is really easy with Metallica fans though. All you have to do is leave a somewhat negative comment on them, and you've got a dozen or so fanboys crying "Ur Dumb man!". And you say I'M the one picking fights?

  • Dude, fine, I know what you´re getting at.

I just find it interesting that we had a very long and very hard discussion on Metallica, and now I watch another video and you obviously did the same thing with s.o. else.

    But thats perfectly ok, seriously.

This place would suck if everyone had the same opinion.

  • This argument with this guy was over whether or not the over-usage of a wah pedal warrants somebody "sucking" or not, haha. So it wasn't in any way a "let's bash Metallica" thing. In fact, I'm wearing a Garage Days Re-revisited shirt right now ; )

  • I read through this quickly, and from guitar-playing-Metallica-fan to another, you are right.

    This time ;-)

    Metal up your ass!

  • Hey I'm always right. Ever notice though, Youtube debates always go so far off course that half the time you don't even remember what the debate was about in the first place?

  • Yeah, at times they do.

And I hope that first sentence was a joke!

  • Well what I mean is, I wouldn't argue a point if I didn't feel it was valid. Hey, since you're a Metallica freak, have you ever checked out Diamond Head?

  • yea you are about as dumb as dirt. so shut the fuck up.

  • Another intelligent remark from the Window Lickers' Academy.

  • It is evident that there would not have been a metallica without Dave Mustaine's chops. Get over it, all you Metallisheep.

  • He may have written the earliest stuff. But regardless of that fact he still had nothing to do with Metallica's best album, "Master of Puppets."

  • actually their best album consists of...kill 'em all...ride the lightning...master of puppets......

  • True, I completely agree, although I would put "...And Justice For All" in there too. But I was just saying that their best album is definitely Master of Puppets. Which Dave Mustaine had nothing to do with.

  • i think that metallica had an best album when cliff was live

  • Which would have been Master of Puppets, just like I originally said.

  • same here man

  • i think dave did help write sum riff's here and there in master of puppets... i just cant seem to remember which songs or song it was..

  • Dave claims to have come up with the main riff for Leper Messiah.

  • lol thanks for the thumbs down..haha

  • Why would these idiots give you a negative 5 for this comment?

  • @ScottXC91 Saying MoP (an overrated album) is the best Metallica album is like saying Reign in Blood (an overrated album) is Slayer's.

    Absolutely wrong.

  • @ScottXC91 actually, some people say that he did the riffs on lepper messiah

  • It doesn't matter that he didn't write anything on Puppets, even though he says he did. He still had a hand in developing the band in it's earlier form. That "little bit" can drastically change a band forever.

  • Dave Mustaine rules

  • on the photos its just all too evident that mustaine didnt fit into the band. there was a balance in that band which he could never take part in. he was "young drunk and full of spunk" like the rest but in all the wrong ways. Im just so grateful he was ditched from the band..

  • actually personally i think they mightve been better with mustaine. mustaines lyrics are(for the most part) better than hetfield, and if mustaine stayed in the band they migh not have made death magnetic, which is SHIT. then again, then we wouldnt have megadeth and i love both bands so that would suck...but exodus would be better cuz theyd have kirk hammett....hmm....

  • i have to agree with you grunge00125metallica could have stayed thrash and straight up (awesome) with mustaine but i feel that kirk can shred alot better! but cant song write as well. dave is a fucking awesome at making songs

  • yeah. kirk doesnt even really come up with all the riffs in metallica: james hetfield does. kirk hammett is a better shredder than mustaine, but alot of his solso sound EXACTLY the same. im not trying to bash kirk or anything but im just saying both metallica and Exodus wouldve been better if dave mustaince stayed(actually idk if exodus wouldve been better cuz i dont like them that much anyways...)

  • explain the four horse men... those lyrics are amazing the mechanix were just silly... hetfield is one of the best metaphorical writers out there. mustain isnt

  • HELL YEAH!!!!!!

  • James obviously hadn't found his own voice at this point, he was still trying to sound like King Diamond!! :-D

  • No it's not Dimebag

  • Yes it is; that's why they are holding Dean ML guitars. James at that point was using Gibson V's and Explorers; they are both holding DIme's guitars.

BTW, it even says Pantera at the top of the picture.

  • james still uses flying v's sometimes. not much, usually its an esp copy but there are some live clips of him using one(i think he uses one in cunning stunts but i cant tell if its a gibson or a copy)

  • omg is that dimebag darell on 3:12 ???

  • well he was friends with the band at the begging

  • no he wasnt he would've been in junior high

  • you said that dime would have been in Jr High

(form your comment that you replied to mine

and in do this so you understand what were discussing )

but there was a pic in the EVH Guitar world

    (the wolfgang guitar issue)

    on page 40

"they forged a friendship in 1983 and played with them on stage in '84at fort worth club Savvy's"

  • whos the girl at 1:38 his girlfriend?

  • I think thats Lars lol!! Or it might not be lol

  • Lars

  • @MissHetfield xD!!!!!!!!! he really looks like a girl!

  • That's Lars!!!!!!! ;D No kidding!!!!

  • @kirkhamstter that's your girlfriend.

  • dude they were just kids and they produced one of the best albums ever

  • master man master.

  • The songs from this are just no life 'til leather demos mixed with croud noises...

It's from a fake album called "in the beginning...live" you can buy it on amazon...

  • Alright this is a Cheap UK bootleg of No Life til Leather I have this but the American verision minus the opening intro. They just added some crowd noises and the Seek and Destroy !!!! scream is from Cliff Em all.

  • Very cool! Thanx for posting!!

  • Ron Mac Govney was lowly skilled on bass! You can hear in this clip that he is playin simpler bass lines than what the recordings with cliff and jason has now.

  • Fuck this englsih fuck

  • Yeah=))... I think is British English!

  • Honestly Rob has better skill if you listen to Suicidal Tendencies Rob was better back Cliff influenced by Rob. But Cliffs fuckin amazing so theres no competition.

  • well james quickly taught him how to play bass just so he was decent enough for the band.

  • taught who?

  • james tought ron mcgovney the role of a bass player so he could keep simple bass lines for the songs. He was not very good in music and had low expeirience. He played in the band mainly cus james wanted him to, and he wanted to party.

  • Thanks for the info Mattbodossian

  • No problem, I know everything about Metallica anywhere from 1977 fro Ron and James's freshman highschool year and first bands til 2008.

  • I just have to say I always rip on Kirk. I feel James was a alcoholic all his life and is now in recovery for 9 years. Lars is a real smart ass and stole a big portion of Mustaines material.I hate when he denies it They are hypocrites and Mustaines earned them alot of money.Kirk is a good guy but over all just an average guitarist.Bad vocalist. Cliff was and still is my favorite musician of all time.I will always be fascinated by him. Shoot me a text response.Brian J. Smith

  • ya same here man cliff has my favorite musical style and he is a huge influence on me. I think kirk is no average guitarist he may be like in the top 10 worlds guitarists or atleast top 20 i beleive one year in some magazine.

  • Awesome Thx for posting

  • ftw.

  • what kinda music do you like then you creep: pop, rap?

  • wow, this is rare.

  • in the first picture lars seems the actor(i dont know the name) of the "the shinig"..xD

  • Is that Ron on the far right?

  • yes,is ron

  • This is so 80´s awesome!

  • you suck big donkey dick if you think that you only wish you had as much talent as them

  • kcole939 i dint say that metallica sucks i said that this video sucks ok?

  • yer mom sucks

  • Cool vid. I Really like hearing Metallica when they were just a band that played in a couple of pubs or two! Amazing how a year or two after these recordings were made they were already a household name. But they're music was by all means revolutionary, and listening to there old stuff today, one still gets the feel of something no other band has yet to create. There new stuff is shit though, embarassing. But there old stuff will live on forever! Metallica, 1981-1991

  • Wow I haven't seen most of these photos ever.

  • Great video! /m\

  • 5:31...thats why he is soooooo damn goood

  • in the last pic... are they showing...?

    xD

  • yes! they are! XD

  • OMFG...

  • Thats wrong. It says it was 1981 but Metallica played its first live show on March 14, 1982.

  • i heard it was just lars and james met in 1981 and formed it. and they had to fire their first 2nd guitarist to get dave mustaine in

  • Lloyd Grant only helped with a solo on Hit The Lights before Mustaine came in. Their first gigs were with Mustaine on lead.

  • Awesome. By the way, I first saw a picture of a supposed compilation album called Bay Area Thrashers. I remember that the band actually filed some lawsuit and claming that is was just a bootlage. Are the songs playing in the backround actually from that CD? Just want to know.

  • Is that james at 5:51?

  • Yes!

  • Wow! that was a funny pic! :)

  • cool

  • at 7min 8 sec its lars kirk some guy james and eddy

  • It´s jason newsted,not eddy ;-)
