halo wars is just a made up storyline which is mostly unrelated to the other games. You can assume that it takes place before halo cause there are like 12 spartans at a time at some points in the game and from halo 1 onwards there are only a few spartans alive. something like 5 or 6 of them.

Halo Reach is based on the Fall of Reach.

The battle of Reach begins about 1 hour before Halo 1 begins.

The battle of Reach was pretty short so im not sure when the game will begin. Cant wait to see Kelly and Fred and Linda ( even though there going to look like Chief )

There was also 3 that werent at reach living 7 Spartans alive at the beginning of Halo 1.

the pillar of autumn didn't leave before the attack. It was there during the assaul on reach as lots of spartans were sent down to reach from the PoA to repel Covenant ground forces. mater chief and a 3 other psartans went to a space station to destroy some navigational charts that could lead the covenant to earth. The Pillar of Autumn left towards the end of the battle for reach; when it was pretty much already lost.
