At the end of the day, I think that the main problem lied in communication difficulties and cultural differences, aside from small mistakes and missteps along the way that made for an uncomfortable and unpleasant situation on both sides. I am sure that the Chinese officials involved in taking charge of these visitors were just doing their job and did not have any ill will directed at those under their charge. I'm sure that if I was in the same situation, my experience would have been different.

I don't have anything at all against the Chinese, in fact I love Chinese culture and am an avid learner of Mandarin. Some of my best friends are Chinese, but the Chinese officials that were in charge of separating and keeping watch over these individuals should have been more careful and conscious about how to best deal with the Mexican visitors (but , hey nobody's perfect).
