  • i love the smell when they were being fired up

  • I just fit mine up with a gas burner and be done with it. (All of mine are that way) including my SE-3..

  • I had one very similar to that, my parent's brought back from Germany -- fuel tabs made her go, and alot of fun.

  • Very nice!!!

  • if this has the eylet piston rods, I have the exact same model. I am in need of another piston/cylinder and a burner

  • Great stuff

Its goin that fast its a blurr!

    Thanks for posting

  • I just inherited one of these from my uncle. I'd like to make a short video for my aunt of it running but am having some trouble finding methanol. I can buy reagent grade from a scientific outfit for $25 but that may be overkill. Any ideas?

  • Try some Denatured alcohol

I think this would be best

  • Methylated spirit is what it is designed to run on which is quite easy for us to buy in the UK and cheap. Check out my video of my SE3 and SE2 which may give you more info on this great little engine.

  • ive got exactly the same one it is very old

  • It dates from the 1960's

  • I've got two of these and the workshop belt-drive accessory option and a couple of SW1 Wagons. I use them in my work which is TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language). I live & work in Kobe, Japan and my students are engineers/research staff. Loads of technical vocab in these charming machines -- and more fun than a textbook + audiotape. PS I prefer ethyl/methyl alcohol as fuel -- more heat and no soot remains.

  • Hi jagerfaust

My preference is Metholated spirit it seems to burn hotter than the solid fuel tablets

  • Omg ive got one just like that lol

  • I have started discussing the steam engine on my website, feel free to have a look and let me know what you think

  • We have one of these in the family somewhere, as I recall it had a belt driven pedestal grinder as an accessory?

  • They are part of our history now and well worth preserving

And of course using, fire her up and enjoy :)

  • I'll do that :-)

  • My Dad has one similar not as fancy : )

  • this model is one of my 3 mamods

  • This one was the top of the range of the Mamod stationary engines

  • does it actually use steam???

  • Yes it does, it gets very hot too

  • is it worth the money???

  • They are very nice engines, and you would get a lot of enjoyment steaming them

  • should i get one??? and what powers the flame and does water go into the boiler like a real engine???

  • Good video / nice engine!

  • Thank you

  • Nice...just fired up my first engine last week, a TE1a...who'd think that boiling water would be so cool.

  • Good fun and relaxing :) I hope your going to do a video of your TE1a

  • I posted it last night, hope you enjoy a beginner's perspective on running live steam...my model trains are in real danger of getting Ebayed now. :-D

  • Very nice video Bob, I enjoyed it alot :)

  • That is a beautiful Mamod--in superb running balance.

No shake, and what speed results when energy does not go to waste just shaking a model about.

It's rare one and a winner. I like!

  • Thx Reid :)
