The true creator is lost to history... no one knows, but Matsumura and Oyadomari (whom taught Kyan Sensei!) both practiced it and of course passed it on to their students(Kyan Sensei), and their students(Zenro Sensei), and their students(Zenpo Sensei)!!! Love this Kata!
Funny, I have been training in Shorin Ryu(Matsumura and Shobayashi) for over fourty years......and I have trained on Okinawa for a number of years.....it still looks like Passai Dai.

No . The Shotokan's Bassai Dai is the 'same' as Shorin's Passai Sho . This is the ancient Passai . Without splitting .
