  • why put a glossy finish where you plug in the ports. scratch very easy.

  • thank you so much

  • Wow at the beginning you said it was 1, 2 and 3 gigabytes,,, fail

  • @BroknSircut he said that he meant 1,2 and 3 terabytes. stop ragging' on him.

  • dont know if your a computer tech i was trying to format it, and notice on a video that i was using it wasnt the same one so i canceled the formating and now i cant even enter the hard drive any ideas what to do or websites on where they talk about this?

  • @sphiedd you must reformat the drive... Say goodbye to your data, cuz canceling formatting usually corrupts data

  • 9:50 test

  • All that adaptor is a sata to use adaptor.

  • HELP, I have a macbook and I accidentally chose to install the PC/Mac version but I actually wanted the Time Machine version..... What do I do???

  • @juanarruti Plug it in to the macbook and open "disk utility" and follow the instructions to format the drive, how ever this will erase all of it's contents (if any) so beware.

  • And can you use this as an external primary hard drive?

  • Whats better this or a smaller western digital hardrive?

  • So how has this worked over the past year?

  • to much talking . . . I just wanna see how it's work . . .

  • to much talking . . . I just wanna see how it's work . . .

  • i have problem no computer is recognizing it

  • @hari1233a You may want to return it or give Seagate support a call.

  • you don't even need the software from seagate. Just plug it in and use time machine to select the drive

  • How much space did you use so far?

  • @laptop504 I've used 1 TB, the contents of my current iMac ;)

  • 1 2 and 3 gigabyte lol, my phone do have a larger storage capacity than your external hard drive lol, just kidding around

  • i got this hard drive today in 1TB for £60 was that a good price??

  • @TheTechDogs Yes, very good price.

  • @TheTechDogs its only £84 for the 2TB now mate, just incase you need abit more space

  • Who's Michael Kukielka?

  • @DiNatalli That's DetroitBORG's name.

  • @DiNatalli That would be me.

  • @DetroitBORG LOL, I know just messing around :-) Thx for your work Mike.

  • On 9:27 is like a tron character!

  • great video. thanks for the help!

  • How much did you pay for this drive?

  • @laptop504 $80

  • @DetroitBORG no way, you got a 2TB external driver for $80?! I live at Thailand and the 1TB GoFlex (not pro) costs almost $110!!!!!!!

  • My best friend is the BORG!

  • OMG i love you. thanks for your help. simple and effective

  • When i went to disk utility, under seagate replica was a CD that said MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J..and it wont let me erase it. it says its waiting for a disc to be inserted but what type of disk??

  • @superdave5854 That is your optical drive, you probably had a blank disc in the drive at the time you opened the Disk Utility.

  • Hey, I bought this drive because it said that you could use it on a Mac AND a PC. My Macbook pro says that in order for me to use it with my "time machine" I have to erase the software that's already on it. If I do that, will I still be able to back up the files from my PC laptop?

  • @DJJayAre The drive is natively formated in FAT which means that both Mac and PC can read it, but Time Machine requires the HFS file system to works. You can create a seperate partition on the drive for the Time Machine backup, that way you can format that section of the drive for HFS and keep the rest accessible as FAT.

  • @DetroitBORG Not FAT but NTFS. On another note, I like your video!

  • Can you please show us how to connect this to are tv? Also show us how we put a movie into the hardrive then connect then i will appreciate. start from the basic then get to the tv how the way it works when u start at the begining

  • @PSTRIPPLEE Not sure I understood the question, did you mean o say "Apple TV" or "a TV"?

  • @DetroitBORG Basically what i am trying to say is. can u show us a basic tutorial, from the start how to input a video into the seagate hardrive then connect it to the DESK. then plug it on to a hd tv or wat ever that using the desk and play the movie. Because i own seagate hard rive and the desk but am not sure how to use it. so a simple tutorial that will start from scratch will be very gratefull since know one has that up yet if so is very confusing for people to understand. we all appreciate

  • @PSTRIPPLEE I have NO idea what I'm doing either. Any luck on a simple step by step video?

  • @DetroitBORG Normal tv not a desktop screen

  • Hey! Thanks for the vid, useful info on the apps that come on the drive! I am planning to invest in two 2tb drives with firewire 800 docks. I was wondering if you have any experience on whether these drives can be daisy chained, since the FW800 dock has two FW800 ports on it. It would be great, but I'm not sure; I read both positive and negative feedback about attempting to do so, but haven't figured out what it will depend on. Any chance you could try it? Thanks! :)

  • @danieljanca I haven't attempted to daisy chaing my drives, I don't have two of these specific drives to try out for that purpose, or the FireWIre docks. Wish I could help.

  • @DetroitBORG Since then, I found out they're saying on their website that the two ports are for daisy chaining as well, but not mentioning anything about chaining two of these drives, rather I think they meant chaining this with any other brand, but let's hope not :) . Thanks anyways!

  • I have a a portable hardrive from this company it looks like the middle one u have but it's smaller and it doesn't need a power supply

  • @ace7394 Probably a FreeAgent Go, a portable USB powered drive with a 5200RPM 2.5" drive.

  • hey great video! i have a question though, i have a windows and a mac, if you format the hard drive for a mac, can you still use it for a windows or is it mac only after that point?

  • @gtrnaisf If you format it for HFS, the Windows machine can't use it unless you run 3rd party software on the Windows machine. FAT/32 is universally recognized by both Mac and PC however, but there are file size limits (4GB) which can cause problems.

  • @gtrnaisf Mac Only at that point. Someone here mentioned, and I'll confirm, that you should create a FAT (MS DOS) or NTFS partition on the space you preallocate for WindBlows and format the remaining partition to Mac OSX Extended with Journaling on the HDD. This work around does however negate the "sharing" concept between the different OSs. So files saved on the NTFS partition remain invisible to Mac. But just maybe, glory be to steve@me, Blows might see OSX w/ HD plug in 2 Mac & Sharing On.

  • I bought one of this at Costco for $99. I was able to the partitions for the windows NTFS and FAT32 for PS3 and I still have more that 700GB which I haven't formatted. I'm thinking about saving that for the MacBook air which I'm planning to buy. The question is am I gonna have problem formatting that available partition using Mac?

  • @prolene1971 The OSX disc utility can recognize the partitions and you'll be able to select the partition you want to format. Should be no problem.

  • @George11894 Sadly no, external HDDs can't mount on the iPad.

  • I like how you have a variety of product reviews..

  • @greysmoke321 I'm a technology reviewer, with an Apple focus...but indeed I don't just review Apple products :).

  • sooo push's working with you, TOO! :-)

  • Excellent video! Thumbs up from a new subscriber. You're excellent. I watch your imovie video for the iphone today also. Both excellent.

I'm shopping for an external drive for my new iMac. I would like to use the 800 firewire. Sounds like I just need to buy an adapter for it? Thank you.

    Tim

  • @chessdude67 Excellent, always glad to hear from a new subscriber!

  • @DetriotBORG I'm trying to find you but it's not, working

  • do you have a money tree in your backyard?

  • just followed you on twitter my names oakesyboy96

  • @DetriotBORG Whats your name on twitter?

  • @anujwaken DetroitBORG

  • @haiti1800 No, I use the Sony HDR CX150.

  • @DetriotBORG I got my sister an IPod Touch just yesterday from a Apple Retail store and it was $250.04 dollars and I was just going along. And then when I got home I told my mom that it was this much $250.04 she said lets look on target.com and so we did and got a cheaper IPod touch and I'm wondering if I can return the one that we got from the apple store?

  • @anujwaken Yes, if it's unopened you can return it for a full refund. If it's opened, you will be charged a restocking fee of 15%.

  • @DetroitBORG OK its unopened i think we are gonna return since we just shipped one from target so thanks and i will get on twitter and follow you!

  • @DetriotBORG ok but tell me whens it's done editing! ;)

  • @anujwaken Follow me on Twitter and you'll get instant updates.

  • i was debating between the GoFlex and the Go (portable models), and i went with the Go because i like the design better

  • @Dell0304 Well the Go is a slower 5200RPM 2.5" drive, while the desktop models are 7200RPM 3.5" drives. But the differences a fairly irrelevent for storage.

  • @DetroitBORG Well, the ones i were debating were both portable models.

  • @DetriotBORG When's your next video

  • @anujwaken Not sure yet!

  • how can i set up password on the hardrive????

  • @luksamuel It depends on the OS. On Windows, download and use TrueCrypt. On a Mac, the option to encrypt is built in to Disk Utility. I will e-mail you the support article.

  • can i ask you what are you? like your job (engineer, doctor, etc.)

  • I like how your newest seagate hd is smaller with more capacity. I like how the seagate is upgradable via attachment to usb 3.0.

  • Youre using your new intro

  • I've never really been a fan of Seagate, but this looks pretty nice

  • @ThatDaveDude1 I've had more luck with Seagate than WD drives, but such is life with HDDs.

  • You must have impressive storage at your home, with all these past and present devices! :-)

  • @foscavista LOL, this weekend I was organizing this stuff again ;)

  • is the iphone 4 802.11n

  • how come you don't have affiliate links to the lowest priced vendors - like lockergnome?

  • @marthanyc That's a good idea I should investigate, not sure anybody would be interested in my referals at this time.

  • thanks for using the intro. I really appreciate it.

  • @MSComputerVideos Thank you for making it! I didn't ask and I was delighted to have one show up in my mailbox :)

  • @DetroitBORG Oh my god. The new Seagate logo is one of the most beautiful logos I've ever seen....

  • @henrikroxs It is a very sharp logo.

  • 1, 2 or 3 GBs? Wow, that's a scam. lol

  • i was wondering where you get money for all of this stuff? just use all of your work money or what?

  • @DetroitBORG The Macbook air is fast as it has got an SSD..

So if you use an external hard disk with it wouldn't it be awfully slow??

  • @coolipoddudes Yes, the SSD is much faster with vritually no latency, however this is primarily beneficial to the loading and seek times of the software and OS itself, none of which will be running on the external drive.

  • I was wondering whether or not I should buy a seagate, or a hitachi external hard drive, and now I', sold on the seagate. Thanks for the video.

  • @steveo32oz I don't think there is any real difference, I would just make sure you buy from a seller with a good return policy, like Costco, since these drives can fail unexpectedly (I've had to return qutie a few HDDs in the past and Costco is the best).

  • @DetroitBORG That is true, a return can sometimes be stressful. Thank you again for your insight. Not many people would give that information upfront.

  • @DickKnowsBest Not the first time I've fumbled MB, GB, and TB ;)

  • Nice video comparison... I have the earliest drive shown in this video!! The one with the Amber/yellow backlighting

  • @XxHardcorexxGamerxX That's still my favorite drive...they don't build 'em like they use to ;)

  • @DetriotBORG are you planning to buy a separate adapter for the bottom of the seagate FreeAgent GoFlex

  • @anujwaken Probably not, I don't need them.

  • can this work with time machine

  • @DetroitBORG YES!! it is hard trying to find one that will work with it

  • Nice vid Mike. I picked up this same drive a few months ago.

  • @jst4tim Thanks, how do you like yours? No problems?

  • nice channel, I do tech vids subscribe to my channel!

  • Does USB 3.0 use a different cable?

  • @SonyBoy365 Yes!

  • @SonyBoy365 the regular size usb 3 looks the same, but the internals are completely different, the mini usb 3 look different to the normal mini usb 3 though

  • Is USB 3.0 faster?

  • @SonyBoy365 10x faster than USB 2.0

  • 1-3 gigabyte wow

  • @the97freakpoint I know, can you believe we are talking about GBs instead of MBs now, just amazing! ;)

  • its 1,8tb no 2tb. STEAL!

  • did you buy the Firewire adaptor??

  • @g3orgeapp No, the Time Capsule uses USB so I can't realy use FireWire.

  • it looks very good! i think i would buy one :D

  • Looks like a really nice device :D I bought a Western Digital Elements Desktop 1TB this week, but it didn't came with any Mac software at all :( Not that I would use it anyway.. But the best thing was, that after formatting it said it actually had 1TB of free space instead of 900 something because of all the factory software :)

Anyway, keep up the great video's!

  • @Sponge1310 Yes, once I formatted this drive it wiped the useless software out so I have a clean with 2TBs ;)

  • I have the 3TB version on Windows.

  • @DickKnowsBest

You don't have to make fun...

    Everybody makes mistake sometimes.

  • I love your vid. You're not just unboxing products but you demonstrated it as well, with full detail.

  • @HLM190586 Thanks, I try to be consistent with my vids so that they know they expect 1. A Detailed Unboxing 2. A Demo 3. A comparison of some kind.

  • hey DetroitBORG, have you been seeking new iPods? :P Just asking.

  • @chakracannon97

He already did. Check his other videos.

  • @gatoradeboy1234 ive watched all his vids. the past few months he hasnt updated his ipod collection. beside the new ipods.

  • @chakracannon97 Nothing new lately, but I might buy a new 7th gen Classic for my new car.

  • @ilaannn ohh man you got ur 4 seconds of fame

    finally

  • on black friday i managed to get a 2tb seagate goflex usb 3.0 hard drive for only 90 bucks!

The usb 3.0 is backwards compatible with my 2.0 pc right now hopefully the new macbook pro line in april will feature usb 3!

  • this is detroit borggggggggggg

  • @ilaannn you realize tht nobody cares ?

  • actually make that at least 200 gigs, nice unboxing

  • u know any cheap external hdd thats only like 100 gigs?

  • @CriszRampage Well, you can get 320GB portable HDDs for $40, otherwise you have to start looking for discontinued models. I have a 5 year old WD portable HDD taht is 120GB and I bet that'll go for maybe $20 on ebay or Amazon.

  • what would you store on 3 terrabites thats insane 8 gigs is all i need haha :]

  • @IAR440 HD Videos, mostly ;) I could easily fill them up.

  • 60HD solid, how faster than sata hd is?
