dont know if your a computer tech i was trying to format it, and notice on a video that i was using it wasnt the same one so i canceled the formating and now i cant even enter the hard drive any ideas what to do or websites on where they talk about this?
@juanarruti Plug it in to the macbook and open "disk utility" and follow the instructions to format the drive, how ever this will erase all of it's contents (if any) so beware.
I have the 2TB version of this hard drive from 1,5 year ago and in the last months i experienced several problems with the USB conexion, and even on my new laptop i just cant acces to my data...im trying to buy a USB 3.0 to eSata adapter to transfer and save my files before i send this to the repair on the store i buyed...i have a guarranty untill 2015 so i have time...but can somebody tell me if i can somehow transfer the files, since the USB port is the only afected part?
When i went to disk utility, under seagate replica was a CD that said MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-85J..and it wont let me erase it. it says its waiting for a disc to be inserted but what type of disk??
Hey, I bought this drive because it said that you could use it on a Mac AND a PC. My Macbook pro says that in order for me to use it with my "time machine" I have to erase the software that's already on it. If I do that, will I still be able to back up the files from my PC laptop?
@DJJayAre The drive is natively formated in FAT which means that both Mac and PC can read it, but Time Machine requires the HFS file system to works. You can create a seperate partition on the drive for the Time Machine backup, that way you can format that section of the drive for HFS and keep the rest accessible as FAT.
Can you please show us how to connect this to are tv? Also show us how we put a movie into the hardrive then connect then i will appreciate. start from the basic then get to the tv how the way it works when u start at the begining

Hey! Thanks for the vid, useful info on the apps that come on the drive! I am planning to invest in two 2tb drives with firewire 800 docks. I was wondering if you have any experience on whether these drives can be daisy chained, since the FW800 dock has two FW800 ports on it. It would be great, but I'm not sure; I read both positive and negative feedback about attempting to do so, but haven't figured out what it will depend on. Any chance you could try it? Thanks! :)
@danieljanca I haven't attempted to daisy chaing my drives, I don't have two of these specific drives to try out for that purpose, or the FireWIre docks. Wish I could help.
@DetroitBORG Since then, I found out they're saying on their website that the two ports are for daisy chaining as well, but not mentioning anything about chaining two of these drives, rather I think they meant chaining this with any other brand, but let's hope not :) . Thanks anyways!
hey great video! i have a question though, i have a windows and a mac, if you format the hard drive for a mac, can you still use it for a windows or is it mac only after that point?
@gtrnaisf If you format it for HFS, the Windows machine can't use it unless you run 3rd party software on the Windows machine. FAT/32 is universally recognized by both Mac and PC however, but there are file size limits (4GB) which can cause problems.
@gtrnaisf If you format it for HFS, the Windows machine can't use it unless you run 3rd party software on the Windows machine. FAT/32 is universally recognized by both Mac and PC however, but there are file size limits which can cause problems.

@gtrnaisf Mac Only at that point. Someone here mentioned, and I'll confirm, that you should create a FAT (MS DOS) or NTFS partition on the space you preallocate for WindBlows and format the remaining partition to Mac OSX Extended with Journaling on the HDD. This work around does however negate the "sharing" concept between the different OSs. So files saved on the NTFS partition remain invisible to Mac. But just maybe, glory be to steve@me, Blows might see OSX w/ HD plug in 2 Mac & Sharing On.
I bought one of this at Costco for $99. I was able to the partitions for the windows NTFS and FAT32 for PS3 and I still have more that 700GB which I haven't formatted. I'm thinking about saving that for the MacBook air which I'm planning to buy. The question is am I gonna have problem formatting that available partition using Mac?
Excellent video! Thumbs up from a new subscriber. You're excellent. I watch your imovie video for the iphone today also. Both excellent.
I'm shopping for an external drive for my new iMac. I would like to use the 800 firewire. Sounds like I just need to buy an adapter for it? Thank you.
@DetriotBORG I got my sister an IPod Touch just yesterday from a Apple Retail store and it was $250.04 dollars and I was just going along. And then when I got home I told my mom that it was this much $250.04 she said lets look on target.com and so we did and got a cheaper IPod touch and I'm wondering if I can return the one that we got from the apple store?
@Dell0304 Well the Go is a slower 5200RPM 2.5" drive, while the desktop models are 7200RPM 3.5" drives. But the differences a fairly irrelevent for storage.
@luksamuel It depends on the OS. On Windows, download and use TrueCrypt. On a Mac, the option to encrypt is built in to Disk Utility. I will e-mail you the support article.
@coolipoddudes Yes, the SSD is much faster with vritually no latency, however this is primarily beneficial to the loading and seek times of the software and OS itself, none of which will be running on the external drive.
@steveo32oz I don't think there is any real difference, I would just make sure you buy from a seller with a good return policy, like Costco, since these drives can fail unexpectedly (I've had to return qutie a few HDDs in the past and Costco is the best).
@DetroitBORG That is true, a return can sometimes be stressful. Thank you again for your insight. Not many people would give that information upfront.
@SonyBoy365 the regular size usb 3 looks the same, but the internals are completely different, the mini usb 3 look different to the normal mini usb 3 though
