  • You are the fucking man

  • Big fan glad to learn it frm u man thx

  • Wow, i just got taught how to play a song by the artist that wrote it. You rock dude. I wish everyone was as chill as this guy.

  • So cool of you to do this for your own song. I just recently discovered you when one of your other songs was used on the TV show "bored to death" It is so rare that a song will catch me on first listen. I am really glad I came across your work.

  • Dag, I just got a guitar lesson from Sean HAYES. BAMF

  • Sean, what model is that Martin? It sounds really amazing, especially since you've tuned it down. And thanks for this lesson btw! Love your music brother! Best wishes.

  • You are my favorite artist!!! Wish I had a guitar and knew how to play so I could try to play your song :-). That's very kind and awesome of you to do a tutorial. Keep up the amazing work you do Mr. Hayes! :-D

  • Now this a real artist! Who else would take their time and teach others exactly how they perform their music, and make it easier for those who go nuts trying to figure out how to play a song just like the artist.

    Amazing!

  • Brilliant

  • thank you subaru

  • Sorry for the dislike. I accidentally clicked the wrong button and left the page before i could correct it.

  • It's really not his voice that amazes me. His voice is very generic and there's nothing particularly great about it. But his sense of music, his songs, the way he sings, is why he is so amazing.

  • Thumbs up if (like me) half way through learning this song, you realize it's actually freggin Sean Hayes.

  • Awhhhhhh! :D He has a lissspp! <333

  • i cant stop listening to this

  • I just heard this on a commercial and i looked you up ..... I totally LOVE you!!!!

  • Mr. Hayes, I will play this song until my fingers fall off. Your music is wonderful, and very original. :)

  • love your music

  • Just overheard your voice on a commercial playing in the next room. I immediately looked you up and now I'm in love. gorgeous voice and song!!

  • Sean, dude, I gotta say, you are one of my favorite artists of all time. Nobody makes music like you do anymore with so much feeling in every aspect of it.

  • @seanhayesmusic

Like everyone else who has found your song, I think it is wonderful. Thank you.

  • Right on bro! Thanks for lesson Sean. I've been looking for how to play this song and found you. Perfect! Couldn't ask for a better teacher.

  • Sean,

    Thanks, blown away!

  • I so want to do a cover of this, but I can't play guitar well.... :(

  • did anyone else snap their fingers at 1:30?

  • No artist like Sean Hayes can make me smile while teaching and singing his own song. I just smile the second he sings!!

  • Amazing O:

  • That's great Sean, but teach me how to sing like you too!!!

  • i would poop my pants if he sang me the happy birthday song :)

  • Amazing! Probably the first and only artist to give us simpletons a comprehensive lesson. Keep up the amazing work Sean!

  • put a tab up please! its hard to follow without! =P

  • If you have your guitar in standard, put a capo on 3 then tune it to standard with capo on it, then take the capo of and it's in c# standard

  • I've been a bass player for 35 yrs..... I want to learn guitar just to learn this song.

Thanks for such a great song!!!!

  • What a super cool guy!

  • I thought Sean Hayes was black haha. His singing voice is so different than his speaking voice 0.0

  • Thats a nice Martin.

  • Thank you so much for this powerful music...uniting people through music. You are a legend and very humble too. Thank you so much for the guitar lesson :)

I LOVE ALL YOUR SONGS! KEEP ROCKIN'!

  • Excellent song and thanks so much for the break down!

  • Will you please come to Morgantown WV and show me your ways! I wanna be like you!

  • who knows the chords for standard? i dont know how to tune my guitar like he says

  • @juggalobadass94 Simple bro- just tune your E string to C#, then tune the rest of the strings just like you were tuning your guitar in standard tuning.

  • Sean, damn dude, its obvious that you care about the music and your fans or you wouldn't have taken the time to show us how this is done. Two hours ago I didn't know who you were, I just knew I loved this song I heard on a commercial. Now I'm a huge fan and can't wait to buy some of your music. Keep doing it for the love of the music and never compromise your art for anyone.

  • @TheTonkyman hahha me too. i saw the commercial lastnight and had to look this song up. now im inlove with it

  • Dude you're the coolest! <3 it!

  • sooo.. i still don't know how to play it

  • Very very nice....thank you

  • Is there anything more awesome than a guy who sings the song giving a tutorial? YES. That singer walking you all the way through it so you can get laid.

"I don't really suggest leaving your guitar that way."

Mr. Hayes, you're 1 magnificent bastard.

  • Your casual talent is very inspiring:)

  • Very comfortable vid - its like having a conversation with the teacher rather than a play by the numbers tutorial. TY! TY! TY!

  • This song is my introduction to you and your music, and I am really looking forward to getting to know more of your stuff. How freaking awesome that you did this tutorial thank you so much man.

  • Great song!!

  • Very cool man.

  • I think it's totally awesome that you make tutorials for your own songs!

  • LOL! I'll leave the playing to you. I got lost at the tuning part...

  • holy shit you sound just like him....oh wait haha

  • very impressive and soulfull keep up the great work!

  • Excuse me. I was looking for POWERFUL STUFF by the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

  • What kind of guitar is this? Its a Martin, obviously, but what model?

  • Sean, wow, you never cease to amaze! I first discovered Alabama Chicken in '04 and I've been hooked on you ever since! A Thousand Tiny Pieces was the first song I ever learned on a guitar and you continue to be a huge musical inspiration for me. In fact, you were the sole reason I traveled all the way to SF for Outside Lands a few years back and your set was amazing! Thank you so much for teaching us this song! Keep doin' what you do brother and I'll keep listening!

  • Congrats on the success of "Powerful Stuff," Sean. I started listening to you on the "Flowering Spade" album (All For Love, being the track of choice i.e. most number of plays lol). The Martin 15 series really gives your songs great contrast to your natural voice. Keep it up man!

  • This is one of the best tutorials I've seen, very to the point. I enjoyed learnig your song very much thank you ; scott fairchild

  • That is SO excellent-- Thanks Sean!!

  • This is how a truly fine person shows appreciation for his fans. Came looking for a little help figuring out the song but didn't expect to find this. Thank you. Love your music.

  • Sean: Man - you remind me of Woody Guthry who used to write his stuff and publish it and let everybody use it for free. Actual Copyright: was like this: "This song is Copyrighted in U.S., under Seal of Copyright #154085, for a period of 28 years, and anybody caught singin' it without our permission, will be mighty good friends of ourn, cause we don't give a dern. Publish it. Write it. Sing it. Swing to it. Yodel it. We wrote it, that's all we wanted to do."

    Thanks again - jwrit

  • That is so awesome. This is the first time I've ever seen a famous musician take the time to make a youtube tutorial. Thanks man. I play by ear, so I had something of an idea how this song was played, but now I really understand it. Thanks again. It's a nice change of pace, going from playing by ear or somewhat helpful tutorials, to learning from the master himself. You, Mr. Hayes, are awesome. Keep up the great work, and God bless.

  • Thank you Sean! You are a true musician and a true music lover! Thank you again for sharing a little of your talent with us amateurs!

  • LOVE the bridge.LOVE.

  • Man. When I saw this I said to myself "wow this guys sounds just like him!" the. I figured out it was you. I've never ever seen another musician personally take the time to teach a song. I love your music.

Does anyone know if Sean uses the same C# tuning for "This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)"?

  • Hey Sean, what type of guitar is that?

  • @TheGreenteawithmilk

    i believe it's a Martin 0017. such a nice guitar.
