@akison1000 It's called the Sarge Easter grip. The middle finger is drilled fingertip, the ring finger is drilled standard (finger goes in to the second knuckle). It pretty much takes the ring finger out of the equation, some crankers do this to tame their hook a little bit.
at 5:20 the guy with the ciggar unfortunatly for the production makes a strike but they cut it... proof he he plays with a green balll but at the pins they show a red one ... pfff.... :(
@zeogr at 5:23 the rack can be seen coming down and many of the pins can still be seen. The rack only comes down after the ball has gone past the pins. What likely happened is that he got the three pins off of the left and the production crew was generous enough to give him 7 pins instead of 3.
But don't believe me..look at 5:23 and see the rack and the white pins still there..Strikes don't happen if the pins are still standing.
@meanboy2000 i had noticed that after i posted the comment but i couldnt delete it..:) you are right..it still looks stupid though because the first ball is green and the one shown at the pins is red.. :) anyway.thanx for the reply mate.take care!
@zeogr No worries, Mate! Just didn't want to give him any more credit than he deserved. The editing was funky as far as pin count but Fagan's release is awesome, and that makes up for it. Take care!
Looking at the release from the front is a really bad way to look at it. If you could see it from the back, what he's doing is sort of bringing his fingers in a circle around the back of the ball and then releasing it.
I think the only part of his approach makes him unique is that his arm is so flexible that his back swing is higher and normal people, which can store more energy.
I saw Mike bowl at the Dutch Open this summer, and ik looked amazing. Such a great release. Hope to see him a lot this season on youtube. Because there`s no ESPN in Holland :(
This was cool. I was disappointed they didn't go into the physics of the ball itself. They made it sound like the spin alone makes it jump back up, and didn't mention the weight block/core of the ball at all.
Also, did you notice when the guy throws a green ball and they show a red ball tanking?
I was looking forward to seeing this last night. I recorded it since I was bowling league at the time it aired.
I'm a bit disappointed they didn't go more in-depth. But it was cool to see Fagan's release. Everyone says his release is unique, but in slow mo, to me it looks like any normal 3/4 roll release.
Well, the fact that it looks like he has zero grab, and it doesn't look like he puts anything on the bowling ball makes his style unique, at least in my eyes.
But you're right, in slo-mo it doesn't look like much. But maybe that's part of the technique, making it look so easy :)
Looks like he starts with his hand under the ball. Then from the top of the backswing, he slightly opens his hand up. So when he releases, he's back under the ball, therefore causing rotation.
So he's not going around the side of the ball like most of us do. He's going right up the back, which is what most pros do.
@paperleight There was a match, I forgot which I think the one he converted the 6 7 10 when they mention that his style is influence by watch PDW back in the day when PDW's swing was at the top as well.
That shot at 2:43 is so fake haha

Whats up with Fagan's ball? One hole is drilled higher than the other.
