From my experience, playing both the Electro 3 and the Korg SV-1 side by side, through studio amplification, I much prefer the sound and playability of the Electro 3, and am much more impressed with its playability.
@dopemcee The Electro 3 has a button on the face of the board that controls the speed of the rotary effect. This is on the left of the keyboard's control panel, just to the left of the drawbar section.
does the electro 3 saves automatically your changes? as you example add a delay effect or changes some other settings of the sound you've sellected? or does he just reset everything if you shut him down and restart him again sow you have to store them manualy?? Already thanks!
This guy definately isn't afraid to tweak the knobs while he plays, a skill I haven't developed, and couldn't on an acoustic or basic electric piano. The most tone rich unit its size on the market that I've seen. I think it beats the SV-1 on price even though the units do slightly different things. The Stage EX is a different animal no?
I prefer acoustic for the depth and emotional quality but I enjoy the organ on this. The ac piano sounds are lame compared to my Roland V-Piano and my Roland KF-90 blows the rhodes away. I'm still buying this today as I could use a great portable organ and 2010 tax deduction. It would complete my studio which has the acoustic Yamaha C7 concert grand, Yamaha U1 disklavier upright, Roland V-Piano, Roland KF-90, Yamaha P-60 and both Triton and Motif racks. All that remains needed is a great organ.
Pianos...great! Organs....great! Mellotron....erm, not so great. Sounds like a synth TRYING to sound like a mellotron (and, admittedly, not doing a bad job). Tron flutes were pretty good, but 3-string sounded buzzy and thin. Get a Korg TR (cheapest sampler synth with sample zones), sample all 37 keys off of "Mike Pinder Presents Mellotron" sample cd and you have a monster-tron!
can the useless (to me) non piano & organ sounds be overwritten wtih patches from the nord piano library (with their full features, i.e. pedal noise & resonance)?
Give us accurate Yamaha CP-70 sounds, 70's ARP String Ensemble Solina and Roland VP 330 Choir & Strings and OBXa & Jupiter & Juno Vintage tones and it will sell like crazy.
Flutes sound great. 3-strings sound dreadful. Perhaps it's just a matter of filtering and effects? Would like a chance at seeing if i could get that sound right.
@auggiedoggy yes, but with rhodes, whurlies and pianos like that you gotta be nuts to use the cp80, it was the first sound I replace when I got my NE2, but each to their own.
@lashknife01 : Love the Rhodes and the Wurlitzer. The CP80 pianos had their place also. It was a popular piano in the 80's. All great sound to have available but let's face it, the acoustic piano sounds will be the most used unless you play in some sort of throwback band where you will be using the e-piano presets almost exclusively.
@auggiedoggy To be honest most bands dont use acoustic piano sounds as they just dont ever seem to find a natural place in the mix. As for the CP80, ur right, it was a very popular piano in its day, the problem with that sound is that it is very dated now, whearas the rhodes and wurly might be classics, but they also fit right in with modern music (think hip-hop and funk-fusion). If ur in a band that needs a CP80 then go for it, let ur instincts take over, each to their own.
@lashknife01 : I see plaenty of bands using acoustic pianos and yes the Rhodes (probably more than the Wurly) is still relevent in a lot of today's music. No, I'm not in a band. Just play for myself at home on my CP-300. Too damned heavy to move it anywhere else!
@subtexthiphop : And unlike the Rhodes, you won't break your back moving it around. The Rhodes weighs about 150 lbs but the Mellotron weighed around 350 lbs!!! Nice to eliminate that plus the tape issues it had. Fragile instrument but beautiful!
But if I were Mogar representative, I would add "slow at" function - slow sample reaction at Porcelain mellotron demo. I think Moby uses that effect and that's actually pretty well done on Nord Electro 3! :)
Great playing sir.. but question for the play impaired ( i think this is the word lol) does it have a transpose function so I could play a song on c and it would come out as F if I needed once I would know how to play the song on C and the singer on F I hope you understand what I mean. please let me know.. I really depend on that to buy me one of this awesome boards.
@Menrathorgan got it.. quite simple to do it.. and man what a nice synth this thing is I'm in love with it.. and I tought nothing could beat my motif xs.. lol
This is a beautiful keyboard. I play off of the elecrto 3, the C1, and the Stage 88. Sold A LOT of gear to go the Nord direction, but completely worth it.

i noticed no mod or pitch wheel..is that by design or is it someplace else?
how do you make the rotary effect come in and out on organs then? like it normally done using the mod...?
