This movie was unstoppable in the Oscar contention. I was so happy this won. If you think about it, what Ellis said later in the film can be said to the other movies that were trying beat this movie for Best Picture, "You cant stop whats coming."
'there will be blood' bored the hell out of me..''no country for old men'' i cant help but watch anytme i catch it on cable over and over i will watch it..the rght film won
No Country For Old Men was brilliant and deserved to win the Oscar...Although I still think There Will Be Blood should of really won. If Anderson couldn't take it home, I'm glad the Coens did.

I live near Eaglepass, Tx the location of where this movie was shot and let me tell you it hasn't changed much since the 1970's. The town basically remains pretty much the same.
i like both both films a lot, but no country was a better movie than there will be blood because it has more to say and overall its plot has more depth. there will be blood was about an oil tycoon driven to insanity by his desire for money. on the other hand, no country speaks volumes about the eradication of america's moral code in the post-vietnam war era, which not only includes people's excessive desire for money, but also their willingness to kill for it.
why are people so mad about the main character dying? when that part happened i felt like i was suddenly sucked backed into reality and i realized that anyone as well as myself could die. i think an audience needs to be faced with reality every once in a while.

this movie sucked. the only parts that were sort of entertaining were the violent ones. the main character spends the whole time running and then gets killed by a bunch of random people. the movie deserved WORST picture.

I too was pissed how josh brolins character gets killed out of the blue, totally detached from the previous line of events. An absolute disappointment. Started out as awesome movie, then took a turn towards suckiness.
random people? he was killed by the mexicans who were searching for the money. 1an1 and joegreaser, it wasn't random people. His wifes mom gave away where he was, were you guys paying attention?
Yeah, I just found that out. Still, that didnt make sense. I dont mind the main character dying, just in the middle of the movie. It should be at the ending like in Sweeney Todd. That was a good movie.

The movie was about time changing and old men seeing the past in a different light. It's an old tired story, rewritten in the hopes that an imature and simple minded audience will see great wisdom and sophistication in the plot.
It's so tired that they tried to dress it up with gritty western style dialog, star appeal, and cinematography.
I guess it worked for the simple-minded viewers...
art changes within culture along with the means and methods of displaying it. what's funny is that so many people are now immature and simple minded, and that is why i don't think there was meant to be great wisdom or sophistication in the plot; it wasn't necessary. many things like this are completely obvious to people, yet they do not notice until they have been spoon fed the information they have known for so many years. the realisation it incurred is why this movie affected so many.
the story was written by the greatest living american writer cormac mccarthy you moron. he developed the southern gothic style it's not just "dressed up". do some research on mccarthy he's really great maybe you'll realize what simple-mindedness is then.
that guy is an idiot... there is so much more to a movie like this. people like him just like looking at things blow up and ignore the dialogue in order to stick their fingers up their asses ... they seemed to be more entertained by wondering how it will smell afterword...lol
Why does there have to be only one great movie? Both films are masterpieces and I'm just glad it was one of them as opposed to some generic piece of Hollywood crap like usual.
i understand that it might give them a cocky persona i guess, but they really just are relaxed individuals who enjoy what they do, and feel that a thank you suffices... they wouldn't care if they were even nominated which is what his comment about feeling the same way about films when they were younger was about, they just enjoy making movies
They were right not to care. The Coen Brothers are talented and smart enough to know that what matters is the ability to create art, not to win awards and kiss asses.

I'm glad they won too. People need to realize that awards are advertising not real critique of art.
This movie was so tired and shallow yet it won. Think about that.
0lord0kinbote0 3 years ago
how was it 'tired and shallow'? at least provide reasons, otherwise you probably didn't even understand what the movie was about.

the directors of the film showed some to none of emotion after winning the oscar
pretty dissapointed that they won it...it should have gone to someone that would have actually showed some emotion or happiness that they won it
RodrigoMorenoTV 3 years ago
Of course, yes, it's emotion that matters, not the actual quality of the film...
