  • This video was tweeted by @MONOfans, the official Twitter of MONO (Japan)

  • This is nutz!! And i'm a squirrel..

  • Wow it's incredible how much amazing music you can come across just browsing through youtube - I got to here from 'live folk music', crazy :-)

  • MONO means Perfection.

  • There is something from 5:25 till the end, that seems very sexual! I could just come from that. Now!, imaging actually been in the concert O_O howwww.

  • @eloisaanguiano Maybe if you press your snatch against the bass cabinet...

  • Amazing...

  • love this music.gonna have to buy this and share on piratebay

  • @darrenleeherr what a weird thing to say

  • 0:50 sneaky guy be sneakin'.

  • feels like peeling my skin out and enjoying it.

  • genial genial <3

  • I fucking love MONO!

  • brilliant.

  • So much emotion... it makes me see God.

  • @LawdMyEyes yes

  • YEEEEESSS!!!

  • that sg bass is sickkk

  • They play with feeling an integrity.

  • III LOVE IT!!!

  • they're definitely into sonic youth alot

  • EPICCCCCCCC!!!!!!!!

  • Yes these guys own. I got to see them in Japan when I lived there and now I'm gonna see them next week in Detroit!

  • I've got this record on vinyl, so I don't play it too often, I like to keep it nice. When I do though, it bowls me over. It's truly dynamic stuff, it makes me feel that chilling feeling, almost like fear and then within the same song, lul me to sleep. I love this record.

  • that fuckin distortion has biblical proportions, I don´t have any idea how he does that!!!

  • 6:00 wtf? its real?

  • im loving this

  • saw them in chicago with sun}}}o, mindblowing!

  • THx for posting "The Flames Beyond the Cold Mountain"

    Greetz

    Gris Gris

  • listen to Jakob.

  • excellent band, i cant list how many good times i had spent listening to them..

    Just amazing

  • They have stolen my heart. The emotion put into this is so deep, I can feel it. It is truly amazing art they are creating.

  • You Are There is possibly my favorite Mono album. :)

  • Yes It Is

  • wow 2m.. i love it

  • Mono's releases are brilliant, there are no margins for time. They are one of the few bands that I can personally listen to their album start to finish.

Great atmospheres, very moving beautiful, tragic music.

I urge people not to compare bands. Music is music. There are no limits.

  • Agreed

  • @Thrasherdude yes,tragic,that's the word

  • @Thrasherdude I so agree with you.this is one band iv listened to all songs and not found one i dont like.

  • 2nd best in the genre. I like Godspeed more.

This is my favorite song by them!!

  • I didn't know we were assigning quantitative attributes, perhaps you can describe art by its qualitative properties rather than attempting to rank it. At any rate, Godspeed is defunct now - they haven't released a record for nearly 10 years...

  • regardless of whether they are on hiatus or not, lift your skinny fists to heaven remains (to me) a pinnacle of its respective style.

just as 'the wall' will never be redundant, though comparing the two is an order of magnitude apart ofcourse.

this is a great tune from a great album, my 2 cents.

...nobody sleeps anymore on the beach...

  • @2OfDiamonds yeah, i agree. GSY!BE is amazing. sleep is probably one of the most epic songs ever written.

  • @Ant505404 how about sigur ros?;) for me it's 1. sigur ros / 2. gybe./ 3 mono.

Hey you like godspeed? you should check my band, Grey Aura - EP Track 1.

Post rock too, hope you like it man.

  • saw them live last night in Brighton, they were great!

  • iam asians

    i do love mono

    i do love postrock

    whatever they said

really love goto and his parties

  • I've seen these guys play live, and I think they're pretty good. But, having seen Mogwai 3 times, I think the Scottish lads rock more! Mogwai have more variety

  • no one asked you.

  • Don't be an arsehole. - I'm just exercising my right to freedom of posting a comment on YouTube.

  • Haha, funny. I disagree with you but for the very reason you give. I like Mono better because I think there's so much more variety in their music. Mogwai have made awesome music, don't get me wrong, and yes I do own all their albums, but the last one was not very good, to say the least, whereas Mono have yet to release an album I am not absolutely taken aback by.

  • i disagree, i love Mono, their style is always that sweet progression and emotion that drives us to love mono so much, however for mogwai they go from the darkest and most vile of tunes to awesome, to weird, to happy, to strange and so on so it shows they have way more variety in their work compared to Mono. and i dont think their latest album is the greatest but it still good.

  • They are neck in neck for me.

  • :' ) <3

  • Great.

  • Truely exceptional music. Saw them in Dublin about two years ago and was blown away. Hope they return here with their new tour.

  • i think is not good..

    because the sound having poblem

  • its beautiful but i dont think i wanne see them live they are a little bit to slow for j-rock i think i better listen on the CD

  • dude thats post rock its intended to be slow xD its intended to relax to it

  • i would never bother to record this on video

i'd use every inch of my body to enjoy the music, it's so beautiful

  • amazing!!!if you like this, search for "godspeed you black emperor"...the best post rock band

  • i never thought i would ever like j-rock....but this was awesome

  • J-Rock? What's that supposed to mean?

These guys are from Japan but that doesn't quarrantine them to any kind of genre because of it. Mono would sound just as beautiful if they were from Uzbekistan :)

  • oops! sorry...

  • @heavyonit go figure people classify music from the U.K as brit-pop but if they didnt have any accent you could'v sworn their from america. MONO are classical

  • motplove, I was just thinking the same thing. Holy crap.

  • Haha I LOVE THIS BANDDDDD!!!! Gives me the chills as well! You know music is great when it does that to ya!

  • My god, this gave me the chills. I need to see them live before I die.

  • i saw this live in belgium in late 2005... i got first row.

    A.

    MA.

    ZING.

changed my life, seriously - i listen to music with other ears eversince that day (partially because i went slight deafer after it). =]

  • Eh?????

Similar to TWDY. I don't think so

  • What are some other bands like Mono?

  • explosions in the sky, godspeed you! black emperor, silver mt. zion, 65daysofstatic, set fire to flames, mogwai, hrsta...

  • i recommend you go to last . fm and there are tons of artists there. you can listen all day for free!!!

  • This song was the first one I heard from Mono. Before I got introduced to them via other band interests I was and still am listening to Mogwai, This Will Destroy You, Jesu, Isis, Rosetta, Sigur Ros, and other instrumental/Indigo bands. Mono is by far one of the best to come out of this "scene" they exceeded my expectations with this song. The emotion is very intense and very real, it's hard to compare it to anything because of the overwhelming feel I get from this song.

  • This music is like an orgasm..it gradually gets stronger and stronger till the end - the climax...anyone else notice that ?

  • hahha i feel u i noticed that a while ago with a lot of post rock shit

  • yes.

  • Get your mind out of the gutter. What the hell is wrong with you kid?

    Nah just kiddin'.

  • always go deep my feeling.....\\\\\\\

  • I looted their guitar strings and picks at PlinkPlonk. The pick of the solo guitarist was almost completely destroyed:p.

  • Greetings to Mono from Estonia, g r e a t live at PlinkPlonk!

    Thanks really,

    Puder

  • could be using something along the lines of a Hog or Pog from electro harmonix. If you aren't getting an ebow to do that I don't know :/

  • I've never seen either of the guitarists in Mono use an Ebow, and i've seen them quite a lot of times...

  • Does anyone knows how do they make that Strings-type sound live? do they use a loop or the guitar makes taht with an effect?

  • get an ebow.

  • I got one but it doesnt makes that strings type sounds

  • i think with the volume knob and a delay effect

  • This is a band that doesn't think about money. They don't think about how many fans they have or how many phone number they got. They just want to play music and show their god-given talent. A feature that is missing from many bands today. I'd say 75% of the radio is composed of crap compared to this. This song show true emotion, which other bands can't come close to making.

  • only 75%? I think you're being generous.

  • i'm so in love with this song (and with Mono), is so beautiful...

  • i love mono....

    especially diz song!

  • their hair is covering their faces

    haha.

    its pretty good

  • God, this is so beautiful. :(

  • No way man. Post rock, though bands now hate that term, is a revival of the way Classical music was made and how it found balance between loudness and silence, darkness and light, and all the build-up is the same as Classical music. Mono, like others, are considering what is beyond the limits of a pop song, exploring every emotion as if in a story.

  • that's right... post rock band like god speed.. explosion in the sky.. pelican.. even with the progressive doom metal band like opeth had all been around for awhile... hawaii is just too damn happy and too much sunshine for these music..

  • i know those bands have been around. im saying the band here sounds exactly like these dudes. pelican is shitty anyway in my opinion nothing that special.

  • why would u devalue happyness its tough to make truly exhilarating songs take: "two rigths makes one wrong" or "gitardjamm" for example, these are in the trulier happy side of the road and great, the thing is theyre rare because, i think, happiness its tougher to express. Make happy songs for happy people: thats where the real challenge is at. mogwai knows that, dudes.

  • Immaculate.

  • One the best build-ups to a song ever!

  • these people need to get into the mainstream, like on much music and everything, they are magnificant, I can't compare them to any other band they are totally unique.

  • i do: "speed you! black emperor", mogwai, sigur ros, "explotions in the sky", gregor samsa, and a really long list of bands. And from what i know, they dont like american crowds because theyre noisy so.. they wouldnt cope with fame and all (i think)

  • Youre right. Silver mt zion, esmerine, even red sparrows.

  • i do: "speed you! black emperor", mogwai, sigur ros, "explotions in the sky", gregor samsa, and a really long list of bands. And from what i know, they dont like american crowds because theyre noisy so.. they wouldnt cope with fame and all (i think)

  • stuff this good shouldnt be on the mainstream (and it rarely ever is)

  • You said it, man. Once it hits the mainstream, it'll be churned out to the masses just for profit. The bands will forget the music and focus more on making a buck. Glad the mainstream hates it because I love it.

  • this music isnt dumb enough to fit the mainstream american standards anyway. it has no chance, but it should be exposed!

  • Man I freaking LOVE that guitar tone...

  • I'm wondering what kind og guitar effects they're using!

  • Yoda (Strat guitar) uses 2 Boss Digital Delay (set to different settings, presumably triplets), Boss DS-1, OD-1, Digital Delay and Digital Delay/Reverb, and some thing called The WORM that i can't find much information on...

Taka (Jazzmaster) uses similar stuff but he also has a Mr Echo pedal - Message me if you want pics :)

  • I love this track. Probably my favourite along with Moonlight on "You Are There".

  • one of the best band i've ever heard.

thank you so much for this

  • this defines "beauty and touching".

  • that girl guitarist has a beautiful body

  • if you check out maggiekim at a com address you will see a beauty there too and she is in NYC and around the world..her music is pop gurly but she playe guitar!

  • I think I just saw God. :)

  • no you didn't ...

  • this song definitively chills me...

  • Thanks for filming I appreciate it, takes me back to the time when I saw it.

  • awsum song...got 2 playwith em in carlisle UK :)

  • Mono = best live performance I've ever seen.

  • wow! i want to be at the orlando show. don't take it for granted.

  • I cant wait to see them on May 7th in Orlando, will upload some videos hopefully, or at least some pictures.

  • this kind of beauty is untouchable

  • enchanting music. beautiful tunes. definetaly special!

  • Yesterday, I went to the MONO concert.

    I lose my soul... ㅡ ㅜ"

  • Yesterday, I went to the MONO concert.

    I lose my <strike>soul</strike>...

no, seriously. It was an amazing lineup at Rock and Roll Hotel (DC) with World's End Girlfriend and Grails, but not worth going deaf or having tinnitus. My ears have been ringing for 36 hours now... :(

  • i must admit, watching these youtube arguements is rather amusing :)

  • go, and see them live! Then you'll think you saw the best concert ever in your whole life! No recording of Mono comes close to the live experience of this fine band! It's not music anymore, it's pure emotion...

  • walking cloud is my fave album..

    they just..undescripable..

  • Thank you for posting such a high quality Mono video. No one else on Youtube seems to have a microphone capable of capturing such an onslaught of sound.

  • IMPRESSIVE!

  • There are no words to describe this band!!Simply amazing.

  • I dir en grey better

  • that's nice.

  • very nice

  • How can you compare the two?! Just because they are both Japanese bands they shouldn't be clumped together because of it. It's like trying to compare Morbid Angel with The Strokes because they are both American...

  • who says you can't compare 2 genres of music? and dir en grey have electronic influences just like mono

  • you can't compare them AT ALL.

  • I just did.

  • well, you're an idiot ;)

  • And that's a real intelligent thing to say, tell me how long did it take you to come up with that?

  • Yea lets compare Eminem with Johnny Cage because despite the fact that they are 2 completely different Genres they are still American.. good to see you know about music

  • didnt read year i was too confused by the god awful comparison, only faggot weeaboos like dir en grey

  • "Only faggot weeboos like dir en grey"- (shakes head) you sound like a twelve year old homophobic child.

  • man im just saying you made a god awful comparison when it comes to artists

  • beautiful.

  • feel the mono embrace... they're the ones

  • I love this band... I have all the albums.

  • thanks for the vid, my fav band as well..this song is awsome in particular!

  • Fantastic, thank you. My favourite band!
