  • do you think he looks as bald as hulk hogan without that wig?

  • Idk about you guys but I never seen a metal drummer do what he describes as "metal drumming"

  • marky are very good drummer, but there are thousands of heavy metal bands who can play drumms just like him .. so i think that his comments for heavy metal drummers are stupid

  • I love Ramones and marcky ramone, come here!!! Goiania Brazil!!!!!

  • careful Marky! carrrefulll...you dont wanna knock that wig off your head.

  • great drummer no matter how you want to look at it

  • Markey-Hey, I love your band, but quit talking about what a great musician you are. There are drummers out there playing much faster and with better technique. You are letting fame go to your head and are sounding a bit 'Spinal Tap' explaining your drum style.

  • @jangleballer I think his point is that they got absolutely no respect for the drumming by technically minded and busy musicians who don't recognize what they were doing was an endurance feat and difficult in its own right.

  • His right hand was goin crazy!!!!

    Thats AWESOME!!!!!

  • From 1:35 - Pure Gold!

  • Something tells me he hasn't given too many drum lessons in his day.

  • Alot of drummers cant do what he does with the high hat, quick repetitive counts. You can easily skip over that by cutting the count in half, but you totally dont get that same dynamic. It takes a lot of strength and endurance to keep that count for an entire song, but I think its an important rudiment and its pretty humbling to try out for a band and not be able to do it.

  • @centralscrutinizer66 Right on. I was a metal drummer in high school until a couple of guys in the year above asked me to join their punk band. I thought "this will be easy..." but after playing 2 songs my hi-hat arm was destroyed. Punk drummers don't get enough respect imo.

  • @Mummra61 I think drummers come to that crossroad where they dont ever think its going to apply to their playing till guys like us slow it down and find this 18th count ( is that what its called?) and either have to bow out or adapt. Personally and as a drummer, I chose to make it something that is slowly getting better with practice. I learned playing hardcore long ago and have played in many bands, its the mid paced stuff that kills!

  • fucking punk rock icon

  • Fuck Juliard. Ramones played with emotion and power. As a guitar player I agree with Marky - try doing Johnny's strum for an hour and 20 minutes and you'll be fucking cramping. Try it on an acoustic and you could end up in the hospital.

  • But they can´t do this!!!!!!!

  • what kinda drums are those?

  • @metlhead5 Ludwig

  • The stamina required to drum that fast and keep the beat steady takes a lot of technique, playing fast solo's going from drum to drum is when people won't notice mistakes as much, but if its straight high hat-snare-bass drum, people notice mistakes very easily.

  • Epic quote when he said have a kid from Julliard play nothing but down strokes and they'll get tired in 5 minutes!

  • marky ramone = greatness

    tommy lee= suckyness

  • @AlekWheeler george kolias = godness

  • great

  • Sorry, while the Ramones are legends, George Kollias (Death Metal) V. Marky Ramone (Punk)... Kollias dominates.

  • What a tool

  • es un Ramone... Pero es un payaso!

  • 2:46 Classic Louie Bellson drum solo style

  • Marky is a bad ass drummer. just because he doesn't need to show off on every fucking record to prove himself is his style. The Ramones don't have to prove shit to anyone. They already have! The thing is, he's great for the Ramones. You couldn't put Aldridge or Bonham behind the kit with the Ramones, it's just not the right fit. Those guys are great. At what they do and who they do it with. But Marky is def the best Ramones drummer and the Ramones are the gods of punk. Period.

  • But, uh....

  • metal heads got mad hahahah

    ty marky!

  • This guy sux. 99% of rock/metal drummers are better than him. Everyone song in every band this guy ever did all sounds like the same drum loop. He even sounds retarded just like his brother that sang in the Gaymones. Most drummers as they progress through technique usually increase the size of their set to incorporate more of their talent to the music. Is this guy serious. Does he really think he is good.

  • @xtremerollin he doesnt think he's good he IS good if it wasnt for the ramones the 99% of rock metal drummers wouldnt even be in a fucking band. so if you dont like the ramones shut the fuck up and gtfo

  • @anjake01 Niel Peart, John Bonham, Mike Portony, Tommy Aldridge. Shall i go on. These drummers could blow this retard out of the water with one arm. His techniques are drumming 101.

  • @xtremerollin You know who could blow all of those drummers out of the water with only one arm? Rick Allen.

  • @xtremerollin You have to keep in context the period of time in music Marky is coming from. Back THEN, technique and how it contributed to the overall sound was essential to what differentiate The Ramones from other groups. I liken it to Ringo Starr, another I think under appreciated drummer, who didn't use the traditional holding technique. There styles were odd for the time, and required more stamina. You weren't "taught" their methods back then. Holding sticks like mallets was discouraged.

  • @xtremerollin Your knowlege of music would fit on the back of a matchbook cover. No, really.

  • @xtremerollin really every band he's in sounds the same? You've never heard Dust apparently, his proto-metal band from 1971-2 had 2 albums out, some pretty good drumming on it. The Voidoids stuff he played on pre-Ramones is also nothing like the Ramones, stop spouting ignorant bullshit.

Guy knows what he's talking about, he's not talking technique he's talking about stamina and is spot on about playing Ramones songs, especially 28 in a row with no breaks not being easy.

  • drugs destroy...there´s no doubt about it

    this guy is impressive

he can play 1000 BULLSHIT per second

1:58 for fucks sake! he has no idea of what heavy metal drumming is about

he´s just playing the bad guy (well with guy I mean and old man who thinks he can play drums cause he can strike a hi-hat as if he had parkinson...¬¬ wow)

  • very impressive drummer. I play bass and after playing through an album like Leave Home you get quite tired.

A useful tip for those trying to play stuff off Loco Live Johnny did not play a note for every cymbal hit. A good pattern to use for most of their songs is: down downdown down down. It still gives off that great Ramones sound and you will not get tired as fast

  • that's f*ckin' impressive

  • "thats a little taste.... and u can taste that just like u can taste my Brooklynn's Own Marky Ramone Pasta Sauce! the little taste for a big apetite. enjoy!"

  • I wonder if Jojo Mayer stepped up what he would say.

  • 2:24 epic

  • When he hits the high hat really fast in eight note it looks like the stuck. Is moving by itself

  • @zombiekillz4566 using his fingers. Flying fingers technique. Used in heavy metal. He might be right. It takes stamina to go crazy on Romones songs, but he's wrong about metal drumming. That technique is used like crazy. 5 bucks says he can't blast beat for however many hours straight. He needs to calm down.

  • @FUPAsteve

Marky was a jazz drummer, so I think he can do more or less whatever he wants. More or less...

Sure there are drummers way better than Marky, however if you haven't heard him playing serious drums, mainly before the Ramones, I suggest you to give it a shot and try out this multi character ex-jazz, punk drummer-he is pretty good.

  • every style of music has it's own musical requirements, like endurance for punk and Independence for jazz. no style of music is better than any other, what you like is what you like

  • marky le pasa el trapo a un monton de bateristas de metal, el es una leyenda viva, mas respeto con los iconos del rock, que estan de paso en esta vida

  • Comment removed

  • @SaanBatero You're a lame metalhead and nothing more than that.

Watch your language, especially when you are on a public blog, talking with other people.

Typical metalhead: respect for now one except the slaughter hog vocals that sound like a sewer pipe emptying or a distorted fart pitched up and "BLAST BEAT" fans.

Wake up you 10 year old narrow minded unable to discover other sounds, with the typical "Metal Face of Hate".

  • @SaanBatero

    Do you know Keith Moon?

    Do you know John Bonham

    Do you know Stewart Copeland?

    Do you know Buddy Rich?

  • is marky a star-trek fan? "What are they doin, how the fuck do they do that?"

  • The point is not that it is hard to hit the high hat like that, but that it is hard to hit it like that non-stop for one and half hours and keep it sounding like the Ramones.

  • One of my favorite drummers, next to bonham

  • the guys a legend enough said

  • haha i can do that too, but they cant do this!

  • Marky just schooled every metal drummer dead or alive! LOL!

  • what a joke...

  • ALL GLORY TO HYPNOTOAD.

  • what do u think about Maggie Durand from cryptopsy

    or Jarkko Haapala from torsofuck

    or Ricky Myers from disgorge

  • what does marky say at 0:40 ? what band or music is he talking about?

  • Ramones isnt hard to play, its just so fast so you really do need good stamina to keep up and keep the tempo.

  • who the fuck is Marky Ramone?Did he change his name by dead poll, his a wanker.

  • marky is right when you consider how fast the ramones were playing at the time of Adios Amigos. Try playing 30 or 40 ramones songs at warp speed doing 4 beats per measure on the high hat

  • @boogiechillen123 thats true..and live they played all of their song like 4 times faster than usually and never stopped between songs just one after another like a fucking chainsaw...so when he said it takes stamina to play like the ramones did he was spot on

  • 2:24 EPIC !

  • haha i loved cymbol stick at 2:15

  • shut up marky you non song writing bitch ass sueing ass hole!

  • @BrickUnit fuk u man all the ramones rule yur a dumb ass its a great band wit a great legacy

  • @BrickUnit fuck off man

  • @marutakebikou of course

  • ai las putas se bardean por internet son todas unas putas

AGUANTE LOS RAMONES Y SLAYER LOCO Y MI MEJOR SUEÑO SERIA QUE MAX CAVALERA ME ROMPA LA COLA

  • you suck....i am better

  • Surely Marky is full of tricks! :-)

  • My brother and I are drummers and my brother was super fast on the hats and the ride, every time I try to play one of his(my brother) songs my fore arms start to burn like crazy. A lot of pop punk bands with heavy palm muting guitar have this type of hi-hat and ride work.

  • i think its just the basics, I mean i only knew downstroke strumming at first, when i learnt alternate strumming, it's easier. i mean its different to everyone, but I'd prefer the ramones.

  • is not easy jajaja i am drumer and ramones is more of less good i from mexico and too my english is bad jajaja arribaa mexicoo jajaja

  • im played like him. is not easy. but i can

  • 2:25 awesome

  • i like MArky ramone music... he plays fast and strong.....but this is a bite bull shit to me.....All we know that he can play more than Semicorcheas on the hi hat..... What he try to show us (his "Sincopated" solo) it`s nothing........ and his hi hat speed it`s good, but it`s nothing too...... f.e. Neil PEart from Rush can play this hi hat, Nico mc Brain too...and they say nothing about it....Come on Marky, you are great, but talk less................................

  • @cuerpoeperra How DO you play that fast? What's the technique?

  • @Headbanger142 Hi pal...... i am a guitar player... and MR plays so good and fast......and it`s ok....he has (sorry for my english bro, i`m from sothamerica!)

a really great control on his Hi hat...... What get me a bite wrong is his actitud.... He is showing us that he is good...and he dosnt need to do it...ALL WE KNOW HOW GOOD HE IS.

  • @cuerpoeperra On the high-hat, I mean.

  • I always knew it... all my friends used to say how the hell you can play as fast as Marky... i always said "well it's punk music, requires a "special" kind of technique... it's not punk at all fellas"

  • fuck marky tommy is the first ramones drummer

  • yea. playing an entire ramones album on the bass takes a little work at first. Ussually if I spend a whole day playing ramones songs, at first the constant rapid downstrokes freeze my arm up. But then after a little while it loosens up and I can play it for hours. Then the next day my strumming arm is really sore. But its become easier. Still a bitch though.

  • amazing..

  • cool guy!!

  • he is fucking amazing!

  • led zeppelin no es punk.

  • @actkk12 not shit sherlock

  • yeah, ramones are legend of punk! but they dont play very much .. they limite 3 or 4 chords , and drums are very simple !

  • Wooow That was Amazing

  • Who give a shit? Hair's overrated anyway! lol

  • Yep, they really CAN'T do this xD

    Go go Mark!

  • Man! look at the side of that ride!

  • Lawl

  • Come on....

  • WIG!

  • I like marky ramone and hes one of my favorites, but Lars Ulrich of Metallica and other great heavy and thrash metal drummers do what Marky said was hard drums, faster, with fills, and with double bass. so hes a badass drummer, but punk has its own style and metal has its own style, he should stick with punk and refrain from singling out the great metal drummers there are

  • @Ramtough93 I thought Metal heads and punks do not get along.

  • @DJDansound Wtf gave you that idea? Most metal heads have a pretty wide variety of music.

  • @Ramtough93 Well Metal is what Punks hate, short albums with long songs. Heavy Metal is one of the things punks rebel against. Punks hate metal. I wish metal heads would realize that.

  • @DJDansound I listen to Heavy Metal alot but its not my only music, and I dont try to get my punk friends into metal. Im a drummer for a metal band I started, we got a punk type guitarists and our playing range has gotten alot bigger. I dont hate punks, and most punks I know will occasionally listen to metallica or some old motorhead

  • @Ramtough93 The REAL original punks hated Heavy Metal, its one of the resions for the not a lot of solo's and malyes three chords. You can see in this video Marky hates metal, true punks hate it.

  • @DJDansound I think most punk rock bands site early heavy metal bands like Sabbath and Motorhead as infuences. Lemmy played some concerts with the Ramones. Lemmy is considered a Metal God. Marky never mentioned he hated metal, he just doesnt like how people think metal drumming is better just because it has a heavier sound. He thinks its overrated. Ramones songs are covered by bands like Metallica, Rob Zombie, Foo Fighters, Kiss, and many more.

  • @Ramtough93 You are blind.

  • @DJDansound You are stupid.

  • @DJDansound, What the hell is a "true" punk?

  • This is untrue. Before he joined the Ramones, Marky was in a band called Dust who, by any sense of the word, were a metal band. (2 records---1971 and 1972). His drumming on the Dust records is AMAZING, and totally different than his Ramones drumming. And as far as metal and punk not mixing, try listening to the earliest Iron Maiden or Motorhead records and tell me that punk and metal don't mix. Slayer worshipped punk rock, which is why they started playing fast music in the first place.

  • @AllIsAshesAnyway Dust was actually labeled as a hard rock band. Who cares about the followers

  • Dust was pretty damn metal for 1972. Listen to the records, you'll see.

  • Wasnt the only metal band in the early 70's Black Sabbath

  • No, but they were the best. Find the first Sir Lord Baltimore album. The Scorpions, UFO, and Judas Priest all had records out in the early-mid 70s. Though they didn't start out that way, Deep Purple had gone pretty metal by the early 70's as well. Sabbath definitely had the metal style, look-wise, too, though.

  • zeppelin

  • @OhYeah729 how is Zeppelin metal? Blues rock and rock.

  • I was considered heavy metal

  • @OhYeah729 So, whats your stuf

  • "it" --- as in zeppelin

  • @OhYeah729 what is your stuff that was thought to be metal

  • instead id it I I... led zeppelin was considered heavy metal!!

  • @OhYeah729 Yah by metalheads. Name one time Robert, John Paul, Jimmy, and John said that they were metal.

  • lol bet... they are truly blues!

  • @DJDansound jimmy page was known to be a satanist,,and he made a curse in the band....with all his black majic thing...,,

  • @DJDansound, That makes little or no sense....

  • not that hard. thats how i play.

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • listen here ass hole he did metal beat on a for peice metal drummers use dubble bass pedals and slow hat hits ther pussys who cant play punk i would like to see you play faster and longer them him in punk ok you little cunt maggot

  • Calm down. Nobody is trying to take your air of superiority away from you. There is plenty of room in the world for more than one kind of music.

And everyone thinks theirs is the best.

No one is correct. There is no better, there is no worse. There is different and there is appropriate. There are different styles and approximations of skill levels within styles. There is popular and there is obscure. You can feel good about your knowledge of these things. But on this page, we like Marky Ramone.

  • thats beautiful

  • I am not sure why people think degree of difficulty has anything to do with the quality of a musical idea - it 's kinda what punk rock is about. Have played with many trained musicians who couldn't come up with an original or interesting muscial idea to save their lives.

  • marky is focking great!

  • I think Ramones are sadly and wrongly underrated. I believe they're one of the most influential bands of all times... every other band took a piece of it and they never got credit for it

  • This is not hard. No one should put anyone else down. How does he know what they can do? If you practice, you can play anything. Playing the Ramones music is not that hard either. I will always love ramones. They influenced me & a lot of people. They're great and always will be.

  • you play all buzzsaw down stroked for a hour straight, play like marky and tommy for a hour straight...then i think you can call it simple.

  • Yes, I can play buzzsaw downstrokes for more than an hour. No, it's no that hard. If you think it is, you should practice.

  • It's not hard at all, it just takes some stamina. Practice, as you say, is the key.

  • well ok,maybe marky exaggerated a little, but you can't deny he s impressive guys...i have seen him live last year,he really can drum..and if you listen to ramones' songs you will say ok its easy, but as the years passed, ramones playes their songs veeeery faster, and marky had a difficult job back there...i am a drummer too,i had played lots of ramones' songs and i know :)

well.ramones music is definately NOT easy

  • Dont care about the where an whats...... Sorry. dont care how you do it...just do it !!!!

  • lol derrek roddy, geoge kolliAs, inferno...may i go on??? this is the first drummer(famous) drummer that i have heard so far compare himself to a metal dummer n say they cant do that. what about blast beats???basicly the same concept. except with both hands.

  • who ever said ramones are overated needs a slap in the face

  • oi

more like a kick to the face eh

    :P

  • I was not think that he could do this!

  • He's absolutely right!

  • he was the heartbeat of the ramones

  • Wow, he is so cocky and full of himself

  • awesome

  • Playing fast for an hour and twenty minutes on stage to fast tempo music is tiring to many yes that is true. People going to music college though learning how to play their instrument better and achieving new heights shouldn't be insulted though...

  • marky rules!!!!!!! I love his way to play drums!!!!!

  • most metal drummers use a double bass. he was doing that with his hands

  • okay, first of all, double bass speed takes much more time to develop. and all of the bands i listen to have drummers that play faster than that on both feet and hands. it's not hard. marky is fine for his genre, but he's damn wrong about how much more physically demanding technical metal is.

  • watch smelly of nofx play, he plays the shit metal drummers do but with no double bass, and he does it 10x faster, for almost every song, and when u doesnt he's doing what markys talking about here

  • fuck metal drummers. listen to jazz drummers, and don't say that the metal drummers are jazzers, cause it's bullshit. music isn't about playing 280 bpm, it's in the heart, and i don't hear any in tech metal. but i still fucking like meshuggah.

  • i agree, music isn't about playing 280 bpm, and i don't like bands that just try to play as fast as possible to show off. meshuggah is good, i agree. my whole point here is that marky cannot do all the things that metal drummers do and i think he was way too cocky with that statement. and yes jazz drummers do amazing things without playing loud or at extremely fast tempos. another genre for great drumming, just not my cup of tea.

  • yeah they are playing a faster tempo but a simpler beat to do what marky is doing there is damn hard to keep the hi hat going at that tempo with 1 hand. I would know I have tried countless times.

  • are you kidding me? it is damn hard, i'm a drummer, but my whole point is that i have heard maaaaany many drummers go faster than that. and yes, keeping tempo faster than that with one hand. look up blast beats, and for extreme speed, look up the gravity blast. also these drummers play more complex patterns at higher speeds. not trying to hate on marky, just explaining that he got way too cocky with that statement about metal drummers. look up george kollias for a fast drummer.

  • no doubt he got cocky but really I garuntee the majority of drummers out there cannot play for and hour and a half to 2 hours at that tempo doing that like marky did which is the point he was making.
