@Toadsandbones who the fuck are you to judge anything? you're a basement dwelling faggot who paints little dolls. (by all means deny it, but your channel says otherwise)

i wonder what it would be like to drop acid and experience this live...the vibrations would be intense..you can probably summon spirits out of the darkness at that point
@TimOoO I used to scoff at bands like Sunn, like any "normal"? person would. I only really listen to this style if i feel a sense of lonelyness. Sometimes i dont want to hear a "song" but rather just a heavy version of ambiance. Kinda like that rainforest and whales stuff, but with Guitars and no structure.
Sunn O))) Are probably one of the greatest discoveries and talents of the 21th century . sunn O))) is and endless adventure to the Void of nothingness . Philosophic and dark sound art . fuck it's great .

The bite and tone they get is insane!!! I laugh at people who dont get this music! They fail to see who they really are, they live in a made up reality. Sunn O))) opens fucking new realities. It may take a while but the sound is coming for you.
@omhealer dont want to offend people who really like this kind of music.. but gosh! wheres the technique? i mean.. wheres the feeling? and how can you laugh at people who just cant get this kind of music.. im a really open minded person.. but no.. just no!
@Tim0o0 There is more feeling and technique in this than most music. I'd say this and blues are the most heart felt music out today. There doesn't need to be blistering fast solos for their to be technique present. SunnO))) is pure atmosphere and you CAN feel it. I've seen them live and it's just something you have to experience. If that's not feeling, then I don't want to know what is... I will give it this though, it's not for everyone that's for sure.
Goddamn, this shit is unreal fucking talent.. 3 guitarists to make all that "music"? I think I covered this song once, on 20+ hits of acid in a dark room, I can't remember because it sucked so badly I never recorded it.
this isnt music... its shit.... any fuckin moron can get onstage and overdrive the amps with a fog machine and some robes from star wars.. my electric razor makes this same sound... and you dumbasses pay for this music in concert and on a c.d? lol
I really believe that these guys should do a project with Mike Patton, he will help them to be more focused i think, i feel that this is the start of a genius, but they have to mature a bit more
@1Heretic check out their split with Boris, Altar. I'd say it's their most focused. I don't think Mike Patton would do them very well, as their music isn't supposed to have any structure.. it's supposed to be felt, I suppose you can say.
I wouldn't say unreasonably. After I saw them it felt as if I had been walking through water. Live sound like nothing else and I saw them on the Grimmrobe tour
Maybe you should listen more carefully. It takes a bit of effort the first few times, which you will not go through if you hate slow, loud, bassey music of course; but if you do love the sound and take a minute (or half an hour) to just listen to what's going on, it's trance-inducing, it's huge. It's living sound.

Nonsense. Modern art engages in the breach of a self-reflexive culture. It posits alternative strategies for conceiving of life and experience in a post-industrial society. The romantic expression ("soulful art") you describe as the ideal paradigm of contemporary culture engenders solipsism and complacency in a market society. You presumes the liberal humanist subject is the ideal model for experience, understanding and enlightenment. This is naive. Modern art attempts to work against this.

I didn't mean the "romantic expression" you refer to, and taking the 'soulful' part out this music has no rhythm, therefore it is not music. The same goes for modern art, without any rhythm the work becomes meaningless lines on paper, just as this 'song' is a wall of sound.
This reading does not work, even if you except the view that music is only (and can only be) the chromatic arrangement of tones deployed in regular, temporal succession. Sunn o))) clearly operates within this paradigm, and scores to that effect. Further, you seem to conflate 'meaninglessness' with ambiguity. That a piece resolves ambiguously (either because of its meter or its tonal relations) does not deny it of content. It simply means the audience has to work harder to engage it.
@Darth1Oni1Link Well that's kind of the point? That's it's a pure wall of sound. But to some people a powerful wall of a sound can be a song or a track or whatever you want to call it. Art is in the eye of the beholder. What you think of it may not be what someone else thinks of it, and there lies the beauty of art.
The fascinating thing here is that these guys get paid bucks for doing something you can do in your basement at home. Just get a Sunn model T amp and detune your guitar, crank it up and away you go. Nothing special here.
@hpavin53 nah dude, you're overly understating what's going on here and perhaps you are partially blind. greg anderson and steven o'malley are clearly playing like 5 head cab combinations each. so thats 5 vintage sunn model t amps and different cabs each which are no longer being manufactured and cost thousands of dollars. also they have fairly complicated pedal boards, and vintage les pauls that are of the highest quality, that goldtop one is very hard to acquire. and there's more to it than gr

Ignorance is bliss. If you don't understand what feeling the music actually means, and not use a corny joke to throw back at it, then you'd understand. You need to go to one of their live shows, because it's completely different. Don't criticize something you don't understand.
you got any more cliches you'd like to throw out there in defense of your shitty band? a live show with a bunch of full grown men who think dressing up in gowns and capes is cool and different? it is definately different...but not in a good way - neurosis is different, om is different, sunn is a pathetic attempt at creative artistry because they just said, "well hell noones done somethin this stupid i bet we can get away with it" and your dumbass bought the cd
Yeah, as in cliche like yet another pathetic michael jackson joke. Real original buddy. Yes, a LIVE show, where you can actually feel the instruments being played. The videos do it no justice. And whoever said they dressed up in gowns and capes to be "cool" and "different"? It's all part of the act to make it even more interesting. Besides, musicians are performers too. When they go on stage, they perform. I can see why people don't like this, but some people do. You can't give it a label.
Plus, both of these guys have other bands that they are in, i.e. "Goatsnake". This band was made purely for experimenting with vibrations/frequencies and can only be appreciated live, or with a good sound system. I hear people all the time say "oh I can play this this shit so easy" but since when was playing music a fucking competition. If you don't like it, shut your mouth because obviously all your doing is criticizing.
yea i was actually just fuckin with ya - even though i dont prefer sunn...i really respect them for runnin southernlord and puttin out some of the best music on that label...peace
I'm a big fan of their music, but I can understand the feelings towards the robes. I understand their reasoning, but in a genre with so many crappy bands dressing up, it's maybe not the safest way of getting respected. However, the idea of removing egos from the live performance and letting the music, or the sound, take control is at very least worth respecting as an idea, if not as a reality, for some.
