  • I love that he bluntly asked, "How is it different from Java?" Really, why would anyone serious developer use Amiga Anywhere or Java? As someone that still owns countless Amigas, magazines, disks, and cards, I can say there is no point to Amiga anymore, other than nostalgia.

I'm still sad that even a 2ghz system has trouble with full screen video playback, and my PAR/TBC IV was so fast in a 30mhz machine. Why are these fast computers so slow? My bet is on bloatware.

  • It took 20 years for other computers to catch up to what the amiga chip set did with a small fraction of memory and clock speed compared with todays computers.

  • @packrat541 That's a smidge of an exaggeration there bro

  • the only way to bring it back, call it amiga 8000! people would buy it and blow pc and mac away! = pround a500 and 1200 user

  • @DS1221 you fanatical, dreamworld living loser.

  • @cuttock go back to your windows, pussy

  • @DS1221

I won't, I use Mac. I'll leave Amigas to real tough guys like you.

  • @cuttock you open the box not me, now I close it, because i dont give a shit what you say or think, gbye

  • @DS1221 No, you opened it by saying stupid ass shit, so I choose to abuse you for it. Amigaboy.

  • @cuttock ya,. go back to work. than waste your time, Apple guru.

  • @DanielChristy19: wow.. a bit harsh there, eh ? Grow up a bit.

Commodore USA has been catching a lot of hate on the amiga forums. It is not a next generation line. It's just a pc using emulation. Enthusiasts dub it as an expensive case mod. Minimig and Natami at least are hardware based and not based on software.

Amiga Technologies was the last best company that owned the license to use the C= name that used the custom chips and backwards compatible. Amiga 1200 is excellent !

  • can i download it free to run on windows? would like to try it out seeing how everyone sais its so fast

  • @DanielChristy19 I don't have a "mom", probably because I live in a country where we spell words properly.

Amiga never went anywhere. Seriously, you think Commodore USA have anything to do with it? They bought the name, that's it. The tech stays with Hyperion.

  • @DanielChristy19 Shut the fuck up, idiot. There is already a present day Amiga. There's three.

  • brilliant support them, screw m.s

  • Amiga should get with the times and develop a system like Citrix or vm!

Job done and you know that it will work...

  • I kinda feel sorry for the guy. Trying to sell something that noboy wants isn't easy, especially after you burned through millions of dollars of your own money and other peoples for the Amiga name thinking that would help only for the community to tell you to f*** off.

I think he has now gone back to driving a truck.

  • this idea is soooo cool. . . If it works.

  • This is a load of crap abusing the Amiga name.

Amiga was a concept that combined custom powerful hardware with dedicated chips, and highly efficient and intelligent software.

This has nothing to do with that. Amiga OS is nice as well, but without the hardware it still doesn't compare and is just abusing the name as well, as in its using a standard model CPU for example. The PPC cpu.

Anyway, this is just emulation and thats about it.

The title is a lie too, as there is no hardware!

  • @1:00 through 1:11...

    sounds like Android.

  • @Hiraghm No android is linux based OS. You cant take a program from there and put it to windows. This is what you can do with Amiga thing here. I guees. which is smart.

  • The only truth is that the same program can work on either Windows, the MAC, or Amiga after a programmer compiles it for either machine. You can do that now on any machine now. They make it sound so simple like anyone can do it.

  • Everything you just said is a lie, every damn little bit of it. There is not one single sentence in this interview that is not more lie than truth. NOT ONE.

  • this is obnoxious. it has absolutely nothing to do with Amiga.

  • Amiga - it's an unbelievable story... When I think about my Amiga 500, when I was 7, teardrops appears on my face. Unforgettable time of my life :'-)

  • Where have you been?

  • there are no words.........there are no words :(

  • *can`t watch this anymore*

  • I don't know about you.. But I kinda like having more choices in Operating systems ! Wish I could give it a test run on a new PC. Question. Will it run windows & mac apps without having to run some sort of virtual ware on it?

  • Amiga is a mark only, u can sell socks name it... Amiga OS is different thing, great unbeatable concept... never expanded to kill other systems because stupid commodore managers destroy everything. Is better to wait for NATAMI, Amiga architecture based FPGA machine... I hope Hyperion make update for OS4.x and this system can run on NATAMI. Now OS3.1 (kick3.1) is a base system for NATAMI, put in motherboard socket. All additional libs can be laoded to memory later and adapt system.

  • Where is the Amiga?

    How is he?

    Jay Miner?

Dave Haynie? nooooo just an IDIOT!

  • better than ever???

  • How do Bill & Fleecy sleep at night?

  • With each other of course.

  • Well...

What do you guys expect? The original Amiga hardware with ~300,000 colors and only 8 bit sound is woefully out-of-date. You can't release a modern-day computer with those specs and expect it to sell.

You need something to compete with today's Macs and PCs, which means abaonding the old hardware and moving on to something new, but with AmigaOS overlaying it.

  • Not true. Amiga design is still very swift and powerful. Enough to say all modern GFX cards and consoles follow that design of separate custom chips. With minor enhancements Amiga design can easily reach PS2 performance level, which is great considering this is a computer from early 80's!

And this is what NatAmi does - improving original concept for great performance and compatibility.

  • @LordBanter You make it sound like the Amiga invented the idea of using "custom chips" for sound and graphics. You would be mistaken. The 1977 Atari console used custom chips, as did the 1979 Atari 400/800 computers, as did Intellivision, as did Colecovision, as did the Commodore 64

    .

and so on. Amiga didn't invent the concept

    .

  • This blows biscuits. This Amiga is not the Amiga I remember. WHERE IS THE DARN AMIGA COMPUTER?!?!

  • This is a bit like the Mac. Apple killed the Mac. The "Mac" is now an x86 box running a uix flavor (Mach/NeXT) with a Mac emulator on top.

  • If these guys were actually MAKING a worthwhile OS I might be interested. I hate that the Amiga community has become so fractured like this, each person trying to flog their own little shard of the Amiga's power, but failing because they don't "get" it.

  • At least they're keeping the name alive...

  • i wish this guy would piss off and just let hyperion do it's thing.

  • when it comes to Amiga it every thing Hard ware and Soft ware, OR it's Nothing This Bill Finney is out of his Mind.

  • amigaOS 4.1 on aCube Hardware is real Amiga. Not this.....

  • There's nothing remotely "Amiga" about it..they are coasting on the name only.

Amiga was about exceptional computers...they are totaly going down the wrong path with the Amiga name which is why they have little or no support from the existing Amiga community.

  • I concur. Bill & Fleecy need to give it up.

  • I'm seriously surprised they're even making this much of an attempt. I daresay the AmigaOS has even less of a market share than Linux does, and that's pretty damn small. For me, the Amiga died years ago, when the last of the new ESCOM-built A1200's sold out.

  • In the world of embedded OSes and middleware, suitability to a specific purpose mean everything, and market share means nothing. Ever heard of QNX? Perhaps not, but it powers a some industrial devices and lets the small company live. So what's wrong with finding a new niche now that, realistically, almost noone wants a desktop AmigaOS?

  • ah, QNX who released a very impressive demo of their OS on a single floppy 1.44 ...

  • That is definitely not what The Community would expecth them to do...

  • Only Acube and Hyperion is Amiga !

Amiga.Inc is nothing..only bla bla bla.. And Bill is pissing.. ähm is not interested on the amiga-community. He only sells Lizenses and think he is important. Poor guy.

  • what is that little device?

  • The little device is a GP2X. Funnily enough there are no Amiga titles available for GP2X even though the Amiga DE* V2 was shown 10 months ago.

    *Dead End.

  • not an amiga

  • so let me get this straight. Amiga no longer makes computers but only the Operating System?

I used to own Amiga 1000, bought it when it first came out....

  • Commodore Computers, the company behind Amiga has ceased to exist in 1994. Since then, the licenses went in different directions, and there have been multiple AmigaOS-based and not directly based but technically reminiscent and compatible operating systems and execution environments since.

Just to drop a few names, AmigaForever (HW emulator), AmigaOS 4.x, MorphOS (both OSes for POWER), AROS (OS for PC and POWER), etc.

POWER, previously PowerPC, means computers similar to pre-intel Macs.

  • DId anyone ever bring fraud and embezzlement charges against Medhi Ali and/or Irving Gould for what they did to Commodore?

  • I'd heard that Mehdi Ali (LBM) went into hiding for some time after the CBM crash. Somebody should still find the both of them and throw them into a snake pit. :-)

  • I don't think anything actually happened to them - personally I would have hung them in public at an Amiga Expo.. :) but that was then.. it probably would get more press these days given the internet being like it is..

  • The sad truth about so-called Amiga company:

sites [dot] google [dot] com [slash] site [slash] freeamiga

  • really would like to see Amiga OS for PC's

  • I got all excited when I saw the title... Then I got depressed when Bill opened his mouth! Dude, give it up... nobody was interested back then and nobody is interested in it now! Everybody (who used AmigaOS) remembers the Amiga as a killer desktop OS, thats what it should be!! My advice... Support the AROS team and get the bloody AmigaOS running on modern hardware. Then we would really see what modern hardware is actually capable of!! Stop faffing around and grow a pair for christs sake man!

  • Not the same Amiga. But still, if they have a good product then they have my support. If scalability is the selling point against its competitors, though, then why isn't it mentioned more on Amiga's website? Why don't they have any demos?

  • He's talking complete and utter crap, they didn't virtualize the OS at all, can I run OS3.X apps on this? NO! I can only run some games that they hawk on their website.

OS4.0 is the real amiga OS that was derived from earlier AmigaOS sibblings and ported to PPC. This has nothihng to do with Amiga OS as we know it.

This is basically the same thing he's been hawking since 2000, no-one bought into it then and no-one will buy into it today.

  • When he says he's "virtualized the OS," does that mean he's got something akin to WinUAE running on AA2? Somehow I doubt that. :-|

  • Why so pessimistic!?

The market for OS 4 is

to small to keep a company running.

AmigaAnywhere and OS 4 should coexist!

    If just Amiga, Inc.

    and Hyperion could make peace...

  • Back and better than ever? I don't think so. This is not Amiga.

  • this is what sun did ten years ago. argh

  • Lol look at how cheap it all looks. Bill you really are just repeating what you said in 1997. Mini-mig Aros and efika are the future not this crap.
