  • since when did onion juice exist?? o.o

  • @pawynnosy

I didn't know the right word for it.. when you press or mince the onion .. you will get liquid.. that's what I meant..

  • Hello Aeri. I've made this dukggochi and it's suuuper yummy. I really like the way you cook, you work cleanly and neatly. I adore your smiley-sounded voice too :) Please continue uploading Korean food recipes. Lots of support for you!

  • Okay, so I tried making these but then when I fried it the sticky rice became all hard and not chewy-like, like after it is boiled.

  • hi, just one quick question.. if i don't have any garlic mincer, what can i do to get the onion juice? thanks! x) love the recipe anyway.. looks reaaaally yummy x)

  • @bbang83

mince it.. or.. put chunk of onion to the zipper bag..and tap or press the onion with something to get juice..

  • i made this recipe and my husband practically liked the plate clean...the sauce was delicious....thanks Aeri!

  • now i can eat 떡꼬치 for free. lol ^-^

  • it looks like marshmallows :D

  • Do you have to have the onion juice and honey?

  • @moustARTchios

    yes. they give good flavor..

  • @aeriskitchen okay :)

  • Yummy. I love your tutorials. Crazy about korean food now.

  • Can we make this recipe without skewering it? I mean if we just want to eat it without great presentation like yours.

  • @B1A4sBeautifulTarge1

sure... you can just fry the rice cakes and mix with the sauce.. ^^

  • In the begging u said "1/2TBSP of sugar"

but when u were actually making the vid it says 1 TBSP?

  • @GinasDiary

Oh.. thanks for mentioning my mistake. It's been long time since I made the recipe... my blog recipe says 1 Tbsp too.. I make food and measure individual ingredients to write down for the recipe.. 1 Tbsp sugar with 2 Tbsp of honey seems .. sweet.. if you try this recipe. you can start from 1/2 tbsp of sugar and taste the sauce..and if you need.. add more sugar.. sorry for confusion.

  • oooo, looks yummy!!!!!

  • ooh i just made this and its so gooood

  • how would you store this?

  • @jenjen22465

we just eat all when they are fresh.. hot.. lol.. you can keep them in the refrigerator.. and later can eat on microwave or toaster oven.. ^^

  • i like your cutting board.

  • I made this just now. It's addictive! I think I didn't boil it enough because it wasn't as soft as I wanted.. I really like the crunchiness after you fry it though.

  • I am going to make it tomorrow with your chicken recipe. Look so yummy.

  • i always wanted to try that!!!!!

  • Note to self don't mess with a Korean female while in the kitchen.

  • omg that looks so good. x__x yummy <3

  • how long did you boil the rice cakes for? or you boiled them until they were medium soft?

  • @allanquang

i boiled them until they become soft.. so I can skewer them easily..

  • @allanquang they get soft either way when you start cooking on the pan. But yah I made it today and it was super tasty and you dont really need skewers.

  • will the ddeok be hard? it seems quite hard when you coat it with sauce~

  • @ABiteOfMe

yes.. it's hard and a little crispy.. but that's just outside.. inside is a little softer and chewy..

  • @aeriskitchen thank you for replying! :) i shall try it soon! it looks yummy!

  • Looks so good :)

  • I've wanted to try this since forever and now I finally found the rice cakes! I'm trying it this week :) I was just wondering, if I put them in the fridge how long will they stay good?

  • @SaeLeun

    I will eat in a day.. ^^

  • omg my mouth is watering O~O

  • waaaaah this brings back old memories. Always used to get one on the way back home from school!!!! love it!!!

  • can I not put peanuts .. I'm allergic.

  • @maknaeobsession

    yep..skip it ^^

  • Don't you just love how she minces her garlic....how lovely.

  • how many people does this serve ? :P

  • @SandraCui

you will get 10 skewered rice cakes... ^^

  • where did you get those little glass bowls from?

  • @sherae88

I got them from my husband's aunt's house.. lol

  • I recently made this recipe, except I replaced the honey with agave nectar to make it vegan and OMG the sauce was sooooo good! My whole family really liked it too! Thanks for posting this :)

  • 어? 이 노래... 무슨 쇼 오프닝 노래였는데.. 뭐였드라... frak! cant mrmemer -0-

  • @danielgreat

    Artist:쿨 (cool)

    Title: 1. 맥주와 땅콩 / 2. 어머머

  • @aeriskitchen OH YEAH! NONSTOP!! <33

  • So... you use the garlic mincer for the onion juice, but a knife handle to mince the garlic. If you say so, you're the chef!

  • @seandunx

for me.. it's more work to clean the garlic mincer to mince garlic..since I can mince it easier with a knife.. hehe but for onion juice I need something.. so I used garlic mincer. thanks :)

  • @seandunx if you have a magic bullet like I do, I just toss the onions and puree and then let it sit so the juices come out then strain it.

  • I live in Nevada, And its hard to find Korean market here, U know where i can get those Fish cakes and the Rice cakes?I tried the Asian market i c Kimchi but no fish cakes or Rice cake. Im dyin 2 kno. Pls answer! And T/Y!

  • @sukiyukie

sorry.. if you can't find Korean market..and the asian store don't have them.. I don't know where you can find over there.. sorry for poor answer.. maybe you can try to find them online store.. like hmart.. or assiplaza

  • It looks yummy!!!..is hot pepper paste is different from red pepper paste..??can you pls tell me..I want to make this..;)

  • @MyBuster28

I can't tell.. what your hot pepper paste and red pepper paste are..but I think.. it's same thing.. because even I use both of the name for gochujang. thanks

  • This seems like be a bit more mild than ddukbokki? I made ddukbokki for my family this last weekend ( I forgot the sugar though :( I knew something was missing but I was trying to just make it from memory) but for some people it's bit too hot for them (even though I think I made it mild). Looks like adding ketchup and honey might make you notice more of the sweetness from gochujang? I was never into spicy things until I tried gochujang, I made a chicken burrito the other day with it, so good :p

  • @caribearkiss

Yes.. this one has a little hit too..but it's milder than ddeokbokki. ^^ chicken burrito with gochujang .. sounds interesting..hehe thanks

  • I've just cooked some rice cake following your recipe and it was yummy! I couldn't believe how easy it was. Love it thanks.

  • Nom Nom Nom! Love tteok. We've uploaded a few Korean street food videos from here in Seoul.

  • korean language is very annoying.

  • @aceher4life Well that's not very nice :p

  • @aceher4life Just because you aren't smart enough to understand Korean doesn't make it annoying :p

  • do we need the onion juice ?

  • @lilsmartygirl95

I think it gives good flavor the the sauce.

  • I should try that way to mince garlic! Using the usual way I usually always end up cutting my fingernail x.x

  • @ayuinu

oops.. watch your fingers..and yes.. try the way to mince garlic as I did.. hehe thanks :)

  • @TammilynTPhan

if your rice cakes are soft enough to skewer to the bamboo stick .. you can skip boiling them.. ^^

  • looks Yummy =D!

  • 만들었어요 ^^ 감사합니다 ^^

  • Thank you for this recipe! I tried it today and I felt like i needed more sugar or corn syrup. My favorite it your sweet rice cake with Red Bean paste :)

  • this is all carbs - flour and sugar. not good for you at all.

  • @ironchopsticks um it's a snack. there are way worse things for your health than rice cakes.. a bag of potator chips that's full of fat and salt, or a cookie that's full of butter maybe? if you eat a couple of this it's better than eating a cheese burger at mcdonalds. plz at least look at things objectively

  • @tokee1234567 the major epidemic in the US is obesity/diabetes. sure there are worse things, but that doesn't mean eating pure sugar/carbs is okay. i used to love eating this dish but i won't any longer.

  • @ironchopsticks um eating rice cake is similar to eating just rice. Normal white rice is full of sugar and carbs.. and needless to say, so is white bread. everything you eat doesn't matter. balancing your diet is. if you eat some unhealthy foods then try to balance it out by eating more healthier ones for the next few days.

  • @tokee1234567 it's not only the rice cake, but the mirin, sugar, honey and ketchup (which is all sugar) that takes it over the top. and unlike regular steamed rice, rice cakes are full of fat. check out the packaging next time you're in the asian grocery store.

  • @ironchopsticks then learn to exercise. Do you eat fast food? It is way worst. Everything in moderation is ok. The key is to exercise. If you don't exercise, then stay away from it if you're afraid of getting fat, etc. It's a snack. It's not like people are going to consume it daily. We need some fat in our diet, it keeps our body insulated. As for carbs, it's for energy...so as long as you're exercising and getting enough fruits and vegetables daily. Good. A tasty snack won't kill you.

  • @tokee1234567 wait why the hell would white rice have sugar in it .-. unless you mean tasteless sugar -.-

  • @eagleBURST well carbs do turn into a form of sugar in your body. that's kind of what I meant

  • i love it's soooo yummy^^

  • Your cooking is good... I made this dish for a Halloween get together and oh my gosh... Every one loved it... My family keep asking to make more this weekend... Anyways Thanksgiving is around the comer can you make a famous dish that Korean people eat on that day I want to make another Korean dish for thanksgiving... Thank you and love you much noona

  • thanks for U, but here in morocco i can't find rice cake so i will start to know how to make it. first i will eat in korean restaurant

  • cool recipe, got me all excited and i've located a Korean Food store in Montreal for supplies. Do you pan roast your peanuts to bring out flavour?

  • @westislandkev

Nope.. I just used the peanuts I got from a store..^^

  • @aeriskitchen my Khmer family and friends lightly pan roast their peanuts, just brown a little on medium heat and it really brings out wonderful flavour, then they grind/chop/whole as needed in recipe - if you ever try it let me know what you think.

  • @westislandkev oh where in montreal is this store? I'm going there soon and now i can ACTUALLY pick up supplies, there is no korean store around me :(

  • @CareBears93 There is one downtown that sells asian supplies at Marché d'Alimentation Coreen Mtl

6151, Rue Sherbrooke Ouest, Montréal, QC H4B 1L9 (name is French for Korean Food Market).

  • would it be possible to substitute the onion juice for onion powder? :( i don't have any onion at home!

  • @pAttiex33

yes.. pepper paste is important ingredient for this dish..

  • with what can i substitute the red pepper paste?

i can not find it in my area :(

  • @Thestargazer000

do you have red pepper powder ??? you can use a little bit of that one..and add more ketchup..

  • @Thestargazer000 You can order red pepper paste/powder online.

  • i would really love to eat korean food but I'm a little bit scared because I don't like spicy food that much.. I'm not a fan of it and the fact that I really don't know how to eat it..is there any option or other food the you can recommend to me that is not really that spicy? • Korean people is a race who ridicules the large earthquake and the catastrophe of another country.

    I despise Korean people.

  • @summercents

oops.. I'm not familiar with chilli bean sauce.. red pepper paste has a little sweet and very hot flavor... as the name says.. the texture is paste.. how about chill bean sauce.. ??? sorry for poor answer..

  • Omg I miss eating these!!! Especially walking down the street to the old lady and buying them for less than a dollar. Good times T_T

    Aigoo- i miss korea.

haha. funny.. you mean.. after you did something for your teeth .. you would eat them?? lol.. thanks for comment.. I miss Korea too..

  • Is red pepper paste same thing as the red rooster or saracchi sauce? D:

  • @alyssabaka

sorry.. I'm not familiar with those sauces you mentioned.. is there any body can answer for this ???

  • @alyssabaka no they are sauces....the red pepper paste is more thicker and use for cooking..hope this helps you a bit

  • @alyssabaka no.. sirachi is different.... you need go chu jang...

    go to korean market....

  • @alyssabaka

No, red rooster(Sweet chili ) is kind of Chinese one, very different from "Gochujang"(Korean chile paste) Gochujang has some starch(flour) in. It's very different spicy taste.

  • @alyssabaka No it's not red pepper paste has more solidity I guess you can say. Sirachi is just hot sauce.

  • @alyssabaka siriachi sauce is a hot chilli paste the red pepper paste that aeris is using is I think gochujang which has a more thicker consistency and a slightly sweeter taste in comparison. If you have an asian store it'll usually be sold in a little red tub.

  • @alyssabaka No I dont think its the same thing, the red pepper paste is more the texture of tomato puree, it also has some spices in it.

  • @alyssabaka Nope that red rooster is for Pho! Its a vietamese soup. Best thing is to find a Korean Supermarket!

  • @alyssabaka No, the red rooster is different than red pepper paste. The saracchi has more garlic and red pepper paste has a strong pepper taste.
