That would be pretty sick if some parent really did set this elaborte play set for their kids. Falling boulders, shooting gas from the floor, damn! My parents only gave me a ouija board and said make some new friends
Damn those are worth a few bucks today...wish I wouldnt have blown them up, melted them or shot them with a bbgun when I hit those pre teen years...great toys!
@Highlander01 hahaha holy fuck I haven't heard of woolworths in a long time I used to go there with my family a lot you could shop for clothes, toys, and everything and then go eat in their little diner type of thing lol
@unokilo321 Yeah, Woolworth's stores went into liquidation not so long ago. I think they only exist now as an online business. Woolworth's was amazing when I was a child. As you've pointed out, they sold everything from games, music to clothes! I don't remember our store having a cafe, though.
I remember having these as a kid (Trex, Diplodicus, heaps of little ones - just didn't get the Bronto GRH!). Parents hated them - so expensive for the time. It twas the ultimate way for us spoilt kids to show up all the poor kids in the street MUHAHAHAHA.
my parents got me a triceratops for xmas one year, I wanted it so bad after seeing this advert, im not sure I had even seen the program itself, but yeh this commercial sold them on their own, unfortunately I unwrapped it xmas day to find half of the bits missing, we took it back and they had sold out and were never to return :( im still sad I never got to play dino-riders now. That was toysrus UK
Everyone is so right! These toys were expensive. In the late 80's, when the cartoon stopped airing and the toy line came to an end, I recall local toy stores dropping the price. One toy store, Lionel's Play world, had many of these discounted. I went back on pay day, and some where gone, but I cleaned house on the rest. I even ordered some from Tyco, delivered by UPS. I must have between 7-10 of them. I can not recall how many were made. Great toys!
These were GREAT toys (but yes, expensive!) and yes, one of those "perfect" marketing pitches I'd have loved to see: "Wanna know what will sell more toys than dinosaurs? Dinosaurs blowin' each other away with laser cannons! Sweet, huh?"
Onotarh, I'd bet the "ridiculous voices" were at least in part thanks to Frank Welker (Kurlos), vocal legend that he is! :)
I met one of my best friends in college and apparently his family would-for christmas-order a case of toys so he always had complete sets of stuff. I was lucky if I got all the TMNTs...though I do have a few DR figures I never got the big ones just the pterodactyl and the Triceratops.
These commercials rocked! I always wanted the T-Rex when I was young, but I only got the Monoclonius. So I bought a T-Rex on eBay and man, even at my age now (22), it's still friggin huge.
I owned a flyer(yellow with black dots rulor), the three horned four legged dino that you saw on the cliffs in this adds and a raptor. Man it would be fun to own them all. Prolly among my favorite toys when I was a kid.
i was at a bootsale and picked up a T-REX in its box for £25 the only thing that was missing was 1 gun off the brainbox, but it is a 100% bargin for the price and it looks nice in my collection.
ugh why didnt they let Crulos win. The rulons had way better figures. I used to love the hammerhead guys and later the stingray rulon they released in the newer set. If only the armor wasnt made outta such brittle plastic. Things were always breaking on those :(
yeah... that's because it's the same voice actor: Frank Welker... you might know him as he did the voice of Megatron in the legendary Transformers cartoon :D
check his credits on IMDB, just amazing how much he's done in the last 20 years or so
You are right, the bronto is the most expensive. My mistake, I mean the Torosaurus. That was still no way more expensive then the ones mentioned above. And yes, my theory of spoiled crackers still holds.
lmfao i used to watch this commercial all the time when i was a goober kid. and then i remember the race car commercials too. anyone remember those? lmao
The toy adverts of those days were very good. I regularly played the toys with my godsister, Rikku. I am always the Rulons and she as the Dino-Riders (while we are playing). Those were the days. *sigh*.
I loved this movie and these toys when I was eight years old. I agree with you;Sometimes I still buy dino riders toys on Ebay like Triceratops or ankylosaure...Great memories!!!
I totally agree with you. It was one of my favourite moments of my life, and I would not have it any other way. I fondly remembered seeing the adverts every week, and the regular tv user asking the parents to buy the toys.
I remember these commercials! I have most of the first collection and part of the second collection, and one from the third collection. Dino Riders are SO AWESOME! If only they stillmade awesome toys like these!
I remember when my rich cousin at the time had these toys. I was so got damn jealous of him. :(
And he had a super nintendo too. Man I wanted to burn his house down. :(
