the excess bit of strings are all hanging out etc which is a hazard because they could go in your eyes if you're not careful.
get a nailcutter and cut the excess bits of strings off.

never really thought about it. They don't bother me, I don't have a decent clippers to chop 'em off properly, and whenever I do i usually end up stabbing myself on the spiky bit that's left over!
