The new testament is based on the foundation of the (old testament) . its the same god. There is no context in which the violence of the old testament is justifies.
even biblical scholars will testify to the fact that the passage about Jesus saving the women was as hundreds of yrs later by clergy that made it up. also Jesus never overturns the violence of old testament law. I think we are going to haft to agree to disagree. I have no respect for the pope. his own documents reveal he was much more concerned about the image of the church than for the thousands of children that were raped & abused. He tried to cover it up & moved known child rapists to different congregations where they would be protected.
Also million are dying in Africa as a direct result of the churches policy on condoms even going as far as spreading the lie they cause aides.

Honestly I don't even care whether Christianity or any other religion is morally sound or not I care whether the claims it makes are true. Christianity has no more evidence in its favor as Hinduism or Islam does.

The fact the popes disagree with each other should convince you that the bible can be interpreted in many ways, hence the thousands of denominations of Christianity. The Bible was meant to be read literally & was for most of Christian history. nowhere in the bible does it say you are allowed ignore certain passages or view certain stories as myths to convey a message.

In the old testament god is very clear about wanting us to own other human beings setting rules about how hard they are to be beaten (it turns out really hard)

the teachings of Jesus were nothing revolutionary though they are much more morally sound than the evilness of the old testament. The fact is there were many philosophers that taught moral teachings similar to jesus's "do unto other" & "turn the other cheek" that predate Jesus by thousands of yrs.
Jesus was only a man, there is zero evidence he was divine in anyway.

The new testament is based on the foundation of the (old testament) . its the same god. There is no context in which the violence of the old testament is justifies.
even biblical scholars will testify to the fact that the passage about Jesus saving the women was as hundreds of yrs later by clergy that made it up. also Jesus never overturns the violence of old testament law. Christianity was also spread at the tip of the sword. The only reason Christianity rose to become a major religion instead of remaining a small cult was because of the roman emperor Constantine. There were many better moral philosophers a 1000yrs before Jesus. Though for the culture he lived in he was if he existed at all a good moral philosopher.
