I thnk the film is pretty clear that they won't end up together but in the book, I think there is more hope. 1), he doesn't leave - he just goes upstairs to continue packing (surely he would stay for Melly's funeral) 2) he tells her that he will come back "often enough" to keep gossip down as he realises she doesn't want a divorrce and 3) he is fond of her kids
please he's still in love with her. she says she's going to find a way to get him back and she will. maybe it'll take a little convincing but she's vivien freaking leigh. she'll get him back they belong together! they should have mariahs song playing in the background when they get back together haha!

This scene is so heart-wrenching because I can never determine whether I actually want her to win him back. I like to believe that this experience changed Scarlett, that she'll start actually start caring for others now that she realizes what she can lose, and eventually that spark is back. Because while Rhett loves her fiery side, he also wants someone with a heart like Belle. But really, I'm not sure that that love can be restored. But I love the fact that the book is open-ended.

We all love the immortal "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn." However, in my opinion, "That's your misfortune" is phenomenal as well. When most men have been mistreated and want to leave a girl, the girls say things like "i only know that i love you" and cry and dramatize. Most men succumb to their pleas, even though there is no question they should leave. Not Rhett Butler. Sooo much self respect. Certes mais Rhett n'est pas tout blanc dans cette histoire (et Ashley non plus d'ailleurs). Celui qui l'aimait ne lui a jamais dit et celui qui ne l'aimait pas la menait en bateau. Rhett a souvent été odieux et a laissé Scarlett livrée à elle-même, donc forcément, elle est devenue égoïste.
