Make no mistake, however.

U2 was at the top as was REM and Pearl Jam and Nirvana were the rockers that were emerging. And now U R there!

okay...not to jump into a silly argument of which I don't have all of the background...but r.e.m., smiths, and u2 were the big three of the 80s...and that's a pretty big 3...despite dorkheads who like to retro what they think the 80s are...as far as u2 goes, c'mon...seriously, if you don't think "achtung baby" is f'ing brilliant...then you haven't listened to the whole thing at one sitting...on a nice stereo or headphones...or you've never been high

I completely agree with you in that respect. Achtung baby IS brilliant. One may even be the greatest song of the 90s. However, as an album, brilliant is not as good as perfect. Perhaps one can't compare the Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby simply because both are so great, but, in my opinion, the Joshua Tree was better.
