  • I get the sense from Gervais that under all that mockery and jokes, he really does want to be accepted by celebrities.

  • @ThwartedVillainy Umm, he is a celebrity.

  • "... But I lost my fingers."

Holy fuck, Rick. Stop being so funny. I can hardly see straight after laughing at that.

  • A lot of working class people are depressed, or drug addicts, or alcoholics, or nervous wrecks, etc. If anything they are more vulnerable than celebrities because they don't have the time or money to get help. "Sucking it up' only gets you so far. He's right about celebrities 'advertising' their problems for attention, but one reason we like hearing that celebrities are messed up is because it makes us feel less bad about being messed up ourselves. They wouldn't talk if we wouldn't listen.

  • "Im addicted to sex NOT A PROBLEM, have a wank then" LOL

  • He might be a dickhead but at least he is honest.

  • Dude, one of my old friends is working class and addicted to sex. It's actually a huge problem for him. Makes it hard for him to keep relationships. Makes it hard for him to avoid people who are bad for him. Just because his problem isn't publicized doesn't mean it doesn't exist, and even if he had all the money in the world that problem wouldn't just go away.

  • @DeenMoriarty I'm pretty sure what he's talking about is how celebrities are advertising their "addictions" more than they are getting help. I don't think it was a jab at sex addicts. I could be wrong, though, I'm not in his head.

  • @DeenMoriarty Well, actually if he was rich, your right it wouldn't go away but it would make it easier to recover from. Theoretically he could buy sex (whether its a hooker, escort or a partner who is in it for the money), hire a good psychologist or doctor and help him manage his addiction and slowly treat it. He might not be able to do all as a working class man. However I do agree in the sense that it affects you and the people around you whether your rich or not.

  • Oh my, I simply rolled off the couch laughing when he said "so yeah, I like celebrities"...

  • I love these comments, I love how people feel the need to express their little judgments on a comedy bit. Jokes people..fuck!

  • What an ass. Success disallows people from being depressed?

  • @bossmonkeykj What do they have to be depressed about yeah they can have days when they aren't feeling their best like everyone else. But what cause do they have to be clinically depressed all the time. What is so hard in their lives with the world at their fingertips to cry about. Children in Africa who are days from death are more cheerful than most of these soppy bastards.

  • @caniwatchavidplz You don't need to be foodless or homeless to be depressed. Human beings have other needs as well. Love, self-esteem, a sense of purpose, a reason to get up in the morning. You have a very simplistic view of depression. food + shelter doesn't necessarily = happiness.

  • @bossmonkeykj What you don't seem to understand is that I don't believe that just roof + food is happiness. Self-esteem is something that no successful person should be dealing with, you don't need a reason to get up in the morning to be happy. There sense of purpose like 99% of the rest of the world is to be successful and make money, which they have already seemingly accomplished, when you put their problems next to other people. You have to ask yourself what are you really sad about.

  • @caniwatchavidplz comedians especially are notorious for having low self esteem and yet being famous. What drives them to be comedians is the applause and adoration of the crowd. John Stewart pokes fun at himself all the time for not becoming very uncomfortable if he goes too long without making a joke. Self esteem is a human challenge that most people struggle with. I'm surprised I have to repeat such a trite idea, but fame and fortune are hollow and empty when it comes to a reason for living.

  • @caniwatchavidplz Yet food + shelter just doesn't equal happiness for millions and millions of people. It just doesn't. There is no getting around that fact. Suicide is the 13th leading cause of death worldwide. How do you explain that?

  • @squamish4244 People are pussies.

  • @caniwatchavidplz One day you may be in their shoes, and we'll see how your judgment is then.

  • @caniwatchavidplz If people were all pussies the world would be a less violent place... provided the "pussies" knew there power. :09

  • Of course, he's saying more than he says.

  • He's doing standup comedy... he makes a point but i don't think these videos should be about telling 5 jokes to makes 1 point.

  • The most relevant voice in comedy since George Carlin.

  • He is nailing stuff

  • Ricky, you're a realist!

    Thanks for the laughs!

  • legend

  • I love Ricky Gervais.....I can't stand Russell Brand.

  • It should be called Ricky Gervais about Russell Brand.

  • Is that Wheatly?

I thought wheatly was dumb? This guys a genius.

  • @1redrider100 No, this is Wheatley's partner. Look up The Ricky Gervais Show on YouTube.

  • lolsies...

  • He's one of the good ones.... it was entertaining to see Hollywood get all defensive when he attacked all those celebrities

  • Rickey is a vampire!!

  • We love you, you Limey bastard!

  • Ricky, honest, amusing and speaks the truth. That's what everyone should do, less wars, more fun, humanity would evolve so much faster.

  • His speech about this kind of thing on the Extras Christmas Special was a bit better.

  • He's saying what everyone else is thinking, but daren't say...

  • hes saying something a celebrity would say - celebrities are stupid. Celebrities are images that take away from our own monotony. They live in an untouchable world of fame that everyone can see.

ie. Picture a small town writ large. You have gossip. Now that gossip writ large. If you were smart enough you could make money off maintaining your good looks and experience vast amounts of pleasure, while ladies take pity on you and want to heal your broken heart.

life: who ever has the most fun wins

  • finally someone showed russell brand for the cunt he is. overrated

  • I don't think his issue is with the medical condition(s) it's the fact that rather than seek treatment they tend to sell the story to media. They use their illness to secure glossy magazine deals rather than search for an actual cure/treatment for their addiction/condition. & I find it extremely difficult to emphasise with an individual if they are splashed across the front of a mag citing depression whilst sitting in an expensive mansion and have obviously been paid for the article

  • He's totally mocking Russel Brand here hahaha

  • @j3suspi3 I was about to write that, I believe they are mates however, so maybe its a bit of friendly banter...

  • @j3suspi3 You're putting down Russell Brand? You mean a guy who's had great sex.... and looks great and is in the spotlight? Compared to Ricky? An ugly male...who has the same mate... only because she knows that he's a schmuck... and no other female would be with him without TMZ telling people that ricky has stinky feet? Why bash Russell? Because you're in a box. make money by being an interestering personality.... because an ugly Gervais is doing so? You must be ugly also.
  • @frickadele Yes, because the attractiveness of a person physical determines them as a person. Interesting proposition.

  • @j3suspi3 and russel brand probably laughs about this

  • I understand what he is saying, but someone's celebrity status does not make them any different from the average person with the same problems. reasons and stories may be different, but when it comes down to it, if you're depressed, you're depressed. if you're addict, you're addict.... but it's not quite as easy, to handle these problems, as it seems to come across in his comments.

  • He's gonna end up killing himself, imo. He's right about how ridiculous society is, and how stupid the general public is. It's going to drive him over the edge.

  • @Gafaton I think comedy keeps him sane.

  • @nothingnesswithouten It certainly keeps me sane...kind of. These things really annoy me, and Gervais has similar views, and mocks them, allowing grumpy bastards like me to accept this morbid modern attitude. Oh sorry I said I was sane didn't I. Yeah Gervais is a chubby funster.

  • I love how he can't keep a straight face for 5 seconds.

  • passive aggressive much lol

  • Hahaha! I'm pretty sure he's referring to Russell Brand and his old sex/heroine addictions etc. lol!

  • Depression is a mental illness. It affects blue collar workers and celebrities alike. The rest was funny though.

  • @RoboDouche that was his point. some people actually feel bad for a celebrity when they have depression, but no one cares about the single working class mother who has it. the problem being that people revere celebrities who are in fact the people who need reverence the least. and that isn't to say its ok for celebrities to have depression, just that their depression shouldn't be put on a pedestal.

  • @RoboDouche He wasn't being offensive towards victims of depression; he was chastising the people who care that overprivileged people are afflicted with it. Most people would love to have their problems.

  • @FilthCrow Why shouldn't I care if an "overprivileged" person has depression. I am as sympathetic to them as I would be to anyone else. As far as wanting to have their problems, if their problems consist of depressive illness and drug addictions, then no, I don't want their problems.

  • @RoboDouche You have a valid point. Thank you for pointing that out.

  • That was hilarious, and very true.

  • I love how they get 'exhausted' aswell

  • That man is so funny - celebrity is a hollow goal by itself, but if you are a successful actor then it's unavoidable.

Working class do get depressed but no one is too bothered -

  • "I took out all my money and bought a gun". After all the bashing about celebrities- " I like celebrities". Ricky is such a ham. I just wanna pour honey glaze all over him and lick him. haha

  • This man says the truth.

  • Haha...He is right about what he says though - I am pleased someone said that - I always thought the same, and thought like that since I was about 10 - why do people clap on shows like Jeremy Kyle regarding addictions? Why the fuck are you an alcoholic or addict in the first place!

  • I was never a heroin addict!

  • @BloggerMusicMan Woo Hoo!

  • WATCH OUT - THERES A THIEF ABOUT! > Ricky Gervais and The Great Brain Robbery

  • how can you not love a guy thats aware of his fortune and is humble. thank you ricky . im doin great so what right cud i really have to complain. thank you

  • A nice shot at russell brand there

  • I think he is stretching his comedic routine upon us. we r in trouble....

  • @ILoveGoodFellas =) very clever

  • I feel the same way, except about GoodFellas

  • good clips but WHY split 1 interview into tiny segments its so unnecessary.

  • hahahahahahahaha

  • Absolutely right! Celebs...

  • "I drink too much"...so stop then!

  • so blue-collar workers and working-class moms don't get depressions?

  • hes being sarcastic

  • @bertdockx Of course they do, but his point is that when they get depression they deal with it and get on with their lives, whereas celebrities really milk it, go into rehab and get all sorts of special treatment.

  • brilliant!

  • hes a funny fucker

  • @geordie212 no need to swear...

  • It's a sad fact that media in the United States such as television is intentionally malicious in it's design to at best abuse the watcher's credulity and at worst shape the watcher's behavior.

  • i cannot believe how bitter and naive some of you needy losers are willing to come across as. you're the ones watching both videos. how needy and unable to entertain yourselves are you to wanna hear him say different funny stuff for you each time?

  • i agree 100%

  • im sorry but i think hes very funny and also has a good point

  • He's only speaking the truth.

  • I wish there was something I could do... But I lost my fingers

  • Some of what he just said sounded a lot like one of Dom Irrera's old bits.

  • everything he says in this clip he pretty much said when he went on Jon Stewart

  • well spotted... he's a comedian. do you expect new material in everything he does?

  • Wouldn't hurt.

  • It really doesnt get bad until you start eating each other.

  • head like a fucking orange.... wait, never mind.

  • This bit is now preserved for all time... again.
