Anyone know who the banjo player is? He doesn't look like John Hartford and I thought it might be Mike Seeger, but he looks like a fill-in and probably is just another nobody. Bob
I love how Ms. Jackie rocks back and forth when Mr. Campbell starts playing the 12' string. What a fantastic song! The two are in history! May God Bless this!
This is much better than the album version. Jackie D and the 12-string -- and the echoes of "Blowin' in the Wind" in the guitar riff -- make this not just a fine song but a thrill to hear.
This socially conscious, good Samaritan rock: a brief and unique moment in Amer. history. Could such a time ever return? Or were they just empty dreams to begin with, without effective actions to match them? Inequity has only deepened. Perhaps they were both far-fetched and realistic. Either way, to see such messages hit the mass market was a rare and special phenomenon.
If I'm not mistaken it looks like Larry McNeely playing with Glen and Jackie. He's one heck of a musician on banjo and guitar and who knows what else.
Thank you so much for putting this song here. I learnt this song when I was in school, and every time after that whenever worry overtakes me, I sing this song to myself and it gives me so much strength. Now I have taught this song to my children as well.
glenn never made out he was a great song writer just listen to his great vocals and guitar work AFTER ALL HOW MANY SONGS DID THE KING OR SINATRA WRITE
Sinatra the most over rated singer of the 20th century and not a nice person by all accounts. Jackie , Glenn amd the King actually had talent and could all sing much better. imho.
Good song with a very good arrangement that borrowed heavily from Glen Campbell's own recorded duet with singer Bobbie Gentry. Campbell's vocal on this version was overmixed way up front, almost to the point that the multitalented pop-rock legend extraordinaire Jackie DeShannon was reduced to contributing a backing vocal.
Since Glen is not known as a composer, I was surprised to hear him say that he wrote this one. Very catchy, sung happily, effortlessly with perfect pitch and masterful 12-string guitar. What a natural, major talent. I really enjoyed this one.
Glen Campbell gets my vote as the most underrated artist of his era. Great talent.

@bobhedstrom That's Larry McNeely. He followed-up John Hartford, and believe me, when it was his turn to play, he was unbelievable.

John Hartford, Jackie DeShannon and Glen Campbell. That's some serious singing, songwriting and instrumental talent there on that one bench.

I'd forgotten all about this song. My grade 4 teacher made us sing it EVERY DAY. I guess she thought the message would sink in eventually.
