No one but Pete could smile so much and always seem so completely genuine. It's like he just radiates peace and happiness. He reminds me of Jesus had he lived to see ninety.
How gracious and generous of him to acknowledge the influence of The Byrd's version of his song. The man has a big heart and was, is and will always be considered a National, no sorry, an International Treasure....my thanks to the uploader of this clip...cheers from Greece.
I find it interesting (and cool) that he sings it like the Byrds did, as Dylan does 'All Along The Watchtower' the way Hendrix did. It's a rarity that a composer is so smitten with a cover version that they defer to it when performing their own creation ... the definitive homage.
pete lives in my town and knows my english teacher. he convinced him to speak to my class. i wanted to hate him for his politics, but after seeing him in person, how could i?
deaddoc, I assume you know my oblique reference to Galilean peasant was to Jesus. A commune type existence was practiced by his earliest followers recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. By myth, I can only assume you mean there was no such Jesus or he didn't teach and preach anything in the Gospels. Yet his existence is at least as well attested as Julius Ceasar, and no one EVER says Ceasar didn't exist. Correct me if I misunderstood.
Much older than that, Cold Chicago. Comes from the ancient faith of the Galilean peasant preacher. Seeger once said: "I still call myself a communist, because communism is no more what Russia made of it than Christianity is what the churches make of it." Your fascism will devour you while it devours your enemies CC
@ognywogny Completely agree with you about Christianity and communism, except that communism was practiced by ancient Judaic sects, and an upstart named Saul (read Paul) invented Christianity, not some peasant Galilean. That's pure myth. Christianity always meant to rule whereas, communism didn't. But forgive my late night ramblings, as we forgive those who ramble against us.
seeger comes out of the old commie kultur... guthrie, the weavers, and much of the new york left were the first folkies.. but..... don't tell anybody about this or we will immediately see the grad school seminars debating the now carefully forgotten origins of the american folk revival....

What a wonderful man. So tragically misunderstood during the McCarthy Era. Thank goodness he is now held in high esteem.
