This is ham radio. I also have CB radio setup that I use once in a while. The difference is that ham radio requires one to pass a test. There are 3 levels of licensing in the US alowing the use of different frequencies. CB operates just below the ham 10 meter band and doesn't require a licence. The FCC still has regulations for CB. Ham radio operators have many advantages over CB, one being the they can use a wide variety of frequncies of which propagate differently from one another. Lots of fun
