  • There is no debate that energy in this country needs regulation to prevent price gouging. I do not believe that cap and trade will make prices rise, if anything it will decrease the price for home owners, but for wasteful companies using excessive amounts of water and electricity it would not be a good solution. Anyway you slice it our current consumption needs curbed, not just because of climate change but because we are killing ourselves by pollution.

  • will they tax empty factories and businesses?

  • Mitch never saw a public asset he didn't want to sell to his buddies and finance at Goldman Sachs. (see toll road sale article in Mother Jones), also was a druggie At Princeton caught after a 5 month drug investigation pled to possession after influential well placed buddies vouched for his abilities to serve them. We get hosed whoever is in power Bayh sucked as bad as Mitch come on third party.

  • Hear Obama's own words.

"Under my plan in a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily sky rocket."

This will hurt Midwestern states way more than it will hurt Democratic states.

I know people who sometimes pay $400 a month for electricity in the summer. Obama want's that to skyrocket?!?!?!?!

Citizens in those states will suffer no matter political affiliation.

Obama's government is a money hungry leech on the American people.

It needs to be ripped off and stepped on.

  • In my state if you have a larger house or own a business and need critical medical machines which all require more electricity (kilowatt hours) we will now be charged at a higher rate than people who use less electricity. If that's not forced socialism I don't know what is.

  • I am opposed to cap and trade, but not for the reasons he states.

  • Dude, you can always be counted on to make a bunch of illiterate, inane leftist statements on any thread you haunt.

  • You may want to see this video on why cap and trade is the wrong way: watch?v=oKQ8GW6iblQ

  • Thanks for speaking out. But like the Republicans it's a little bit too late. Why are you speaking up now? Obama has been out of control over 100 days now he has been left alone in the candy story like a kid with endless pockets of cash eating everything is sight, its having an effect of the countries stomach the (American People) we are sick. Sick of Obama and his out of control spending and programs including the losses he purposes against our constitution. Obama the Wrong Change for America.

  • What planet do you live on? Obama is wildly popular in the US and abroad.

  • z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z...so was Mussolini, at one time.

  • Everyone liked Hitler too

  • @Nickk361 If you imagine Mitch having a Hitler mustache its quite scary since he already has his haircut.

  • If we do nothing, the costs would be even higher regardless.

  • Of course an energy tax would trickle down to the consumers These conglomerates wouldn't simply take a cut in profit growth they would take it out of the hides of their consumers Pain trickles down and wealth flows up The rich get richer at the expense of the middle class. CEO's are greedy and use their position for their own gain.

I know conflict theory is Marxist, heaven forbid anyone is with Marx on anything. Even though conflict theory is a pillar of sociology and political science theory.

  • Working for clean air and water is good. I enjoy breathing as I am sure you do. However overreacting like crazy fanatics (Al Gore) is not good. Clean energy will not come soon, in the meantime we cannot afford to cripple our economy and weaken the country by implementing these insane taxes for a system that will have little to no effect on temperature.

I have a series called Standing Firm where I discuss topics like this. If you would like to see more, click jdlaporte001 above and subscribe.

  • To the Goreists they care not, in fact they think that a crippled economy is worth the price for clean air.

  • LOL our comments got voted down, that means we're telling the truth, and everyone knows Obamanaics can't handle the truth.

  • Even envirementalists have questions about cap and trade saying that it gives too much to Wall Street and Big Coal and won't do much to cut emissions.

  • Taxes are being used as a political weapon to force private business into submission as a government run business. Americans are quite unprepared and naive'. You are being forced to face those socially and politically engineered contradictions that grow up unsuspected in every society even in Nazi Germany and the former USSR! The Great American Coup! Go ahead say it! Maybe then you will all finally believe what you see is happening. The truth! Will Americans stop the coup. I highly doubt it!

  • Great American coup my ass. Finally we have someone that is not under the thumb of big business that is willing to pass legislation they don't like. If we are in danger of becoming anything we are in danger of becoming a corporate fascism, a puppet government controlled by the CEO's of big business. If it takes "coup" to get big business's balls out of our country's mouth then so be it. I hope he reconstitutes the anti-trust regulation that has been destroyed over the last 50 years also.

  • Didn't you read my comment his cap and trade would be more favorable to big coal and Wall Street. And stop trying to invent a messiah cause he hardly fits your ideal description.

  • I don't see how it will get back to "big coal" except in money for clean coal research. As for Wall Street...you would have to farther explain why it would be unequally beneficial to Wall Street for me to even comment, because all you have is a claim with no supporting evidence so far.

No one said anything about a messiah that is some bs right wingers throw around anytime anyone says anything good about Obama and then they pretend it immediately invalidates the point. It doesn't.

  • The truth is that is the least corrupted individual that we have had occupying that office in the last couple decades and he has the balls to rattle the cage. The jury is still out on whether his policies work, but at least he has intellect and balls on his side.

The cap and trade is not meant to in itself have a dramatic impact. The idea is to use the money made through that program for R&D on technology that eventually will.

  • My info was from this video: "Cap and Trade won't Cut It" from the Real News Network (watch?v=0KArJSH9I_E).

  • The thing is that the crux of the argument against the cap and trade is the secondary speculative trading. If Obama holds firm to his promises about regulation of speculative trading, complex derivatives, short selling, and hedge funds, it would attenuate this effect.

  • He doesn't want to set a straight a carbon tax so he can appease the conservatives. If he did that would just give Republicans fodder to attack him for "tax and spend". Everyone is ok with the increase in tax on cigs and alcohol because it is a "sin tax" that hurts individuals, but how dare he tax corporations for their continued refusal to modernize. That is just outrageous.
