I looked at it a little closer and your angles look great. In the engineering world we love to use triangles to reinforce, and your land anchor had so many -- and in the right places -- it would be super strong versus the size. I know you said that you were a fabricator, but do you have any formal engineering training?
first of all buy a better welder , second you need a trailer to haul that thing around, i built one that is 30 lbs and is only 1 foot tall and 1 foot wide works great easy to remove.
LOL first of all ive been a welder, fabricator and mechanic for 25 years now and i know if a welder works and suits the jobs im using it for..second no trailer needed here i have a propper offroader, she carries it around on the front no probs,,no wanna be plastic covered light weights here, the ground anchor you built sounds cool, you got any pics etc?
@uksniper1 Yeah, I don't know what he is talking about, since the welds look like they have good penetration to me! I have been a fabricator and mechanic about a long as you, and your job looks good to me! Plus, I am now an engineer and I would trust this for a light-duty vehicle! I also like the way you reinforced the hole for the clevis. Yes, I could have mathematically designed one that would be better on paper, but would it work better in the real-world; probably not.
including designing an building my v8 full expo rangerover,of which i fabricated roof-rack,suspension mods, bumpers, exhaust system, engine mods etc, lighting, electrics,,everything was done by me,,no garages, dealers in any part of it...
cheers again mate,,take care,,and all the very best....wayne.
If you are a welder what amps where you running and what type of electrodes cause the welds look pretty cold and a bit of cold roll (on the plate of the anchor anyway). Looks good anyway.
Nice build - how did it perform? What vehicle & winch is it for? I'm building 1 at the moment for a LR 110 so I thot better go 4 a more heavy duty design & for overland trips I've made the shovel detatchable so it can be stored flat. Its mostly 2" x 1" box so quite heavy - prob dream of the light weight option after a few pay & play days. Nice 1.
Hi,cheers mate,i built it for my very modded rangerover 3.9 v8(see my other vids to see her),the winch is 13,000 lb's, the anchor works very well, and my rangie is very kitted out so weighs quite a bit,,ive also made a very heavy duty one now too,as we are doing a lot of very deep mud here in Scotland at the mo(been loads of glaes and rain),and the trucks can sink in a couple of feet!!..we should have the snow soon too,so will give them a good test in that too,,good luck with..
hi mate, sorry its took so long to put up the measurements, but weve been very busy,,ok here ya go,,,main boom is 1 meter long..boom to shovel is 16 inches,,,shovel length is 16 inches,,,shovel width is 10 inches,,,main brace arm is 18 inches,,box section can either be 40x40 or 20x20 mm...hope this helps ya out mate all the best wayne.

3 years fabricating/welding high pressure gas/air tanks,
1 year at walford collage for agricultural machinery,
