this was mine andmy best friends favourite song back about 15years ago. and i havent seen her for about 15years and i miss her so much. i would luv to c her again.
And me too, Wao.......as a Latino migrant coming to Australia in the early 80's it makes me so proud to live and belong in this beautiful country....what a beautiful song and good memories from my early 2o's years!
As a native Californian (LA) ,I came to Sydney when I was eleven in 1981 and I grew up on Aussie music like this and if you think Ricks version is better that’s great, but I love all Aussie music and the fact is to each his own, and regardless Whether Ross is self absorbed and a self confessed narcissist ..... Who cares this is gold!!!! Enjoy it man..
@johnied8509 We teach our girls to get breast implants and "show us yer tits", What else do we teach them?. Not a hell of a lot. We give them no self esteem and they think they are "lucky" if some wandering "Dickhead" proposes to them!. What kind of a life is that for ANY Human being...... Fucked if I know mate. A life a Breeding, Servitude and Fighting (over their rights, which they would never claim in a million years).
Males don't have a "state of the heart". They only have "full balls" and run around like idiots trying to stick their cocks into anything that moves. Any woman, that falls for this "shit" deserves to be taken advantage of. Males "breed" then fuck off and leave someone else to take care of their offspring...often in poverty, while they live it up. Caring about no one but themselves.
@aussiebluemax I don't think it's your fault mate. We teach our Women to behave like Leeches. Women in Australia wouldn't know how to STAND on their own two feet if their lives depended on it. (Example 80% of Minimum wage earners in Australia, are FEMALE). That means, they are waiting for some BLOKE to support them and if NOT they live off Welfare. This song pisses me off for that very reason, it all a load of BULLSHIT.
A nice love song. Pity the majority of males treat women like shit. Impregnate them and piss off or go and fuck the baby sitter or go and fuck the little boy down the road. A nice song in a conceptual stage, but women are smarter and know much better, than to fall for this clap trap.

It isn't hard to see why the Rick Springfield version made it and this one did not. This is God awful. 4 minutes to sing a 2.5 minute song. Shoot me now :O Thank you Rick!!
This song was hot when we first married.Very fond memories of it and others in 1980 28th Wedding anniversary today for me. Gee you don't even get that sentence for murder LOL. Sorry darl, still love you with all my heart. That's the state of my heart.
I remember as a teenager going to a local concert in the late 70s to see a really good up and coming band...but shock horrors, that band hadn't turned up and Mondo Rock did the gig instead. The small audience sat on the floor talking as the band played song after song...in the end Ross Wilson got annoyed and gave us a lecture about being ungrateful wretches and asked us to get up and dance...we didn't. I cringe a bit thinking how mean we were but the band we missed out on was ACDC.
Well up and coming as in International recognition..yes they had been playing around Australia for ages and had some great hits by that stage. I suppose like most kids I hadn't really thought of them as anything special until they made the big time lol.
Great band, great song....I remember going to see these guys live regularly. They all were first class musicians over and above being popular at the time. Thanks for the post.
I agree nzoz1980. Chad Morgan hails from my neck of the woods. He is cool and has his fans, and a unique entertainment style . I couldn't resist taking the piss out of that turkey aga080. Gobble Gobble. Oh hell I've taken the piss out of aga080 again. More LOL. I wonder if aga080 can also eat an apple through a tennis racket. Oh bugger I've done it again.More piss out of poor old aga080. Nothing like a nice couple of reds to get me going. Cheers nzoz1980 love your uploads.
Mondo Rock produced the most amazing songs. This brings back so many memories from my early years (despite being born in Oz in '77 and now living in the UK!) Just the whole look of the set is something you will only see in the Great Southern Land. Thanks Nzoz once again for another terrific download. Regards Andrew. A-plus.
Wow"""" what a band ??????? ross wilson you are a legend of aussie rock please come back and play the bars ... you write songs that have changed the face of music , your voice ,your lyrics it feels like your born again its so cool... Melbourne misses you...
Just learned about this band (I was 5 years old in 1980). I've always loved this song by Rick Springfield. Had no idea it was released by anyone else. It looks like there's an Australian connection.
Mondo rock...what more can I say. This is the state of my heart lol. Anywayz, what planet do we all come from again. dont remind me...what was that ? Uranus !!! lol
I still lean to towards the belief that if Mondo Rock's version was the international hit, it would have been favoured over Rick's version - no offense to Rick nor Rick's fans. Of course, us Aussies are proud of Rick. We've been aware of his work since his days with Zoot. He is a great guitarist, singer, songwriter, etc. However... for an MOR kinda-song - Mondo Rock's version works very well.
hey panicathebristo you have no taste and a very offensive character in my opinion Panic at the cisco is shit and dont insult Rick like that dont like his music fine! but dont offend what has Rick ever done to you panicathebrisco and yes i offended you precious panic at the cisco or should i say disco
Sorry, but I like Rick Springfield`s version of this song more. His voice sounds much better. But it`s matter of taste....Fortunately I`m not from USA or Australia or U.K.....
panicatthebristo: So you're a panic at the disco fan? Let's see where they are in 20 years. Flipping burgers with Ross I'd bet. And if you really think Ross, Rick or any celebrities read these comments, you're delusional and a bigger asshole than I ever imagined being.
"I'm not Aussie.. I'm English. But thank you for thinking I am Aussie - that's a compliment." Clearly, Beastbox, unlike you, I'm proud of my nationality. I guess if I were bested in the Revolution, I'd be ashamed to be English too.
"Aussies have better musicial taste than Americans!" LOL!!! Are you Aussie's jealous that Rick broke out of your British prison colony and found success in the US?!? Just want you to know what is truly "quite offensive" you prissy biatch.
Well jc3tv, if you're wanting this comment section to be headin towards an anti-American direction; you're going the right way about it. British prison colony? Is that supposed to be insulting?
"British prison colony? Is that supposed to be insulting?" Read the response again and figure it out brain surgeon. As far as anti-American, I could give a fuck. I'm done with this obscure little pimple in musical history. Thanks for posting the video 'cause God knows I'd never have found it otherwise. BTW, nzoz, are you Ross? If not, you're nothing but a copyright infringing, ignorant piece of shit. Thanks for stealing Mondo's music and posting it as your own dirtbag!
"lol, settle pettle." nzoz: Thank god you can laugh this off...clearly, you're the only one intelligent enough to get the sarcasm. I respect that. Must feel good to have the UN coming to your defense though. Cheers
"jc3tv, you're not exactly justifying your point of copyright when saving Rick Springfield's work into your favourites. Kinda hypocritical of you." Point well taken. I've removed them and flagged them (and Mondo) for copyright violation. Will you do the same with your favorites? If not, you're a hypocrite as well.
So another Fat arrogent american who cant aprecciate any 1 else but him/her and thier fat greedy pig of a country america. I dont even no why australia and britan are allies with u. Your destroying the world. All the wars youve been in AND MADE THINGS WORSE!!.
You should open your pin dick of a brain if u even have 1 and see whats out thier AUSTRALIA, BRITAN, NEW ZEALAND ROCK!!!
Got no time for such lily-livered commentary coming from someone who just wants to be (and as you would describe yourself, jc3tv) an arrogant little git.
Who cares about the way people spell things on here, we're all not perfect you know, and besides it's all informality and fun on here, as long as it's in POSITIVE rectitude, sir!
Alright, here's how it goes - I've looked back over this forum and all you've done is ruin it by being critical of other people, be it rock stars or people here on YouTube, therefore causing arguments.
If you are reading this right now, behave and quit running your fat trap unless you've got something decent to say and/or just listen and enjoy the music.
Also, measuring a musicians talent on success is stupid, because we all know that there are a lot of untalented monkeys out there making millions whilst a lot of geniunely talented people never get their break because they look like 'CREEPS'. Ross Wilson lost interest in America - he obviously didn't have the drive that Rick had. Rick's deserving in that respect, but not more talented.
You like to label people "stupid" and "ignorant" while your entire defense of this nobody is ignorant. Of course success isn't the only measure of talent but I'll hold up Rick's 17 top 40 hits (including a #1 Grammy winner) against your boy Ross' obscure Australian "career".
You further display your ignorance in references to a "few cover songs" being among Rick's hits. Aside from this song and "I've Done Everything", Rick wrote his own hits.
Although Rick disappeared after the mid-80s (mainly due to a near fatal ATV accident) he returned in 2004 with one of the strongest CDs of his career, "Shock Denial Anger Acceptance". He's currently on a very successful US tour...oh yes, but getting thousands of people to come listen to your music isn't a measure of talent. What McDonalds can I visit to meet Ross and hear him sing to me, "Would you like fries with that?"
I'm an a random rant here but I'll give Rick credit for a few things. He is better looking than Ross, he is probably a better guitarist because he was a 'GREAT' guitarist when he was in Zoot and he most probably is a better singer than Ross...
as far as I'm concerned, both Mondo Ross and Rick Springsteen (spelling intended) went to complete shit by the mid-80s. However, between 1969 to 1982, Ross was a genuine talent and quite innovative (Daddy Cool, anybody?)... Rick (Zoot, Speak To The Sky, Jessie's Girl, few cover songs) didn't have the inventiveness that Ross possessed. It takes complete utter ignorance to say Rick is more talented than Ross. Only a person who has not heard much of Ross would say that.
Let's agree to disagree...it's just a good song. Period. Regardless of what version you prefer, Rick or Ross, you're still listening to (esentially) the same track...right? :0) *I say essentially because Rick went back with Eric McCusker and a fella named Tim Pierce and wrote a few new guitar parts and a bridge for "State" and that seems to be the version that is most often played on radio.* But if it comes down to quality music...maybe there should be a duet. :0)
Aside from up the tempo, I agree that Rick didn't do much to change this song but he succeeds in that: He's a better singer; he's a better overall musician and talent; he's achieved way more success than Mondo who?!? Good single but it took hunting it down on youtube for me to hear it. Rick's version is popular enough to be easily accessible on iTunes.
Rick is a better overall musician than Ross Wilson? I doubt you've listened to anything else by Ross Wilson besides this track... I'm not even a fan of either musician, but judging from the overall careers of both Aussie musicians, Ross wins as far as flexibility and songwriting is concerned. Just keep in mind, Rick needed to cover versions to keep himself on the charts; Ross certainly didn't need to. Success and popularity is not an indicator is to how talented a person is...
Given the choice...between this version or Rick's take on it...I'm gonna have to go with Rick. Don't get me wrong, Mondo Rock's version is DEFINITELY more romantic, but...it's too slow for me.
Just for the record ,it's not Rick Springfield's song he just stole it,recorded it and made a quick buck from the result, also at the time this song was in the charts Rick baby was playing in a showband named ,of all things,Wickety Wak who also made money from playing other peoples songs.
Not that we're anti-Rick here. Rick has written some very good songs and made a great contribution to Australian rock (in the early 70's) with the Zoot. However, it would have been nice if Rick didn't make his version sound like a song from some cheesy 80's teen-flick.
Rick Springfield in Wickety Wak?????? You mean the cheesy Queensland novalty band that played pubs and RSL clubs?? Rick was well and truly based in the US and quite successful by the early 80's. Dunno where you got that from.
I didn't even know who Wickety Wak were - I assumed they were some big time bar band playing covers and sounding like Foreigner or Journey. Let me guess; did all the members of Queensland's Wickety Wak have beards?
@nzoz1980 And to answer my own question 'yes, yes, yes'... and a lot of corny-cheesy jokes and bad impersonations of real pop stars... what a bunch of hacks... and they're still going ...
@Rasprodz Oh,God,Wickety Wak? I hadn't thought about them in 20 yrs.I was roped into seeing them at Twin Towns in 1985.They were HORRIBLE! Earsplittingly loud, and really filthy, corny jokes. They used to be on Jackie Mc Donald's kid show.God,they were lame.
@blackwhimsy I just checked them out on youtube! What a fucking embarrasment! Did people realy take to that shit? Did these guys really make people laugh??? I know they're for the thick crowd, but come on....
maybe it was the state he was in that makes him so creepy! but seriously, what does looks have to do with the music. maybe looks matters to americans, but for most of the world, it's the talent that counts and this version shits all over Rick's version. Rick's sounds like a David Hasslehoff b-side.
I know. I think debating which version is better is tricky and quite pointless. You will be faced with certain opposing tastes. When I heard Rick's version, I was disappointed because, to me, and this is only just my opinion, I felt he sucked the life out of the song. I'm not saying Mondo Rock is better than Rick or vica versa, but for a commercial AOR song, I can listen to this.
No, I've listened to both and Mondo's is far better, has a better production and a genuine feel. Rick's version is just not convincing. I'm no fan of Mondo Rock and its great that an ex-Aussie patriot (Rick Springfield) made it a hit in the states, but Rick did the song no favours.
If you really like this type of music then move to North West Tasmania where this is all we get on local radio. It's considered recent hits!

a GREAT POP SONG...MONDO ROCK ARE GREAT!
Dollarzzz 3 years ago 2
I remember as a teenager going to a local concert in the late 70s to see a really good up and coming band...but shock horrors, that band hadn't turned up and Mondo Rock did the gig instead. The small audience sat on the floor talking as the band played song after song...in the end Ross Wilson got annoyed and gave us a lecture about being ungrateful wretches and asked us to get up and dance...we didn't. I cringe a bit thinking how mean we were but the band we missed out on was ACDC.
jaggity 3 years ago
ha ha, fair enough. That's a tough story to read, but I suppose it's understandable.
But how were AC/DC up and coming... weren't they five years into their career by that stage?
nzoz1980 3 years ago
Well up and coming as in International recognition..yes they had been playing around Australia for ages and had some great hits by that stage. I suppose like most kids I hadn't really thought of them as anything special until they made the big time lol.

These guys didn't make a bad song. Yet another great band from the best part of the planet.Cheers nzoz1980 for this post and your many other posts.

Great band, great song....I remember going to see these guys live regularly. They all were first class musicians over and above being popular at the time. Thanks for the post.

Just learned about this band (I was 5 years old in 1980). I've always loved this song by Rick Springfield. Had no idea it was released by anyone else. It looks like there's an Australian connection.

Springfield and Wilson are from the generation of Australian performers that came out of the late-60's Aussie music scene.

Oh well. Will just have to enjoy the rest of your extensive library then. Thanks anyway for the reply. :)
pgbrown 4 years ago
At the end of the day, it's just a song...
And no, I am not a Mondo Rock fan.

panicatthebristo: So you're a panic at the disco fan?

Just want you to know what is truly "quite offensive" you prissy biatch.
jc3tv 4 years ago
Well jc3tv, if you're wanting this comment section to be headin towards an anti-American direction; you're going the right way about it. British prison colony? Is that supposed to be insulting?
nzoz1980 4 years ago
"British prison colony? Is that supposed to be insulting?" Read the response again and figure it out brain surgeon. As far as anti-American, I could give a fuck. I'm done with this obscure little pimple in musical history. Thanks for posting the video 'cause God knows I'd never have found it otherwise. BTW, nzoz, are you Ross? If not, you're nothing but a copyright infringing, ignorant piece of shit. Thanks for stealing Mondo's music and posting it as your own dirtbag!

jc3tv, you're not exactly justifying your point of copyright when saving Rick Springfield's work into your favourites. Kinda hypocritical of you.

Alright, here's how it goes - I've looked back over this forum and all you've done is ruin it by being critical of other people, be it rock stars or people here on YouTube, therefore causing arguments.
If you are reading this right now, behave and quit running your fat trap unless you've got something decent to say and/or just listen and enjoy the music.
datoobster75 4 years ago
Good on you, mate. I agree 100%. Besides, Mondo Rock are such an amazing group.
AustralianGuyyy 4 years ago
Bravo brother - well said! I'm probably guilty of that very thing at times but theres no place for it, that's definately true...
OnlyOneWoman 3 years ago
Also, measuring a musicians talent on success is stupid, because we all know that there are a lot of untalented monkeys out there making millions whilst a lot of geniunely talented people never get their break because they look like 'CREEPS'. Ross Wilson lost interest in America - he obviously didn't have the drive that Rick had. Rick's deserving in that respect, but not more talented.
nzoz1980 4 years ago
You like to label people "stupid" and "ignorant" while your entire defense of this nobody is ignorant. Of course success isn't the only measure of talent but I'll hold up Rick's 17 top 40 hits (including a #1 Grammy winner) against your boy Ross' obscure Australian "career".
jc3tv 4 years ago
You further display your ignorance in references to a "few cover songs" being among Rick's hits. Aside from this song and "I've Done Everything", Rick wrote his own hits.
jc3tv 4 years ago
Although Rick disappeared after the mid-80s (mainly due to a near fatal ATV accident) he returned in 2004 with one of the strongest CDs of his career, "Shock Denial Anger Acceptance". He's currently on a very successful US tour...oh yes, but getting thousands of people to come listen to your music isn't a measure of talent. What McDonalds can I visit to meet Ross and hear him sing to me, "Would you like fries with that?"
jc3tv 4 years ago
lol, I don't even care about either musician - it's you that's the obvious fan and you that seems to be coming to Rick's defense.
nzoz1980 4 years ago
I'm an a random rant here but I'll give Rick credit for a few things. He is better looking than Ross, he is probably a better guitarist because he was a 'GREAT' guitarist when he was in Zoot and he most probably is a better singer than Ross...
nzoz1980 4 years ago
as far as I'm concerned, both Mondo Ross and Rick Springsteen (spelling intended) went to complete shit by the mid-80s. Only a person who has not heard much of Ross would say that.
nzoz1980 4 years ago
Let's agree to disagree...it's just a good song. Period. Regardless of what version you prefer, Rick or Ross, you're still listening to (esentially) the same track...right? :0) *I say essentially because Rick went back with Eric McCusker and a fella named Tim Pierce and wrote a few new guitar parts and a bridge for "State" and that seems to be the version that is most often played on radio.* But if it comes down to quality music...maybe there should be a duet. :0)
ABCSuperSoaper 4 years ago
Aside from up the tempo, I agree that Rick didn't do much to change this song but he succeeds in that: He's a better singer; he's a better overall musician and talent; he's achieved way more success than Mondo who?!? Good single but it took hunting it down on youtube for me to hear it. Rick's version is popular enough to be easily accessible on iTunes.
jc3tv 4 years ago
Rick is a better overall musician than Ross Wilson? I doubt you've listened to anything else by Ross Wilson besides this track... I'm not even a fan of either musician, but judging from the overall careers of both Aussie musicians, Ross wins as far as flexibility and songwriting is concerned. Just keep in mind, Rick needed to cover versions to keep himself on the charts; Ross certainly didn't need to. Success and popularity is not an indicator is to how talented a person is...
nzoz1980 4 years ago
Had the 45 of this song on high rotation on the old veneer-covered "Thorn" hi-fi. Classic track very much the sound of it's time.
damo3805 4 years ago
Given the choice...between this version or Rick's take on it...I'm gonna have to go with Rick. Don't get me wrong, Mondo Rock's version is DEFINITELY more romantic, but...it's too slow for me.
ABCSuperSoaper 4 years ago
That's a fair comment... :)

hunkydaboyz 4 years ago 2
Just for the record ,it's not Rick Springfield's song he just stole it,recorded it and made a quick buck from the result, also at the time this song was in the charts Rick baby was playing in a showband named ,of all things,Wickety Wak who also made money from playing other peoples songs.
stagebat 4 years ago
Not that we're anti-Rick here. Rick has written some very good songs and made a great contribution to Australian rock (in the early 70's) with the Zoot. However, it would have been nice if Rick didn't make his version sound like a song from some cheesy 80's teen-flick.
nzoz1980 4 years ago
Rick Springfield in Wickety Wak?????? You mean the cheesy Queensland novalty band that played pubs and RSL clubs?? Rick was well and truly based in the US and quite successful by the early 80's. Dunno where you got that from.
Rasprodz 4 years ago
I didn't even know who Wickety Wak were - I assumed they were some big time bar band playing covers and sounding like Foreigner or Journey. Let me guess; did all the members of Queensland's Wickety Wak have beards?
nzoz1980 4 years ago
@nzoz1980 And to answer my own question 'yes, yes, yes'... and a lot of corny-cheesy jokes and bad impersonations of real pop stars... what a bunch of hacks... and they're still going ...
nzoz1980 1 year ago
@Rasprodz Oh,God,Wickety Wak? I hadn't thought about them in 20 yrs.I was roped into seeing them at Twin Towns in 1985.They were HORRIBLE! Earsplittingly loud, and really filthy, corny jokes. They used to be on Jackie Mc Donald's kid show.God,they were lame.

Not a great song. Rick's is better - ths guy is creepy.
hollyh68 4 years ago
I'm almost tempted to delete your comment.
nzoz1981 4 years ago 3
maybe it was the state he was in that makes him so creepy! but seriously, what does looks have to do with the music. maybe looks matters to americans, but for most of the world, it's the talent that counts and this version shits all over Rick's version. Rick's sounds like a David Hasslehoff b-side.
LegendFromLeeds 4 years ago
I really like both versions, but must say that there is always some magic in a less well known original version of famous hits.

MrsMusic1970 5 years ago 2
I know. I think debating which version is better is tricky and quite pointless. You will be faced with certain opposing tastes. When I heard Rick's version, I was disappointed because, to me, and this is only just my opinion, I felt he sucked the life out of the song. I'm not saying Mondo Rock is better than Rick or vica versa, but for a commercial AOR song, I can listen to this.
nzoz1980 5 years ago
Ricks Springfields version is so much better.
ZILCH7 5 years ago
No, I've listened to both and Mondo's is far better, has a better production and a genuine feel. Rick's version is just not convincing. I'm no fan of Mondo Rock and its great that an ex-Aussie patriot (Rick Springfield) made it a hit in the states, but Rick did the song no favours.
nzoz1980 5 years ago
