@SirKingOfLols i have briefly tried both. i preferred the 101 because it was faster. i couldn't find a full sized USB slot on 70 but there is 1 or 2 (i don't remember) on 101. there is a camera on the the front and back. but one thing about 70 is that the touch screen to slide the screen it is easier. hope it helped
It is OK for budget Tablet, but won't suggest over iPad. I felt iPad screen wasn't right for watching movies due to screen aspect ratio. So, bought Archos, but screen quality in this somewhat leaves you hungry for more after you see the video quality from iPad. Yes, I know that iPad is expensive and it's obvious to have good quality. I'm just saying that if you are thinking to use solely for movies like I did, you might be bit disappointed. So, I suggest to invest bit more if you can.
@THEjonasS11 Absolutely. I just bought because all work meeting is on Skype. But I have google map, angry birds, office, alarm clock and you can snooze only with a lamp :) , layar, compass and working as bike computer, diary,.. :)

@Stikg yes its worth it i use it every day for hourssss. The price if it is going down now too since the archos 101 c9 is coming out but thats going to be $399. I got my regular 101 for $259 plus tax. Tablets arent worth more than $300 to me. Even ones with better viewing angles and more ram

i liked that you mentioned the French co. I did not know that about archos and knowing that's its french (like Petzl, the best headlamp brand), is a huge incentive helping me determining with the possibility of getting a tablet. I have many many gigabytes of photos and data to store on it so possibly one with larger storage capacity would be possibly more appropriate.

I had the archos 101 for 3 months, i just have to say that purchasing this tablet was my worst mistake of 2011. Extremely slow response, device freezes, after watching youtube the device crashes, high glossy screen it doesn't allow to see videos comfortable ( the viewing angle is to narrow ) , grid lines in screen , the camera is the worse man have ever made ... etc ..etc
There are more issues but the text allowed here is limited. Don't purchase Archos if you do, you'll regret it.

@luchoe2 the operating system in the 101 has been upgraded. No more lag unless u temporarily run out ram. Its an easy fix. And yes the camera still sucks even after the current update. Even with the limited viewing angles it is well worth the price now ($259)
@zeretmusicent with 256 MB RAM you will always be running out of memory, that memory size is completely inadequate for an android device even more for a tablet. Is like having an Intel I7 processor with 1 Gb of RAM running windows 7. That tablet has flawed desing, there is no hope with it.

This is perfect for the average consumer. The only down falls i see with this tablet are 1) low ram 2) limited viewing angles 3) no out the box google market place.
Here is what i found 1) low ram: means closing unused apps running in the background every so often 2) limited viewing angles: means using the kick stand to adjust it perfectly. 3) no out the box google market place: means downloading a Gapps installer to get the market place or use the one that comes with the device. To avoid these three things people need to get a 450 dollar device. instead of this 259 dollar one.
I would have to say that from personal experience, from personally owning one, I can say that the Archos 101 has multiple issues from video playback, to calibration, to locking up and not coming back on, even when reset. Not only that, but it only does and will only support Android 2.2. I had to personally deal with the tech department with Archos when I send it in to be fixed, and there is no real customer service, so I decided to trade in for Acer Icondia Tab A500.

I have an Archos 5, its crap! Constantly crashes and have a stuck pixel in the center of the screen. Warranty is worthless, customer service will not help me. Only had unit for 2 months and warranty is worthless!!!
@PunchRockGroin It is indeed noticeable. The A7 outperforms just about every tablet on the market but has some problems of its own.Battery life, no multi-touch, some issues with reading external storage and a large footprint for a 7inch tab. Despite all of those issues, I really like the Elocity because it is a beast. No other tab can perform as well with as little tweaking except the Galaxy Tab. The Elocity is faster in every regard but has an inferior screen and build. Hence the price diff...

Hi I was wondering how the viewing angles on this compared to the Viewsonic G tablet. You mentioned that the screen might be from the same source so are the viewing angles the same pretty much?

@IwesprayitI you can buy faux-leather cases direct from Archos as well, but it would probably be smarter to go with a neoprene netbook sleeve, for protective purposes.
@LazycouchTV In many ways it does. One thing is certain, 2011 will be the year of the Android tab. Apple was first to market so that helped them. They will not have that luxury next year.

@gregorydotson The ipad did accomplish one good thing, a market for tablets! Otherwise, if I am going to spend upwards of $500 for mobile computing experience, I'll get a computer! I really think that says it all.
awesome review!!! I love my 70...but one problem i keep running into is the bottom right and left keys on the keyboard dont respond to well...the numbers key and the Go key..do you have this same issue??? other than that, for the money i find you just can't go wrong with this unit...hope they do move up the Ram to 512 or higher on there next models!!!
@NellySon021 I agree, as you know, with everything you stated. As for screen sensitivity, I find that when things aren't responding a screen calibration helps a lot. Ive been able to stomach minor gripes like these as the Archos line is definitely the best value available. it doesn't excuse the issue but its certainly makes it palatable. If the problem persists you may want to RMA it but I think this may be a general issue with the screen. Thanks for watching!
@gfpfan Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching. Archos gets these in stock around once a week. As for major retailers, they are second in line so spotty inventory would be an understatement for online retailers like, amazon, tigerdirect and the various other companies that do carry Archos products.
You really shouldn't use task managers with Android. Just messes it up worse. Mostly the lag might be due to low ram since 256MB is pretty low for this kinda device. Surprised they still bother to put that little in. Android 2.2 should help a lot with the lagging tho. Would be cool to see a follow up review :)
@esaedvik More like you shouldn't have to but some apps are stubborn and enjoy running in the background no matter what. I'm not saying you need one but Archos did put their own on the device. As for lag, 256mb plays a role but I think it's more about optimizing the build of android for the device rather than a lack of ram (for example the ipad). One of the reasons the current flash plugin doesn't play well with 2.2 on the Archos tabs. it needs to be optimized. Thanks for watching!

I would mostly use it for work (invoices, etc.) and to stay on top of things when I leave the country, which is only for 10 days at a time.

Just read a Tear down review on these and they use Lipo battery's!!!
Make sure you never let these go low on power or the battery can explode into a nasty fire ball.
I've seen some nasty stuff from model air craft which use Lipo...

Hi I was wondering how the viewing angles on this compared to the Viewsonic G tablet. You mentioned that the screen might be from the same source so are the viewing angles the same pretty much?

@oscarfrancois2 Viewing angles are bad on both. i cant say for sure that they are identical but it would make sense. i find less issue with the archos though because of the kick stand. thanks for watching!

@IwesprayitI Ive yet to find anything other than netbook neoprene sleeves meant for 10inch screens. Those seem to work for now.

@IwesprayitI you can buy faux-leather cases direct from Archos as well, but it would probably be smarter to go with a neoprene netbook sleeve, for protective purposes.

Most people that get them install the google market place. The chap that made the video does a How To and its very easy.

@LazycouchTV In many ways it does. One thing is certain, 2011 will be the year of the Android tab. Apple was first to market so that helped them. They will not have that luxury next year.

i hate the ipad for its lack of an open enviroment, no expandable memory and am so glad that someone finaly had the gratest idea in tablet histery the FULL SIZED USB PORT!!!!!!!!! thiss is nice for if you have a usb 3g or 4g network adapter and not a mifi!!!!!!!!!!!1 i want one so bad!!! haha

@gregorydotson The ipad did accomplish one good thing, a market for tablets! Otherwise, if I am going to spend upwards of $500 for mobile computing experience, I'll get a computer! I really think that says it all.

awesome review!!! I love my 70...but one problem i keep running into is the bottom right and left keys on the keyboard dont respond to well...the numbers key and the Go key..do you have this same issue??? other than that, for the money i find you just can't go wrong with this unit...hope they do move up the Ram to 512 or higher on there next models!!!

@NellySon021 I agree, as you know, with everything you stated. As for screen sensitivity, I find that when things aren't responding a screen calibration helps a lot. Ive been able to stomach minor gripes like these as the Archos line is definitely the best value available. it doesn't excuse the issue but its certainly makes it palatable. If the problem persists you may want to RMA it but I think this may be a general issue with the screen. Thanks for watching!

As for major retailers, they are second in line so spotty inventory would be an understatement for online retailers like, amazon, tigerdirect and the various other companies that do carry Archos products.

You really shouldn't use task managers with Android. Just messes it up worse. Mostly the lag might be due to low ram since 256MB is pretty low for this kinda device. Surprised they still bother to put that little in. Android 2.2 should help a lot with the lagging tho. Would be cool to see a follow up review :)

@esaedvik More like you shouldn't have to but some apps are stubborn and enjoy running in the background no matter what. I'm not saying you need one but Archos did put their own on the device. As for lag, 256mb plays a role but I think it's more about optimizing the build of android for the device rather than a lack of ram (for example the ipad). One of the reasons the current flash plugin doesn't play well with 2.2 on the Archos tabs. it needs to be optimized. Thanks for watching!

just got my 101 from pc richard today. installed froyo and its freakin fast. plays mkv videos too ;)
for anyone waiting till dec 17th to get it... go to pc richard and son to pick it up. many stores will get it shipped tomorrow. i got mine today from a store that only had 3 shipped and 40 were on preorder. so im guessing they had 43 and the 3 that werent ordered i was lucky to get one of them
